I know Fred should have been taken off but did any of you watch the second half? ole trusted the player because of what he brings the team and we played well until because of it. Sure it was a stupid tackle on a yellow but we lost today because we can’t finish not because ole didn’t take Fred off

Had he done so And we looked worse in the second half I’m sure most will be on here saying he should have trusted the player. Frustrating loss but it is still in our own hands. If we lose next week then we deserve the europa league. This is the champions league. Time to pull the finger out and put a performance next week.

We Played well tonight
Can’t really complain
Should have taken our chances but let’s stay positive
PSG are such a horrible team by the way
I have watched united every game this season and this was some of the best we’ve played
As a point of perspective this is a good point. This was the group of death and we went toe to toe with last years finalists and lost because of very poor finishing from our strikers and going down to 10
Men.

I would have put Pogba on for him in that deeper role strangely enough.
Watch the 77th minute of the game again and you'll see why Pogba can't play there. Fresh legs, PSG break through him and he strolls back not really doing anything.

Martial is the cause of United's loss. He should have scored given those opportunities. United should stick with Rasford and Cavani as their main strikers.

I am absolutely gutted by this defeat.. so Ill take the positives:

I'm gutted because the loss is so wildly undeserved.
We created more than enough chances to put 3 or 4 balls into the net.

Team played some fantastic football. It was just one of those nights.

Fred should have been off, there is no defending that one. That Martial miss especially is just too much. Greenwood last week, Martial now. Our forwards needs to start earning their wages

We matched them in the first half and then we absolutely dominated them in the second half. It was very enjoyable, albeit frustrating, to see us creating chance after chance only to miss all of those glorious chances... I could also understand why Ole left Fred on the field as he is very important part of our midfield. I think it was the first red card for Fred and despite his style of play he rarely gets yellow cards. We will hugely miss him against RB Leipzig. Rashford also seems injured for at least a month.

For me this is the best team since 2014, but I am still nervous and not confident... after all of those succesful years under Fergie the last few seasons left me shell schoked and now I have to deal with this footballing PTSD.

Ole leaving his subs to late again. Fred should of been off after an hour at most. Probably shouldn't of been on the pitch for the 2nd half. Had plenty of options on the bench. Martial's poor finishing cost us a result. The man is clearly just in bad form and the hate for him is unnecessary. Bruno was uncharacteristically poor tonight and was frustrating the hell out of me. Why he didn't pull the trigger with that chance in the 1st half I'm not to sure. The way we started that 2nd half we should of won that game. Wish that Cavani dink went in.

Now we have to go to Leipzig and get a result.

A frustrating night all round.

Well somebody who can put the ball in the net on a consistent basis would help. Martial is too flakey for me.
Yeah but how is that a tactical thing? Greenwood was taken off at 45 last week because he missed open net. Twice.

Fred will complete a couple of 3 yard passes next week and be flavour of the month again.

Ole admits he maybe should have taken Fred off, but he tought he was good and important and took a risk. Honest and fair, and makes complete sense.

I am more interested in why Cavani was taken off. That i can't understand.
He's 33 and has ran like his life depended on it. Cramp city

It's not often I say this, but we were clearly the better team and deserved to win, as we played the better football and created most chances to win it. Unlucky with VAR and PSG got a couple of very lucky goals to be honest.

Yup. 100%. We were controlling the game til Fred got sent off. More than capable replacements on the bench. Suicidal to keep him in there.
We went 2 1 down with 11 men. Fred only sent off after.

Bad finishing from us allowed them to get back in it. Martial should have 2 goals and we would be through as they don't come back from 3 1.

If you don't take chances at this level you're punished.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Ole cost us the game.
1) the most obvious not taking off Fred
2) being to defensive and not trusting our ability to play against PSG, despite having two cdm’s we still created chances, imagine if we had DVB or Pogba instead of Fred
3) Took too long to make changes, as soon as we equalised and it was at 1-1 he was content to keep it like that... yet PSG were making changes.
4) His subs didn’t make any sense, we’re losing yet he leaves us with one 18 year old alone up front and then brings on Igalo having previously taken off Cavani who is xxxx times better.

What this match did show is that we have some great players.
A nice balanced review of the entire game... all the pros and all the cons.

Ole, Fred and Martial should all have a word. We might still be waiting for Martial to bring it at 33. Played well but idiotic errors cost us, It's on Ole if we flunk this.

How is this on Ole?
Because Martial couldn't finish easy chances?
Or because Fred was sent off for not-a-foul?
Because Fred was a walking red card. Everyone knew that. I spoke about that with a friend at half time ffs, it was so obvious for most of us.

We where the better team i honestly blame Ole and Martial for the loss. Ole for not taking off Fred we all know what PSG are about and also Martial for missing a sitter you cant miss a chance that is easier to score than miss.

Why for goodness sake can we not set our team up to win at home.
Well Ole blames it on not having a crowd. I can see us losing quite a few more at home before season ends, I also have zero faith in our CBs.

Tonight though had he removed Fred at half time for Donny and Martial had scored that easy chance we probably would have won. Also why the hell take off Cavani when chasing a goal?

Really poor from the boss and Martial.

I don't think Pogba is interested in playing for MUFC. He is waiting to leave and probably would've left last Summer, had it not been for Covid19 and reduced transfer fees.

I don’t know how Fred was still on the pitch come half time. There is a serious lack of discipline in that player.

I’m so angry with him.

Hugely frustrating game. I'm only disappointed at our missed chances. We actually played a good game and went toe to toe with the 'mighty' PSG. The Fred red card is a terrible mistake that Ole could have avoided by taking him off. Failed gamble, that. I'm still optimistic though. Leipzig aren't PSG. And we've pulled off many a good result when the pressure is on. Let's go do this!

Honestly, Fred on a yellow and on a borrowed time is a handicapped Fred so I dont’t agree.
I don't think a manager should just sub Fred every time he's on a yellow. Managers keep players on a lot when this happens and I think most of the time it works out OK and they don't get sent off. It's a gamble that didn't work today but I think it was worth taking since nobody on the bench could adequately replace him.

Still waiting to see who people would suggest as his replacement from the bench. I'd take Fred on a yellow over Pogba right now.

On reddit the PSG fans are raving that this was their best match in ages.

Why is it that we always lose to teams that are not in the best form, but we have a decent team? I wonder how the team would be under a different manager.

Pros. Our team is actually very good. Despite being set up to counter, despite there being no connection between Bruno and a CM behind him, we actually played well due to our individual talent. I can only dream of what we’ll do when
1) Ole develops a proper system/style of play
2) Ole realises we have the players to dominate most matches and don’t have to play a low block vs PSG with two holding CM’s

Games like this (and there’s plenty) show why there’s a significant portion of fans who believe Martial, and to a slightly lesser extent, Rashford, should not be first team choices.

Got slagged off for calling Martial a poor mans Berbatov a while back, I stand by that statement.
I havent rated Martial any better than the first season he was here. Hes 25 on Saturday (Google) and hasnt kicked on at any great level at all. I could understand why Mourinho wanted him moved on. Way too inconsistent to be the main striker and no better than Greenwood or Rashford on the wing. He had a purple patch last season, but still missed a load of chances and thats now history. A good striker does it season on season.

How did Ole, Carrick, McKenna and Phelan decide to keep Fred on? Let alone start him in the first place.

Ive never seen such an obvious red card in my life. I was genuinely angry, baffled and shocked to see Fred still out there on 46 minutes.

A player aggressively produces a head butt motion and gets a yellow, is on borrowed time. A good tackle was deemed a 2nd yellow. That’s how obvious it was.

DVB on at half time secures 11 v 11 for 90 mins.

Risk v opportunity completely misjudged

Confirmed by Ole or your opinion?
My opinion as a semi-professional athlete that knows when fatigue sets in. I AM just guessing, but he wasnt taken off because he was playing poorly was he

Thought the banana skin would be SOTON but this game I said had the same feel. Not really surprised, was banking on PSG bottling it again.
