Is there any player in recent history that compares with Lukaku in scoring so many goals yet being thought of by so many people as a pretty poor player?
I don't think he'd get much criticism if he accepted his limitations and focused on being the best he can be with his skillset, like say for what Giroud has done.

His issue is he's got the ego of a bonafide world class player and more worryingly (going by his comments and actions down the years) seems to genuinely think he actually is one.

Rambling Italians.

Romelu Lukaku is “better than Harry Kane”, according to Nicola Ventola, while Christian Vieri says Bayern frontman Robert Lewandowski would struggle to match the Belgian’s goalscoring feats at Inter.

Moved into the right position to get to the ball though, so there's that.
Looked more more focused to point with his finger to where Hakimi would've obviously passed the ball to him even without his hint, rather than to actually get there to connect properly.

When I saw this bumped, I knew he’d either scored a great goal, or missed a sitter. Pleased it’s the latter - looking forward to the gif/ meme.

it’s Christmas - he’s the gift that keeps giving.

Popped into this thread as I saw Lukaku on the Guardian’s best 100 footballers list above Bruno Fernandes. I never really had any particular bitterness towards Romelu. My joy in seeing him leave was because he had a small time, fragile mentality, and he is stylistically one of the ugliest footballers I’ve watched play for us in an attacking position. He’s very much a blunt instrument that can be very effective against lesser sides, but he hurts the overall team dynamic, made us predictable and horrible to watch going forwards; and was useless against good sides.

But when I saw him listed above Bruno, I think something snapped in my head. I can’t ever imagine anyone watching this donkey bang them in in a second tier league, and think he’s a top class player.

Joke. Purely a stats padding player. Which I actually thought would be great for us as we struggled against smaller teams. Alas, he was just pants

Has he lost a chunk (lolz) of weight?

Looks like he’s moving much quicker/freely in those clips.

They are not rating class or first touch or no of misses etc. He has goals in the calendar year. He is in the top 10 goal scorers of Europe.
People cannot ignore that however ugly the goals were.

Not that I am batting for him. Don't really care whether he is rated in top 10 or out of top 100

And that’s everything that’s wrong with the list. Call it top 100 players by Stats of the year. Not top 100 footballers, because football is a fluid game with a multitude of tangibles and intangibles. I don’t think he’s even good enough for the top 100, let alone top 20. Absolute joke.

Saw a lot of him this year?

I get that you guys can't get over his time with you, but he's actually been really great this year. And he is a great player

The rest is noise

Yes by scoring tap ins vs dog shite teams or fecking up chances when it matters the most.

But he scores. A lot. And does a lot of useful things for them on top of that. He's been carrying inter the whole year, like Bruno for United

Of course he does because that's Conte's tactic play the ball to Lukaku. That's basically his only game plan and when it doesn't work he gets fecked.

So? It works the majority of the time. Inter depend on him a lot, and so far he's delivering. Not quite like a world class, top 10 in the world player, but he's delivering

Wtf it's absolutely outrageous that he blew for full time on that  Or was he blowing for the foul, then immediately for full time?

Lukaku should have done that with his leg!!
Yeah Lewandowski might have reached it with his legs.

Jesus feck, either Lukaku's remembered how to use his strength at Inter or Italian defenders are really fecking weak. He was on the wing attempting those kinds of dribbles plenty in the Prem for us and never got past his man. Sent in some nice crosses though.

Seen enough of him to see that he’s still the same donkey he always was, and now has the luxury of playing against lower quality opposition. My post makes note of his effectiveness in such circumstances. It also says he’s not a very good all round footballer, which is my entirely subjective opinion. I just don’t rate him pure and simple.

Bit pathetic to post that "open goal" miss to be honest. Was hardly a wasted opportunity.

Inter have won 7 in a row, are a point of first place and he has 11 goals and 2 assists in 13 games.

No, he'll never have certain technical qualities, but he does what he's supposed to do and he's appreciated for it in Italy and beyond.

Too much objectivity for the giddy children in here waiting with baited breath for every Lukaku error. It would be funny if he was indeed a flop but Lukaku has been very successful at Inter, so it just comes across as bitter.

I've seen the usual suspects post his 'feck ups' in games he's played very well in or even scored game winners. The obsessive hatred for him is just small time.
