It's supposed to be a brilliant open world but not in the GTA way - planes/metro/helocopters. It's more like a Deus Ex open world that's stunning in its detail from what I've read. So if you're looking to have fun and cause mayhem in the open world, it probably isnt your cup of tea.
Thanks. That fits the impression I had been getting from this thread. Maybe I'll wait until they introduce the multiplayer.

Do people really not care that the cars look like 1980s comics of the future? Are most of them ICE? All have 4 or 6 wheels? Is there any public transport at all? Planes/Helicopters/Jetpacks/other propulsion that non-storyline NPC's use? RPG usually aren't my cup of tea but open world cities are, is it a lot more of the former and not much of the later?
Well it's cyberpunk. That's like, it's definition

Cyberpunk is a setting of science fiction in a dystopian futuristic setting that tends to focus on a "combination of low-life and high tech"[1] featuring advanced technological and scientific achievements, such as artificial intelligence and cybernetics, juxtaposed with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order.[2] Much of cyberpunk is rooted in the New Wave science fiction movement of the 1960s and 1970s, when writers like Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, John Brunner, J. G. Ballard, Philip José Farmer and Harlan Ellison examined the impact of drug culture, technology, and the sexual revolution while avoiding the utopian tendencies of earlier science fiction.

Comics exploring cyberpunk themes began appearing as early as Judge Dredd, first published in 1977.[3] Released in 1984, William Gibson's influential debut novel Neuromancer would help solidify cyberpunk as a genre, drawing influence from punk subculture and early hacker culture. Other influential cyberpunk writers included Bruce Sterling and Rudy Rucker. The Japanese cyberpunk subgenre began in 1982 with the debut of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga series Akira, with its 1988 anime film adaptation later popularizing the subgenre.
CP2077 is set in the Cyberpunk Red universe which splits from ours in the 90s

Just to go against some of the negative comments, I have continued progressing the story and its absolutely gripping. On top of that, some of the side characters you meet are some the best I've ever encountered and they branch off into some fantastic and memorable side quests that for me rival anything The Witcher delivered. The one thing I do agree with Gamespot on is the lack of cohesion between the story unfolding and the world. The main quest has a real sense of urgency and there's really no good reason why I should be off completing contracts, buying cars, cyberware etc. Now the game is much better if you do those things anyway but from a narrative perspective, it falls down a bit there. The side quests and branches are more believable as I think even against the clock these are important moments. Overall it's such a shame about the issues and current uproar as this is genuinely an unbelievably good game I think.

Oh. That makes sense. I wasn't aware of that, I thought it was just supposed to be a dystopian future and wasn't aware it's a specific genre of dystopian future. Thanks.
Check out retrofuturism too. It’s a little different but along the same lines. Fallout falls under this.

Had a proper buggy session last night.

Regularly had audio not playing, enemies not appearing but still were able to shoot me, weird lighting glitches where is suddenly becomes incredibly bright. These are the first real bugs I've seen other than semi frequent crashes on PS5.

"Thank you for contacting PlayStation.

CD Projekt Red is currently working on patches and updates to fix bugs and crashes, and to improve overall gameplay experience of Cyberpunk 2077.

Please visit https://en.cdprojektred.com/ for information on any patches or updates to Cyberpunk 2077."

Absolute cnuts of the highest order, can't even reply to it!

I wouldn't really mind it sitting in the library until I get the ps5, but just the way they took everyone's money and fecked em' doesn't sit right with me.
They are not replying even in GOG (their own platform), which is nothing short of a disgrace (considering that they had this policy of returning games for any reason).

I get the impression refund requests are being conveniently ignored until the patch next week in the hopes that makes people reconsider.

I'm enjoying the game but I do feel like it's getting more buggy the more I progress. Unfortunately I bought digital on PS5 so any hopw of me having a straight forward refund are nonexistent.

Thing is that they give refunds only in the first two weeks after buying the game I think, so if they ignore them for another week, then they don't need to give the refunds.

They are outdoing EA.

I won't be surprised if there's a class action lawsuit against them over this release and their obvious massaging of the true state of the game on anything that wasn't a high end PC.

It's still a graphical mess. the One X version, when you turn your front wheels on certain cars, the brake pads stick through the alloy ffs.

Act 2 seems cool though, it's really opening up now.

I hope so. They are behaving very badly.

Hmm just delaying the final mission and have tried to go through as many sidequests and gigs as possible and I've played for 43 hours. Not sure how anyone can get 70 hours+ out of this apart from dallying about.

I'm at 38 hours and have a screen full of side quests to do and most of the story missions left to do. I'm going to say the same in reverse

I haven't used fast travel once and am going between areas whilst exploring buildings etc though because I'm enjoying finding areas and the little touches they've put into the game. Each area takes me ages to explore due to the verticality of the world as well.

Mate I’m on like 17 hours and have barely got in to the game. I’ve stopped playing though til more updates are out.

You'll be fine, my mate's running it on a 970 and he's not had too many problems. You'll naturally be expected to turn down some settings, but on 1080p you should get a decent near 60fps experience with some tweaking.

I think it depends on playstyle too - I'm 30 hours in and barely touched the story missions. I'm also a full intelligence/hacking spec, so it takes me longer sneaking my way into objectives, quietly neutralising enemies and shutting down defenses. If you're playing a very aggressive, guns-blazing spec you're probably breezing though objectives much quicker.

Just gotta say, having spent a chunk of time - the side missions are really something. Genuinely awesome some of them.

I think this game is a serious achivement, despite its flaws.

Are people on PC also experiencing a lot of bugs and crashes or is it mostly the console people. My experience has been quite smooth on PC so far, though maybe Im just lucky? Or not paying enough attention..

No crashes so far but it is buggy as hell, yeah, but mostly just to do with the world like weird Ai and cars crashing randomly or being halfway under the road or NPCs floating around or being unable to pick stuff up. Haven't had anything game breaking... yet. It is a shambles, though, that's for sure.

Hope they can eventually patch this stuff out. The last gen console versions though... That seems beyond stuff a patch can fix.

Mine's been pretty stable on PC. One random crash but in almost 40 hours I'm OK with that. I'm seeing a few small bugs, but nothing major. I think I must not be paying attention enough to see some of them.

The crowd and car AI is pretty bad though which is the main thing I notice.

The gameplay really starts to get more interesting once you level up and acquire some better tech (also playing on hard at least is a must). Outside of performance issues on console a lot of the negativity goes too far. Of course it's not perfect, however I haven't been this entertained by a game in the last few years and I've played most big releases. People shouldn't be scared off from giving this a try if they have the means, otherwise they are really missing out.

Regarding RDR2.

It's hard to disagree with this statement. You can find the story boring all you like but for me it was perfect as it was for most people. The sheer scope of the game is unbelievable and on top of that the graphical fidelity is absolutely mesmerising. Just jaw dropping.

As evidenced by gameplay, tone, sound design, art-style, voice-acting, world-building, and so much more, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the most intricately handcrafted video game of all time. Most other video games don't even come close to the level of quality and detail present here. At least not open world games.

I agree anyway with you , it's the best game I've played as a whole. I have to play through it again and be a bad guy next time.

If you can, wait for next gen patch. I'm playing it on PC. 4K Ultra/high and some medium to hit 60fps and I swear it's mind-blowing how well crafted this game is. It's just so easy to just get lost in it as the graphics just add that extra immersion.

Fixed.

It was definitely a very good game with a great world and really strong writing. But it's gameplay was pretty wank and basic, sadly.

I'd give it a 9/10. To each their own, though. We all look for different things in games.

Gun play wasn't great. I found everything else very satisfactory. Gunplay has never been rockstars strong point. Immersion, writing, voice acting, pacing, character development (so story telling) is. I'm playing GTAV at the minute and it's as good as the day I picked it up on ps3. Pacing is much different of course but the storytelling part as a whole remains next level.

I haven't played Cyberpunk yet but I definitely will because at least graphically it's meant to be colossal but no way I'm touching it while it's a buggy mess.

Also, did the game live up to the hype - probably was never going to with that amount of hype but still, did we get a great game in there? Or do people just want it to be great when it's really rather disappointing?
