Mate the completed passes stat is nonsense... Bruno's game is all about risk equals reward - and it very often does with him!
Agreed. I am not bothered about his completed passes tbh, I want to see him try the flicks and tricks, look at the one touch play he has brought to this club since arriving.

Everytime he gets the ball in and around the opponents area, you know he will look for the killer pass or even the fake pass / shot he does sells so many defenders.

I am not complaining for one bit, its refreshing this.

Yeah and it can be frustrating when the pass doesn't get there but if you don't ask you don't get!

Damn man.

I know the armband doesnt mean crap except being a status symbol but it would be really good for him to have it.

Is he ever captained Portugal before or being talked about as one of the future captains for later days?

That video of him not celebrating the second and urging the players to get back was ace!

and I’m not even one to get swayed by passion merchants

He's everything a Utd player should be.

Even when things aren't going his way he doesn't give up, he never hides, he demands the ball.

Fergie would have loved Bruno I reckon.

It's such a shame he's had so few games at Utd in front of an actual crowd. If there were fans allowed to attend he'd be the absolute hero of OT, he would be getting 90% of the chants songs and adulation.

The problem is that his mentality should be the standard of any Man United player (every single player in the squad, including the ones who will not even make the first team), not something that stands out to be praised. You would never in 1000 years see a player celebrating an equalizer with 20 mins still to play under Sir Alex. People call this spoiled because we are not that team anymore, but the truth is that we can only be that good again if we demand this standard of every player on the pitch, every 90 minutes through the whole season, season after season. We are not that team anymore because we accept excuses instead of demanding this mentality of our players. If you're not first you're last.

We accept mediocrity now and it is the biggest reason we are not the best team in the country. There is some made up rule that because City were great 3 years ago and won the title by 1 million points, we need 10 years, a 31 year old manager from x/y league, and a CB who can pass like Iniesta in order to build a team that can win. Excuses is excuses. We would win the PL this season if every one of our players stayed the same in quality, but instead had Bruno's brain inside their head. Look at Real Madrid for example. People call their fans toxic etc, but any player or manager can go and they will remain where they are (long term) forever because if one day anyone senior at the club said that they want to get 3rd/4th with a smile on their face, there will be riots and people being killed in the streets. Us & Madrid are the only two clubs in the world of this stature, but we have forgotten what it means.

The fact that we even notice Bruno doing this shows everything wrong with our club. Even in Fergie's worst ever PL season (finishing in 3rd, when we finished 2nd very recently under Mourinho), if any player celebrated like that and it was not a winner (or a 96th minute equalizer), not one, but every single player on the pitch will reprimand that player. Rio/Keane/Waz/Neville whoever it is, they will bark at them to continue the game. You probably cannot find 1 single example of it ever happening in all of Ferguson's 26 years though, because it was not accepted. Everybody knew what was expected of them when wearing the Man United shirt. Listen to Evra talk about it and see the difference.

Bruno, Rashford & DDG are the only core players we have that are like this. Man United players. Matic & Cavani are also serial winners, with other clubs. Greenwood and Fred give 200% every game & have the quality, too. The rest of our players have a Spurs/Everton mentality, it is not their talent that is in question. They do not take responsibility on the pitch, and are not devastated whne we fail to win. Fletcher, Park, Rafael, O'Shea etc were great for this exact reason. When looking to sign a player to make up the squad, winning mentality will always be more important than what foot they prefer, passing % or some rubbish like that etc etc.

I have felt this for 5/6 years now, I cannot be the only one... I still think Solskjaer is the man. It is the players that are not the standard.

Last couple of matches he is not running up and down. He is staying in his position. Also during corners - when he is not taking them - he is lurking at the edge of the box. It has earned couple of goals lately. Ideally he should not take corners.

But all in all good change. Credit must be given to the coaching staff finally convincing him to trust other teammates to do their job and stay in position to create more chances.

Or you could be a captain who, made the effort to congratulate the impact sub who literally saved the game.

What would it be if nobody went to celebrate with Cavani? Cringe?

What really impresses me about him, is that like most players he can have shit games, he was really poor against Southampton, but he just never stops and even at his worst he invariably pops up with an assist or like the Soton game even a goal. What an stunning player

And certain people argued that he is no better than Pogba and Havertz, saying Pep and Klopp would have either ahead of him. Pep and Klopp would love Bruno’s risk-taking, creativity, goals and assists in their side. I couldn’t care less, and I’m sure they couldn’t too, about Bruno giving the ball away a lot. That is what the #10 is supposed to do, continually try things until he creates a goal, which Bruno often does.

He had an assist and a goal v Southampton!
Ill say it again, hes the midfield Ronaldo. Even if hes having a shit game he will do the wrong thing enough times to get a goal or assist and his stats at the end of the season shocks you.

I didn't mention the assist as Cavani's quick reactions turned it into an assist rather than Bruno's passing making Cavani's goal if you know what I mean. But to be fair, you're dead right he got it because he was shooting at goal, he just never stops trying.

We really need to stop saying, he needs to be captain.

Every leader does not have to be a captain. Fernandes is our talisman, Maguire is our captain. It is obvious Fernandes respects that as well.

We as fans don't know what happens of the pitch, how Maguire is but as every captain they will improve on the job.

Henderson was ridiculed at Liverpool for being captain and has learnt on the job.
They are not all screaming for VVD to be captain, he is a leader in their team.

A successful team needs more than one leader.

It's still incredible to me that he was available, he was exactly what we needed, we actually went and bought him, and he's delivering. Unfathomable in the context of Utd of recent times.

You do wonder, now we can see that his stats have followed him seamlessly from Sporting to Utd, why we had what appeared to be such a clear road to signing him. Looking at other big clubs you could surely see that his talent and numbers would be coveted by most of them.

Exactly. Maguire will appreciate having Bruno on the pitch and we have no clue as to what exactly Maguire is like in the dressing room but I have always assumed he was bought with the expectation that he would be made captain.

Is that a dig on a certain player.
I think Cavani is the only offensive player we have who you can categorically define him as a striker. Martial and Rashford do their best work outside the area , while Greenwood's role is still undecided.

Mane and Salah aren't strikers also. But their off the ball movement is superb.

Indeed but I think that's just comes natural to them which in-comparison to Martial and Rashford we should now acknowledge , after both being managed by various managers and coaches, that this element to their game is simply not there. They just don't naturally have it. Which is obviously frustrating and it fundamentally makes our attacks limited.

How many non penalty goals does he have for us now? Even without the pens his goals to game record has still got to be super impressive no?

Anyone also know how many of his goals for Sporting were pens? @SportingCP96 ?

Says more about our striker options though. When you have a clear striker occupying defenders, things become easier for Bruno as no 10 and he gets the space. When it's Martial he comes short and occupies the same space as that of Bruno and that makes things difficult.

Place Bruno in the Liverpool lineup you will see similar complaints but put him in the Spurs line up and he will just thrive playing off Kane.

Using Transfermarkt data...
So a total of 16/64 = 25%.

For reference Lampard had a ratio of 15/61 (24.6%), Ballack had a ratio of 7/49 (14.3%) and Gerrard had a ratio of 15/57 (26.3%) during their respective 3 year goalscoring peaks for Chelsea, Leverkusen/Bayern and Liverpool from 2005—08, 2001—04 and 2007—10.

That’s a good question that I don’t have an answer too but I can try to assume.

Hist first season he scored 16 goals and Bas Dost was the primary penalty taker so I think 1-3 is the max penalties he took that season.

In the 34 goal season I would reckon 10-12 penalties.

Granted I am at work right now so I can’t go look it up so don’t take these (assumed) numbers as fact haha
