Baby steps..slowly but surely they are going in the right direction. They've built a solid core of young players and now they just have to stick to their philosophy and recruitment policy. With stable ownership it's only a matter of time before they will be back on top. Bennacer, Kessie, Theo Hernandez are exceptional young players that will only get better. If ownership continue to invest in this squad they will be a force once again there is no doubt. Incompetent management basically wasted a whole decade for this club.

Impressive campaign with a bunch of mostly unknown players and a 40 yo leader.

Anyone but Juve. I'm sick of them.

I think it would be fantastic for the European game if the likes of Milan and inter can build elite level teams again!
I used to love watching football italia on channel 4 as a child!
The champions league could really do with the top Italian teams pushing on again as well.

I think it's been like a year since Pioli was appointed and they never looked back since. They started really playing well after January and have been on a tear almost a whole calendar year. Ibra really instilled some leadership on that young bunch.

Agree with that. Until someone breaks the Juventus procession, Serie A will be somewhat of a joke. I think we are all rooting for a revival of one of European football’s great clubs.

Who are their top 3 players? It's weird but I genuinely couldn't name their first XI at the moment bar Ibra, Rebic and Donnarumma.

So it wasn't plastic back then?

I don't know any player that plays for Milan apart from Ibra and their keeper. That to me is mind-blowing given how iconic they were over the past 2 decades.
To be fair though would many AC Milan fans know Mctominay, Fred etc doesn’t mean they don’t have good players. We know how good the 2 boys are but foreign fans maybe not as much

One of the 3 best left wingbacks in the world

People need to watch more football!

(Just won them the most difficult game of the season in injury time)

Not that I don't know him but I didn't know he played for Milan. Like, I couldn't field a Milan first XI right now.
Well, its hardly AC Milans fault that you dont know who they are fielding.
They have several players many knows about.

Is Seedorf still playing for them?

Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Stam (Costacurta), Maldini (Serginho), Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf (Ambrosini)Kaka (Rui Costa), Crespo, Shevchenko .....Ancelotti

Probably my all time favourite club side that. Barca were many neutral's favourites at the time with Ronaldinho and Messi coming through but I loved the old boys network of Milan turning it on in CL from spring ever year. Fun era of football that.

They do seem to be mirroring Man. United a fair bit with trajectory. 18 months back I had them down as hopeless. Can still remember them conceding 96th minute goal to Benevento from their goal keeper and first half of last season Fiorentina scored 4 at San Siro and Atalanta won 5-0 in the game before winter break. Giampaolo was the wrong call there.

Probably as time has gone on Gattuso has become their OGS in that he got them back on the right stuff and close to achieving stuff without taking that final step. Amazed Pioli is doing it now and fair play to their board to u turning about bringing Rangnick in, looks very much the correct call now.

Calisto Tanzi was the owner of Parmalat who bankrolled Parma. Parmalat is still the largest bankruptcy in European history and it was later found out that huge amounts of money was embezzled.

Berlusconi - suspended prison term for tax fraud.
Cragnotti spent a huge amount at Lazio at that time aswell.

My favourite was Gaucci at Perugia. Some incredible off the scale signings they made there.... :D

Don't understand those who're surprised by people who don't know Theo Hernandez, or ignore most of our Starting XI. It doesnt mean we're average but simply they don't watch football outside PL or Champions League which is understandable.

I mean Real Socidead and Leverkusen were top of the table until last week and I can't name more than 3 regular starters of those teams.. Oyarzabal and David Silva from La Real, Bailey Tah and Schick from B04??

Yes please, it would be cool. Juvetus is getting kinda boring, and Inter has been for ages.

Glad they won tonight. Really hope they win it all. Will be fantastic scenes seeing them back on top and again in CL next season as league champions. Always had soft spot for them, beside Zlatan is one of my most favorite strikers of the current generation.

Indeed. To this day, I still admire/dread the "take no prisoners" approach of pre-10's AC Milan. Only Bayern in 2013 and 2020 can compare.

Zlatan is the life missing ingredient they need to revive. Let's see if they can keep this up.
It's nice seeing AC Milan climbing back to the top, starting with Serie A.

Yes and On the pitch yes, the players are stepping up. The have the missing "confidence" and "mentality".

Off the pitch, Zlatan is still doing his thing, influencing the players. It's just like with us in season 2016/17, even when he's out, he's still around exerting his influences to the players.

AC have no chance imho. They have a few oustanding youngsters (Gigio, Theo, Hauge) and Gulliver Zlatan upfront, sure, but Conte’s Inter is so stacked and wired this year, they will need 90+ points to have a chance, which in the long run seems frankly out of their reach. A top 4 spot seems achievable, though, which will make Serie A quite spicey because there are six or seven legit teams competing for 4 CL spots this year.

Don’t see it that way at all! Zlatan has scored a few goals this season, and even a couple of nice ones. Pretty sure he is influential to. But the team is so much more. And for all his experience, he is pretty static in their build up.
And their build up has been pretty fluent lately- without him. They have good quality in all parts of their play and parts of their team, and not reliant on Zlatan at all. That said, the squad is to thin to last. But they are on a good run.

You really seem quite passionate about the fact that some people on a Manchester United board aren't that knowledgeable about A.C. Milan's squad. Curious...

Absolutely. I also grew up watching those Milan sides with Baresi, Rijkaard, Gullit, and Van Basten. Remembering how they had Papin too but couldn’t always play him because of the three foreigner rule.

I remember like yesterday them demolishing Cryuff’s great Barca side that had Stoichkov and Romario up front, with Desailly and Savecevic absolutely imperious.

They were so good, that I spent much of my youth rooting for their cross city rivals Inter, as they underdogs. Inter always used to sign these dark horse type players, that were hugely talented and came from enigmatic backgrounds, I.e. leagues that had little or no TV coverage in England. I loved the side that contained Recoba and Pancev up front, with Bergkamp coming from deep. They weren’t successful at all, but I loved the magic of the players. And then they went and signed Ronaldo, which was huge; and I watched them every week. Roberto Carlos too. It felt fitting when Ince moved there.

Point was, the league was brilliant. Players like Baggio, Batistuta, Balbo, Zola, Asprilla, Signori, Vialli - world class players - spread across a host of top clubs. There was so much depth. Milan, Inter, Juventus, Roma, Lazio, Parma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, all having world class players. Somewhere along the line it just all went to shit.

Maybe it was the match fixing, or the lack of progressive thinking or an aggressive marketing strategy to secure high value TV deals. But it turned into a procession for one club - a club publicly convicted of cheating. Italy stopped producing world class players, and top players stopped going there, with a few isolated exceptions. Crowds dried up, and stadiums got knackered. I would love to see Serie A born again. The rich history that league has, the many great clubs. But it needs major investment.

All great journey’s start with a single step though, and what’s needed right now is someone like Milan to get back to the top and challenge for the title again. Properly. In fact, the league needs them to win it, because Juve’s endless wins have become meaningless. It’s just killing the league.

There was no match fixing, actually, as the trials found in the end no more culprits than Moggi and Giraudo, who then were just corrupting... themselves? It was a gigantic coup played to oust the two very managers that were killing the league and even threatening to bid for the club ownership as well. That’s the Italian way to make heads roll... just defame, make them undergo endless trial after endless trial, then clean their name 20 or 30 years later, once they are out and cannot threaten anybody any more.

Edit: Most recent example, a former interior minister (Mannino) defamed for being a mafioso and just made clean after 30 years. A joke. Source (main Italian newspaper repirting the final sentence): https://www.corriere.it/cronache/20...pm-dbf00682-3bbe-11eb-aad9-ba761f429210.shtml

Come on now, that’s just conspiratorial nonsense. There was overwhelming evidence, including wiretaps. It’s a dark, bleak chapter in the Club’s history. Best just to own the shame and move on.

I do not earn anything from this, and I could not care less. Italians take football as war and war as football, someone really relevant said 80 years ago.
