I keep thinking the table must be wrong. Nobody is running away like City and Liverpool have done over recent seasons but being two points off top with no extra games played doesn’t make sense.

Imagine if we weren't shit!

Again, I agree with you there. I think we've done well results wise, all things considered. Performance wise, not so much.
We’ve been crazy inconsistent but also have been excellent at times. I feel like we don’t get enough credit. Too much doom and gloom.

I think this thread is a tongue in cheek at how the f*ck are we 4th when we’ve played like we have this season.....

we must be the most seasonal team in the league - we blow hot and cold so often it’s very hard to predict. On our day we can be scintillating - also shocking.

our undoing will be our inconsistency - we can all see that we are not balanced and defensively we are poor - offensively we can be very good in spurts - but it’s just inconsistent.

think we are in for many days like today - disparity at half time and elation at full time - but sprinkled with nights like the PSG game last week

People forget about the times we've played well, and instead dwell on the poor spells. I have no idea why.

If there was a stronger mentality within the club and we were a much more tactically drilled team we would see being 4th as a huge failure.

To this side where there aren’t much experience in winning leagues this is seen as some sort of achievement.

No it's not. Noone is saying it's an achivement at all - that just happens to fit your crap agenda.

The thread is about the fact that we're 4th, yet the bed wetters are throwing toys out of the pram and acting as if we're battling for relegation. Anyone would think we were 19th given the state of this forum.

There's still a long way to go in the season, and while 4th should be the absolute bear minimum, I think most people would agree that anything other than a semblence of a title challenge this eason would represent a failure.

What’s sarcastic about it? I’m not putting any effort into anything. I’m realistic to know that progress in PL is incremental. And I’m loving this approach from the club.
I asked you if it was sarcasm since I couldn't tell. If you think breaking into the top 4 after 10 games is an indication of massive progress because it took 37 games to do that last season then that's fine, it just doesn't make much sense to me.

I’ve got no agenda just don’t see the excitement about being 4th!

With the squad we have I don’t think it’s unrealistic to aim higher

Given our performances and results, fourth is great right now. It's still early days, but it goes to show what a few consecutive wins can do. If we can find some consistency, we can be in the mix this season. The issue is the inconsistency: never knowing what might happen. It's such a rollercoaster.
Yeah, but we have 4 wins on the trot in the league now. I don't know when it happened last time appart when Ole was appointed.
Our game against City is massive next. Would love a win but a draw will be a good result.

That's literally what inconsistent means. No-one is saying we are bad all of the time or even most of the time.

After the unavoidable and bad start we had, it’s certainly very good progress.

A lot of people understating the fact to make top 4. Probably because we had a decade under Fergie mocking Arsenal about that.

But lets think about the fact that we didn't make top 4 two times in a row since Fergie left.

It will actually be a good achievement for Ole. It doesn't mean it is an end for the club but it will give us stability to finish the rebuild and give us some actual consistency.

I know the aim is to win the league for club, supporters, players and manager but it is a bit irrealistic yet. Sure it is possible but I won't be gutted if we don't. Even a proper challenge would be amazing.

That is it !!! Some people will prefer us to fail then being wrong ! They will cry about some magical system Ole did not implement like Nagelsmann or Rose or Pochettino, all serial winners and football genius. They will scream if we don't score 10 every game. They won't even be happy if we win the league as it will be only because of Bruno and not the System.

Posting a thread saying "We are 4th" in December is really embarrassing no matter what. If I saw a similar thread in a Liverpool forum I would be laughing my arse off it and I doubt the reaction here will be any different.

"We are 4th" what the feck is this title ?

I doubt if anyone is particularly excited about being 4th after 10 games.

It is a point of perspective after the hysteria on the caf (and actually in the media) after a couple of bad results we had (after no pre-season). Two points off top is okay at this stage. We’re in the mix.

Some will say “in the mix?!? We should be ten points clear at the top.” But I just wouldn’t take those folk seriously at all.

The standards really have went through the floor when you see how excited some people get over us being 4th after 10 games. And when you don't celebrate it you're patronised and called spoiled and entitled. We used to laugh at Arsenal and (pre-Klopp) Liverpool but that's what we're becoming.
When you don't support the team winning or losing, yeah you're pretty spoiled and entitled. All you did was pick a team to follow, what gives you some kind of right to belittle results?

This notion of pretending that clubs don't go through cycles of ups and downs is just weird. The game and league is not the same as it was in 2005, 2008 or 2013.

So, are you happy? Are you positive this means we will end Top4 or even challenge for the title with a VanDick-less Liverpool and City looking human-normal? I am not. Ole's Utd is inconsisent. Unpredictable.

That's the problem with Ole. We could lose the next PL match and be knocked out of the UCL by Leipzig.

Inconsisent. Unpredictable.

Its ironic just how much the moaners moan about these types of threads.

The only reason these types of threads exist is because there are so many moaners moaning.

Put your pom poms away for one night for Christ's sake. I support the club and what I think is best for it first and foremost and manager second. You seem to have it the other way around but I understand that because of where you're from.

Daft thread. We’re at the minimum position that should be expected of our squad.

The Ole out thread should be a shit load calmer than it is but don’t start throwing 4th around as though it’s something the 2nd most expensive squad in the league should be cheering.

It’s possible to be both relieved that we’re not 16th and amazed that we’re 4th. It’s not where we want to be, but it’s a lot better than where we would have been but for two second half comebacks. We’re now in a position to make a proper run for the PL trophy in this bizarre season, and if we lift the PL trophy we’ll probably look back at the results against Southampton and West Ham as the turning point in the season.

Better to embrace it than to throw shit at the club.

It's a reasonable question. What's so great about being in 4th? In early Dec ffs.
I don't see anyone jumping around about being 4th. I don't see posters getting the bunting out or suggesting it's worthy of celebration.

The simple point is that things aren't as bad as the naysayers are making out. The world isn't ending, we're not "embarrassing" or a "disgrace". We're doing ok, and despite a slow start to the season, we're still within touching distance of the top of the table.

After the start we've made I'm amazed we're 4th.

Not sure its something to celebrate based on our performances. No doubt Woodward will be on the phone to the Glazers updating them on how the franchise is on track for a good year end despite the pandemic.

I mean, the OP created a thread stating "We are 4th"

Agree with you on the other points. I think the frustration is mostly down to knowing we have a decent squad but still playing so inconsistently. And knowing a better manager would be able to get more out of them.
