They were well and truly fecked at the 70 minute mark. The thing with the high press, high intensity scheme is that they either need to rotate well to keep that up or build a big enough lead that they can sit back and counter with after a while. If they keep going rabid, they'll run out of gas well short of the finish line.
Probably why they've lost the most points from a winning position in the league by far.
And why they've had mad games like being 4-0 up v Villa and then being lucky to hold it to 4-3.

That was also the theme in the Salzburg game, if the opposition can beat the initial press with a couple of smart passes and then there is a center back essentially playing like a clown, they are constantly facing attacks at a numerical disadvantage because the midfielders are going in for challenges they have no business committing to and taking themselves out of the game. In fact Ole was having the same issue with Maguire forcing the issue earlier in the season trying to redeem his ugly summer until he calmed down.

Its always been a weird fad on here for people to latch on to a hipster manager. Lately its been anyone that is considered to be a 'pressing' coach, as though that's the only way to win a game of football.

Southampton weren't that bad today. They do have some weapons and they use them well, but hopefully this helps to calm the opinion that other teams are coached so much better than we are.

I thought we made them look very average. They're clearly a very effective team at set pieces but from open play they barely created anything. They also tired in the last 10/15mins, could be a long season for them, expecting their form to implode soon.

They are very average. He certainly isn't underachieving as a coach there - they are a nice tidy team, they know when to foul and they have a set piece specialist that they make the most out of.

He also isn't doing that much to warrant immense praise though, and thats where it gets frustrating reading peoples opinions on here at times. They are uninformed. Everybody waxes lyrical about Ralph, Marco Rose or Nagelsmann, and i bet they rarely if ever actually watch their teams play football.

Of the matches weve played this season so far theres only one opponent that I thought were coached to a very, very high level, and that was Arteta's Arsenal team, but then they go and lose 3-0 at home to Villa. Just shows you how difficult it is to bring a team up to a consistent level of football, and slowly but surely Ole is doing that for us.

They have an incredibly weak underbelly.
They showed the stats of points they've lost after being ahead and it was comfortably the highest in the league - before including today's ones!

Then remember they just about saw out the Villa game when 4-0 with Villa taking it to 4-3 and being well on top in the second half.
I was surprised he didn't put on a 3rd CM at 2 up, that Diallo guy who came on just before your winner perhaps. Even at two up Bruno was having way too much freedom off the strikers and he started the comeback.

If Hassenhuttl was the United head coach and Ole was the Southampton head coach what do you think would happen? I honestly believe if Hassenhuttl had been our coach we would beat Ole's Southampton comfortably.

I'm also someone that has watched 90% of RB Leipzig's games in the last 2+ seasons and witnessed Hassenhuttl's RBL which finished runners up to Bayern in the 18/19 season and had the best defensive record in the league.

I think Ole has done great since Bruno signed and have zero complaints.
He hasn't done great yet. Doing great would be winning the title or UCL which is what a United manager should be judged on IMO. Let's hope he can achieve that or at the very least challenge for the title because the amount of money this club has spent since he was appointed is quite alot.

Great is a bit of a stretch! We have a really good squad though with key players at the perfect age and experience to win the big honours. If we don't challenge this year then he needs to go.

Still find it very strange he brought on a 3rd striker today at 2-1 when we are all over them.

It offered us more space exactly where we wanted it and we took full advantage.

The commentators were making out this is something he does a lot in order to stretch the opposition. Very strange move against a team like ours I thought and was a big risk that didn’t need making when you’re leading a game.

Think you'll do well to just finish top 4 again. From what I've seen finishing above any of Spurs, Chelsea and Man. City would be a pretty good effort.

Possibly, but we aren't playing to the best of our abilities and have another gear or two to find. Spurs are in the form of their life, we're actually above City and Chelsea haven't beaten a team above 13th all season.

Get as many free kicks and corners for Ward Prowse as possible.

TBF despite the negativity with OGS I do think you're in much better shape than 12 months back when you were firmly mid table and had just drawn 2-2 at home to Villa with likes of Andreas Pereira and Lingard starting.

Table is so hard to read atm. Lose and you'd have remained bottom half. Get that spare game played v Burnley and with a win you're two points off 1st.

We (Villa) win tomorrow night and then v Newcastle on Friday and we could possibly go top again despite losing 3 of our last 4!

Still a little crazy but league is starting to balance out now and think in next two weeks the top 6 will have a very usual look.

Yeah it's a funny one. Can't disagree with any of that. Personally I don't think the title and CL places will be decided on quality but rather who copes the best with the injuries caused by fixture congestion. Who do Villa play tomorrow, out of curiousity?

West Ham away. They'be been pretty good for most of the season when you look at their performances so would be happy with battling point and go all in at home to Newcastle on Friday.

You can't play a very intense press and a really settled line-up week in week out. Not without a special Spanish doctor, anyway.

There's a reason they score more goals in the first half than almost anyone and lose from a leading position more than almost anyone.

Oh, that'll be a good game. West Ham seem to be turning up against the good sides so just turn up like a League 2 side and you should do them.

they just need a bit more quality in the attacking positions and they would be fine.I feel like Ings would have done well today. They are signing players for 10-15 million so they are all very much a work in progress. I think he’s doing great given the resources

I believe this to be true. Not trying to dismiss Ole, he is doing a good job since Bruno came.

He's getting a lot out of those players cause there was a lot of mediocrity on that pitch. He needs to sort out his defensive line and defending in their own half.

Shades of Liverpool when Klopp first joined. Keep them from scoring in the start of the match and the tie becomes very winnable.

I still think he is a good coach. I can see Arsenal getting him if Arteta does not work out. I doubt Poch will go to Arsenal given his Spurs ties.

I mean you only need to look at his record with such an average squad over the last 30 / 40 games. Massively overachieving there, they'd be close to relegation if someone like Big Sam were there for instance.

I love how his players are trained to keep possession very well. Their players are really good at finding each other in tight spaces, and everyone seems to be very quick in their thinking. Obviously they lack a few qualities in that team, but they have some players that suit his profile very well. I have always been an admirer of Romeu. Don't get me wrong he is inconsistent, nasty at times but he just has this way of cleaning everything up while being incredibly tidy in his passing and his technical abilities as well. He is pivotal to this team, imo.

People seem to be forgetting that vast gap in quality that the managers are working with. Getting a bunch of players and structuring the team to perform to their strengths is what a good manager does. Ole would get that Southampton team relegated.

Completely agree mate. The resources and personnel at Ole's disposal are far far superior to what Hassenhuttl has at Southampton. And if we look at Hassenhuttl's managerial career in European football thus far, then it's easy to see that he's far more proven at a higher level in comparison to Ole.

But Hassenhuttl gets labelled the hipster when he's proven over the years that he's a better coach than Ole with the evidence at hand.

Have to love reactionary posts. So we beat Southampton, now Ole is better than RH? RH has a style and improved Southampton 10 fold to where they were previously. Just remember they remain ahead of us in the league at present.

I still watch us and can’t see what Ole is trying to do. Starts with a poor formation which made us very narrow. Rashford playing every single minute of every single game when his form suggest he needs a rest. Cavani should have started after his performance midweek. In the end it was a good result but it’s one game. Too many games this season we are being dominated in general play and games feel very open.
