Again...they don't need a plan B, they need a goalkeeper who can make a save
Well you have more than one person disagreeing with you that the blame lies solely with their keeper.

They're bang in trouble surely now. Played Sheffield united, Burnley and West Brom all at home already, 0 wins.

Potter's a decent coach but way overrated based on a good showing in Sweden. Considering the flak Eddie Howe used to get on this forum even when he was finishing comfortably mid table at Bournemouth I think he gets off pretty lightly on here considering how savage this forum gets even with high achieving managers e.g. Hasenhuttl.

I actually think a problem is how their system is based a bit on the collective and they have no individual player capable of winning them games on their own like we had with Grealish last year and Palace with Zaha over last 3 years.
Yeah, I think there are a few questions now. Potter is obviously an interesting character and coach, but they should be doing better and have the players to be winning games like today.

I like their CB options and think Bissouma is a good presence in midfield. Trossard is a very good footballer and Connelly is a danger on his day.

A better GK and a striker would definitely make a difference, but he should be doing better than only 2 wins. It’s not good enough.

It isn't solely on the gk. They've been fairly unlucky and their finishing is an issue

But this a team that gave up 21 goals on 36 shots on target before today's game. Doesn't get any clearer than that honestly...

They don't play bad football, they created chances but their striker isn't clinical enough and they don't have good quality set piece taker for their tall defenders. At least under Potter, you can see the identity and what he's trying to do. More clinical striker like Ings or Calvert Lewin or Vardy would put them into much better position.

I'm interested to see how Sanchez works out as a keeper, he's certainly showing some promise, so I am not too worried on that front. The lack of goals and ruthlessness in the box is a much bigger concern for me. We play a lot of good football but somehow this season just never manage to finish those chances.

Lallana hasn't lived up to billing of creativity that was promised, though he has certainly had good moments and though Welbeck is saving us a bit at the moment, I'm not sure he is a 15 goal a season man anymore, though I would love to be proved wrong.

We have certainly had matches where we have been unlucky, but some performances have just not been good enough, yesterday was a great example, we had all the possession, we had the man advantage and we played most of the game at the right end of the pitch, ie in and around their box. We should have walked away 2-0 winners, 1-1 in that situation is just not good enough. But we have some fine players and I hope to see an improvement in the 2nd half of the season.

We need to work on finishing and set pieces, get those improved and it could make all the difference.

Just read that Maupay has scored the same amount of goals as Werner (4) so far this season and Werner has a worse minutes per goal ratio and lower shot accuracy, Aubameyang has only scored 3.

Makes me feel a bit better!

I might be missing something here but I don't understand why Potter is so keen to phase Ryan out. He's a decent keeper and seems quite reliable. Nothing against Sanchez but just seems an odd decision to me which could come back to bite them.

When you look at it they probably are underachieving. Lallana, Lamptey, Dunk, White & Bissouma have the makings of a decent starting XI

Not being clinical enough, 8 in the woodwork and 20 big chances missed, is the biggest problem for them this season. They play lovely football at times though.

All the talk of their nice footy has worn away. They're in real trouble.

@The Boy are you confident of avoiding relegation?

I have to say, I was full of optimism at the start of the season after some good performances v Chelsea and United. Unfortunately the team has regressed somewhat since - still playing relatively well (although not passing with the same accurary and urgency as earlier in the season), but the attackers at times look scared to be a bit more direct. We've had some very frustrating results, with the Sheffield United draw at the weekend arguably the most frustrating. Have to be beating West Brom, Sheffield United at home.

I think we have enough to stay up but need to find form soon - hope Potter can inject some urgency in our attacking play. And get Connolly working on his headers!

Don’t get too concerned lads! You have an easy 3 pointer coming up against Arsenal that should give you a cushion before the New Year!

I agree I started the season full of optimism genuinely thinking we might even hit the top 10. I spent the first few games thinking we were just unlucky, but our performances (apart from West Brom) have been decent though they are not as good as they were at the begnning of the season. I genuinely think we are still safe from relegation, it's early days yet and there are definitely worse teams than us in the relegation mix. I also think we are due a run of form at some point, if only Maupay, Connolly and Trossard can get a couple of goals the confidence will come flooding back. Maupay went nine games last season without scoring and then found a bit of form again. I hope it's only 8 this season and he hits form again against West Ham, I think we are easily good enough to beat them, then again I thought that abut Fulham and Sheffield Utd too!

Toothless. Getting rightly fully sucked into the relegation battle.

Making 6 changes at home vs Arsenal was bizarre and backfired, as expected.

They look terrible and didn’t really put arsenal defence under any pressure at all today. I’m starting to wonder more and more about Potter.

I would be concerned if I were a Brighton fan.

Bissouma looks really good though. Would be improvement on Matic and Pogba.

In my opinion, they are missing the forwards. They created lot of chances in first half but couldn't do enough to finish when in the box and it's been like that in most of their games this season.

That's my take on them (and Potter) too. They play pretty watchable stuff without being the light touches Bournemouth were but desperately lack quality in the final third.

People for some reason like to criticise managers who try and play football with teams like Brighton and turn on them as if it was somehow unbelievably arrogant for them to have tried to pass the ball, but I hope it works out for them. Far better to have managers like this in the league (and games like Brighton vs Villa) than managers like Allardyce, Nuno, and Mourinho whose only aim is to try and suck any enjoyment out of the sport.

Thought they had more then enough quality to be in a better position then they are. You look at their squad and some decent players in Gross/White/Maupay/Lallana. I hope they don't go down but no idea with them at the minute.

Maupay has 5 goals in 14 games so not amazing but not terrible either like the three below who lack any sort of poacher striker in final third. Welbeck scored a few recently aswell although everyone knows his limitations.

I look at the other end actually. We had the debate on Ryan the other week but Ben White, Lampety, Dunk, Webster and Bissouma infront are all massively rated and frequently linked to bigger clubs yet the collective unit is lacking....3 clean sheets all season and none against top half team.

Don't think Potter is a great organiser when they're out of possesion. Under Hughton they'd probably have 5-6 clean sheets by now.

They need a striker, a left-footed center back and a new left-wing back. They don't have any players in on loan so one of those spots they should be able to address with a loan from a big Prem team if they're clever and lucky. Sell Connolly to some championship team who rates him, Gross to a German team desperate for a chance creator and another player or two.

--------------------Striker-----------------------
----------Maupay-Trossard--------------
LWB--Bissouma-Lallana---Lamptey
--------LCB----Dunk-----White------------
------------------Sanchez---------------------

would win more than enough games to stay up with Potter or another manager. They just don't get enough play from the left-side (March, like Welbeck and Alzate and Webster should be a squad player getting minutes, not a nailed on starter) and they need a striker who can turn their width and possession into goals of his own and knockdowns for Maupay.

They were playing well in general for a good while, not really getting the rewards. I know people have pointed at their goalie and their finishing in this thread, which is of course part of that and it may be that they need better players to do those things. Still, all things being equal they could have perhaps expected more reward for their endeavours based on chances created/chances conceded for a while there.

What's a bit alarming now is that results didn't really go for them when they were playing quite well in general terms, and now performances have actually dropped off a bit too while they seem unable to pick up any flukey wins.

Very, very lucky there are somehow even worse teams in the league. Absolutely painful to watch and need 2 or 3 decent attacking / creative players as soon as possible or can easily finish in bottom three.

I think Potter has done a good job with them. They played well against Wolves, but I think people seem to have heightened expectations based on their performances earlier in the season. They have been severely punished by poor finishing in too many games this season that has put them in a difficult position. Based on performances, they should have beaten us, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Sheffield United. In those four games alone, they had 72 shots and only 15 on target. They also only managed 5 goals from all of those attempts.

Even against Arsenal, they had a lot of shots with a second-string team. In the end, Arsenal still has Aubameyang and Lacazette, who are far better than anything Brighton have.

Despite having some pretty average players, Potter has managed to get them playing some very good football. I hope they stay up as I think, mainly, it is the poor finishing that is reflecting poorly on Potter. I think if he had better players, his style of management would work really well.

Simply must be more scrutiny on their defence. As a unit it's simply poor and they're bottom 5 in the league for goals conceded now.

Conceded 5 more goals than Fulham and only one less than Sheffield united.

Not sure I agree with you on Potter. I saw a stat the other day that they've had one home win in a calendar year, that's pretty poor.

I don't think the football they play is that good really.

I like Lamptey and Bissouma seems to be doing well but the rest of them are bang average.

I don't know whether I'm seeing something different to everyone else but I can't understand why he's freezing out players like Ryan and Gross. They're not top quality but I think they're better than the players ahead of them. I'm not sure if there's been something going on behind the scenes, there's been one or two disciplinary problems with Maupay but he comes across as a bit of a twat anyway.

I agree that they bottle it far too much in front of goal but I think you're also overlooking how many daft goals they concede. It's a mentality problem at both ends which is why they get so many draws - they're decent players - but when it counts their forwards can't put the game to bed and their defence /midfield give away awful goals regularly.

For me it comes down to the coaching. He's trying to play a style that needs a class ball playing DM to work and/or ruthless finishers up front and he doesn't really have either of those things so he needs to adapt. There's still enough quality in that team to get results if the coach sorts himself out. Personally I'd sack him, I'm sure there's other people around who could do a better job. Even Slaven Bilic would get more out of them I think.

Gross is crap. I think he's alright at penalties but otherwise he does nothing but give the ball away whenever I've watched him.

The goals they conceded yesterday are a microcosm of their problems

10 shots conceded, 3 on target, a wondergoal, an own goal and a penalty, 3 goals allowed

As a team, they are one of the best defensively in the league. The individuals are letting them down again and again, plus a measure of sheer bad luck. They're basically the anti-tottenham (and this is particularly interesting because their advanced metrics points to them as performing pretty much as well as tottenham)

I agree Potter should maybe rethink things a bit at this point. They obviously lack individual quality in defence and it's sinking them, way more than their struggles in front of goal(which are also an issue, but not nearly as big)

Btw ryan was the worst gk in the league, while his replacement has been good. That's one obvious good move by Potter

It would be harsh to sack him, considering they aren't even in the relegation zone. What are the expectations for Brighton? Probably just hoping not to get relegated; they don't have the resources to do anything more than that. And possibly hoping to be a bit more entertaining, which they have been this season. Brighton was a boring team under Hughton, and I had no interest in watching them.

Fulham have two games in hand, but one of them is Tottenham, and they are far and away guaranteed from winning games. Their 5 game form is the same as Brighton.

There are only two relegation places left; Sheffield is gone already. West Brom is not going to gather many points; Newcastle is on awful form. It's not like Brighton are even losing many games at the moment, they have just drawn way too many. 4 draws and 1 loss in their last five games, and that loss was against Arsenal, who seem to be regaining a bit of form.

I do agree that the style needs better players, especially goalscorers, but I think he is doing that for his career's sake. If he played boring football and managed to stay up, I bet he would be pegged for the relegation manager mould and would never get a chance to move up the table. I think keeping them up whilst being somewhat attractive football with a low budget could land him a better job. Honestly, I think he would suit Southampton when Hassenhutl leaves.

They have only had two wins all season but really should have at least five. Poor finishing has had such a massive impact on their season so far, I find it difficult to blame Potter for it. They should really be at 23 points now and in a pretty healthy position. Their general play has been good in most games but is limited by the players.

Absolutely no chance of Potter being sacked even if we go down, which I think is unlikely.

Lots of media talk about us not scoring enough goals, though we're actually 13th in the epl in terms of goals scored. The problem is we're not scoring enough given the amount of chances we create.

Our defence is also an issue, Dunk, Webster and White are all good defenders, but there's always a good chance of a mistake and a goal against us as a result. Dan Burn is a good player and was playing for Wigan in league one 2 seasons ago so good on him for doing what he does for us, but though he has had good games he's not a natural left back and is suffering for the clubs failure to get someone in that position.

The Wolves result was definitely a point gained rather than two lost and seeing us come back from 3-1 down to draw was a real boost for the whole club. Connolly and Maupay both getting goals was a needed boost as well.

We have Man City, Liverpool and Spurs all in our next 5 games, the other two are Leeds and Fulham so could do with picking up some points there. It's going to be a tough season, but I think we have enough to stay up just again.

Really pleased with that peformance, we completely outplayed Spurs, which isn't something I ever thought I'd be able to write.

Mac Allister is improving every game and looking much more like the player we expected when he arrived along with Trossard and Maupay the front three are finally beginning to click and look dangerous, I think this is mainly down to a bit of consistency in them playing together, whereas earlier in the season Potter was swapping players in and out of our front line every game.

March is looking good down the left and Lamptey will soon be back to balance out the right hand side, Bissouma is looking awesome and though I fully expect him to go to Arsenal in the summer, he'll be a crucial part of the rest of this season. Gross is playing well and Izquierdo was finally back on the bench.

Good times for Albion supporters finally, bring on Anfield, we'll probably lose, but 7 points from the last 9 means we're not scared of anyone at the moment.

How well do you think Bissouma would fit into United’s midfield?

Always looked a tidy and robust player whenever I’ve seen him (admittedly not often at all) with an ability to play through the lines. Would probably end up costing 1/2 the fee Rice would command as well.

Him and Fred might be a midfield that lacks some stature and authority though.

Your team has been playing very good football. Maunpay works as hard as possible, always! He offers a lot, but I just feel pity for you guys that your team deserves a better forward than him in front of goal. He lacks some necessities to score goals for those chances. Many of those draws would have been wins if you have Lookman I think.

How do you think you’ll approach that game? Teams normally sit in against us but you look like a good footballing side based on what I saw today. Think you’ll try and go toe to toe?

Not sure that he's be the right player to play a double pivot alongside Fred. Bissouma is a good disruptor, is tidy with the ball nd can dribble the ball forward between the lines powerfully. He has a habit of drawing in opposition players and then playing the ball out safely to someone in the space he's created.

What he's missing at the moment is really top quality positioning, he can get caught out quite easily sometimes and he's not the player that will find that defence splitting pass. Don't get me wrong, I love him as a player, he is easy on the eye and a joy to watch sometimes but if you are looking for a quality defensive midfielder (which is how I see Rice) he's not quite the right player.

I think we'll definitely have a go and press high up the pitch as we did at the Amex in November. Actually I thought that was a really good game to watch and though you had a bit of makeshift midfield that day, we gave a you a good run for your money. This one will be even more interesting as you have found your feet again after a wobble and we are full of confidence with a more settled team. If I had to bet, of course I would back Liverpool, but I'm more confident of pulling something off this week than I was when we drew at the Amex.

If I had to bet, of course I would back Liverpool, but I'm more confident of pulling something off this week than I was when we drew at the Amex.
Agree this. I have watched several BHA games this season. Your team always wants to play your own football no matter what.
