Worth every penny for the visuals alone, it's truly what you'd call next gen. Gameplay is so responsive, especially on performance mode.

Patience and perseverance is needed. You will die, a lot. You will end up playing the same sections over and over until you finally learn all the enemy locations and attack patterns.

Unlike later Soulsborne games there aren't bonfires (checkpoints) throughout the level until you beat that levels boss so that can be a big turn off for some players.

Honestly early doors it's much easier than Bloodborne if you played that? The higher fps also helps a great deal in these games for reactions. It's so responsive.

Do you think?

Personally find this more difficult, but that may be an artificial difficulty due to no checkpoints so each death feels worse.

Also it doesn't help that I kept pressing square to attack. I probably shouldn't play Spiderman before I play this.

I think so anyway. Took me ages to kill that dog creature at the start of Bloodborne, where as I've glided through this so far. Famous last words

The Dragon torched me last night and I turned it off. Do you have to bait to breath fire twice? It killed me mid way across the bridge when it only did it once.

Though there’s no checkpoints you can unlock doors etc for shortcuts throughout the level can’t you?
Yes, but so far they're not like Souls. The shortcut i opened last night requires you to fight your way upstairs against multiple enemies with flaming swords. Theyre not particularly difficult to kill but I can see them overwhelming you if you're not careful.

Yep. People who say they can't tell the difference and fps doesn't matter should play 5mins of Bloodbourne then try this.

The difference is absolutely huge.
Absolutely man, night and day. The lighting is what really caught me off guard at the beginning also, was really blown away.

Check out the tessellation on the bricks all over the walls (makes them actually look like bricks sticking out, to all sorts of different depths). It's overall a thing of beauty, real next gen stuff

Stunning

Notice the little water puddles you step through look so good also. They've nailed everything you can nail in a visual remake.

I don’t know how long I’ll be able to last with this. I really enjoy the game but having to start back at the beginning when you die is so annoying! Perhaps is something I’ll just become accustomed to as i progress through the game

Also all the items available to buy seem pretty average at the moment - I take it this improves? I had about 10,000 souls and felt like I didn’t need to buy anything.

Have you upgraded weapons and levelled up your character with those souls?

Do you want me to come round and teach you how to play it properly?

Got absolutely ganked by the Knight boss.

I feel like I'm doing the bridge run wrong though, but going through the tunnel below it leads to a pack of dogs that absolutely shred you.

Played Spider-man and was impressed by the visuals. Played this and now I’m blown away. This is next gen, and shame that a lot of people might find it a bit hard to get into as a game or choose not to experience it at all.

Buying items from the shops is rarely worth it to be honest. Arrows the main thing, some healing items if you're low. Most souls you should spend leveling up, or upgrading the weapons you like using.

Just got annihilated buy some spider boss.

Also I still have my lead demon soul from Phalanx - do you just use this for souls or is there another use for it?

This is mint. Beat the armoured spider and tower knight this afternoon. So that's 1-1, 1-2 and 2-1 completed.

Can't believe I've been playing over 6 and a half hours already. Time flies on this.

Never really played anything other than melee before on Souls but this soul arrow is great fun. The pre order reaper sycthe is quite tasty too but it's quickly becoming surplus to requirements.

The section running across the bridge avoiding dragon fire is awesome btw. Sweaty palms on that as I tried to grab the loot and run.

Very tempted to kill this dude with the gold sword and shield. I assume you get his weapons if you do?

So I was really struggling getting into this. I picked the Knight class to try something new but i hated how slow I moved. I kept getting rekked by Tower Knight so last night I decided to start a new save as a Magician.

I've never used magic in a Souls game but I do like it. Also feels a lot nicer to play with a character that doesn't move like molasses. Working my way back though the castle and already found places I missed first time through.

Still feel like I'll struggle against Tower Knight though. Found it barely took any damage and it was hard to read it's patterns to get closer to it.
