Players greeting each other after a match is now some major offense? The pathetic lengths some will go to find something to complain about.

Sometimes I think the CAF needs a Valium and a couch to lie on.

Agree with OP. The problem is that these players consider a draw a good result. United of old always went out to win and a draw used to be a massive disappointment.

If I'm disappointed in the result I wouldn't go about hugging the opposition even if we were best friends. Standards are too low under Ole.

It's a game, sometimes you accept when two teams were level with each other. There's too much toxicity and vitriol with the 'always win' mentality, Roy Keane embodies that. Spirit and aggression are only a small part of being a title winning club.

This perfectly sums up my feelings. I’m not asking our lads to kick lumps out of City after the full time whistle. But they don’t have to wear shit eating grins after a tumescent performance and result.

The performances and after game love-in between them all made me feel like both managers had agreed to settle for a draw before we'd even started.
I think that's what is irking people about it. Some fans would sort that out quite quickly I think.

Kills me to agree with Keane because everything he does comes from a place of irrational or unnecessary anger but on this instance he isn't wrong. Following a match where no team took initiative or showed ambition seeing everyone seemingly so satisfied will leave fans (who were already fuming with the performances) even more pissed off. It's normal to pay respects to your opponents as a formality but this one actually looked like delight and relief. That it comes from the coaches and club captain didn't make matters any better.

The whole of the league has changed their standards that way and I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t instructed to tbh. Professionalism seems to be thought of very highly

All these people have much more in common with each other than anyone else (especially commoners). They are likely friends in real life. The days of old style rivalries is over. Another thing money has ruined.

Don't care about that. Care about the game, it was embarrasing, from both teams.

Pathetic thread. And just to make it clear, Roy Keane isn’t someone we should listen to for anything, the man would lose every job after one day because he just isn’t very pleasant with other people.

We are not a top team anymore, we produced zero chances against a top team - they only had a couple themselves. Hugging and high-fiving is okay after a draw, it wouldn’t happen after a win or loss.. these guys are friends, they play for the same national teams. Absolutely no problem with that from me. If it’s 1st vs. 2nd in match 37 it’s a different spectacle, but we’re obviously not there.

I just wondered if you were complaining because it’s a new thing and/or something all clubs and players do, new-style player you might say.

Is Pep weak? Klopp etc?
Im complaining because its a current issue and its probably the modern player that's half of the issue. I dont see anyone other than Bruno that looks like they care enough. Its only going to get worse as the years go by at elite level

And those other managers you mentioned are not weak in my opinion. Quite the opposite in fact.

How ever maddening it sounds....Roy Keane trully is the voice of reason.

Football has gone tits up.

It all started with Nasri and that bloody neckwarmers.
He is, our teams used to fall out with EACH OTHER after a loss, desperate to put it right, now after a soft as shit display its hugs and laughs.

You won't get far if you only listen to pleasant people.

Keane is bloody right.
We're obviously not there in some part because of our poor state of mind.

You go out there, focused on one thing only, win the fecking game.

I don't give a shit about their friendship, if I lose a sunday 6v6 match against my friends, i'm fecking pissed and it takes me a beer or two to calm down.

This is their job! We need to learn how to build up tension!
Go all out, gung ho, feck things up!

I grew up watching Cantona and Keane later...i can't go down in standard watching Pogba stroll around. Makes my blood boil in anger.

ffs what a pathetic thread! Its just football, you lot act like its real life. these blokes are normal human soutside of kicking a ball for 90 minutes. So they cant say hi and catch up because some cameras are on? this mentality is one of my biggest pet peeves in all of football.

I don't like it either, but come to think of it they are right, and we are wrong. It's just a game. Players understand this, and that it's their livelihood, see each other as colleagues and fellow professionals.

We as fans get invested and worked up about millionaires kicking a ball, something we have no control over, and try to embue it with meaning. Get worked up about a stranger's haircut, where he was standing on the pitch, how much effort they seemed put in and what they and their agents say to the media.

Football is (for better or worse) becoming too corporate and sanitized, and fans finding it difficult to invest emotionally in teams. Boxing and wrestling at least put in an effort to manufacture the drama and give a sense of rivalry, and that winning or losing does mean something.

Boxers beat lumps out of each other for 10 rounds and are usually very friendly afterwards.

Does it say anything about their mental state going into the contest? No it doesn't.

Also from the footage I saw, at the final whistle the players mostly looked disappointed as you'd expect.

The concern should be with what went on during the 90, not after it.

No real issues here.

That's not what most posters are saying though so keep conveniently ignoring it. Hugging and shaking hands after a match isn't a problem in isolation.

It is part of a pattern where the team seems to have lost their edge, the x-factor, the extra effort you put in when you life is on the line. If getting 3 points for the club meant as much for them, they would be depressed and dejected after playing out a drab draw at home against their city rivals. They can hug and kiss all they want after picking up 3 points but if this is the performance on offer then they better show some remorse and they better feel bad like how the fans do. There is nothing wrong in asking for that. Their reaction was as vapid and moribund as the football on offer today.

Pre-Match warm ups. In the tunnel before kick-off. At half-time. At full-time.

Kissing, hugging, stupid handshakes, swapping shirts with opposition players, laughing and joking. Call me a dinosaur I fecking hate it

But lets not pretend its not been happening for YEARS now

I just roll my eyes.

I blame the fact the game is like basketball these days. You get a yellow card for everything. I miss the needle in games. It's all fancy airy fairy shite

More bothered about being professional pre match and during it. Not a fan of friendly chat before kick off but this is after.
Main problem i think is that the game itself was 2 teams happy with a 0 0 and fans feel shortchanged with such s lack of ambition

The only pathetic thing here is that Ole and the club are ecstatic with the draw. You can see there is no desire to compete for anything but the Top 4 trophy. Ole wants to keep his job and the players want to keep their CL participation salaries. They don't want to put in the effort to be Champions.

its was very odd seeing Ole bound onto the pitch beaming fistbumping City players. Then Carrick had his arm around Pep for a few minutes chatting him up

Some people have major issues with comprehension in this thread.

No one is asking our players to beat the shit out of City’s lads at full time.

But, even if you are friendly off the field, can’t you just save the pleasantries for the changing rooms?

I personally find it quite instructive that lads like Maguire behave like that after a drab 0-0 draw.

It tells me that they’re quite pleased with what has gone down.

Should we be surprised though? Probably not. What has our captain ever achieved in his career? What has Bruno ‘Elite Mentality’ Fernandes ever won?

I am trying to be constructive, but the long and short of it is that we don’t have winners in our squad, which makes it hard to foster a winning mentality.

You expect that to come from the management and board, but we know there is no drive from that level.

That’s why everyone was having a laugh and joke at full time. How they weren’t frustrated and pissed off is beyond me.

Unfortunately this seems to be part of the game now, although there is a fine line between showing respect and a full on bromance. The supporter's frustrations are probably influenced by the performance of the team on that day. Couldn't they just wait until they've left the pitch, had their shower and meet up in the players lounge and whisper sweet nothings over a smoothie then? After the match I take time to analyse and assess the game, pros and cons. Players nowadays don't need that time, they have forgot about it before the refs full time whistle is complete. The sooner the fans get back in the better. Let's see how long the hugs last then. Really hoping the proposed Standing Section takes the atmosphere up a level.

There was only one player on the pitch actually from the Greater Manchester area, you can’t expect these players to have similar amounts of hatred for the other side as the fans.

I don’t see the need for hugs and chats at any time, except maybe scoring a goal, but then I’m not a touchy-feely ball kicker.
