We actually have no idea how quickly he will be integrated into the team if we end up signing him. He's a far bigger talent than Fred was according to regular observers of South American football and has already not looked out of place against the greatest footballer I've ever seen in my life time (Messi) whilst playing for his country. If we do sign him then I believe he will be given opportunities and if the early impressions are good then he will play more than people think.

And according to Andy Mitten via podcast, people he spoke to in Ukraine were surprised we would want to sign Fred because they thought he wasn't good enough to elevate us to the level the club aspired to be at.
I thought at the time City wanted him and this was when they were flying so if it was thought he was not good enough for us then that story must have been garbage.

I used to know lots about United targets - getting to the stage when I've never even heard their name before we are linked!

Don't think this is happening. The Ecuadorian journalists are piping up loudly but on this side the journalists been very reticent.

It all smells of a fishing expedition on behalf of the player's reps.

Isn't that what they're doing?
We could only hope. But there is no guarantee they actually are. It would be good to confirm transfers in the first day of the transfer window, instead of the last one ...

Under soil heating.
we always have this phase at the 11th hour when it all seems off and someone else is interested

probably the agent trying to squeak a few more Dollars out of Ed
At the risk of sounding ITK, I know an agent who has been dealing with United about a few youth players and he says United are tight as hell with contracts (quite the opposite to City). Wouldn’t surprise me if we are telling him to get his wage demands in check.

Sami Mokbel also reported earlier today that a deal for Caicedo was in the pipeline in his piece about our interest in Max Aarons.

Since when do English journalists know anything until they’re told?

the window isn’t open yet so there’s no rush to announce anything. Knowing united it’ll happen January 30th.

There is no requirement to announce anything until the work permit is ratified.

Bit ridiculous to sign a contract then be told you can’t have one yet!

Keane definitely started as B2B (Forest and a few years with United) then ended sitting deeper and instead of making 40 yards runs to get on the end of something, made 10-15 yard runs to break up opponents play. Excellent at both.

I've only seen the various compilation videos of Caicado and he looks like he has abilities to play both (no idea at what level as the two leagues seem vastly different in quality). Reads play, calm/doesn't seem to dive in, aggressive, (in a good way, strong), tackles so would fit a centre/Def Mid but drives forward, looks comfortable with ball at feet, can make quick/accurate passes, so could be B2B too.

With Bruno, Pogba (if he stays), DvdB and McT if he plays like he did v Leeds... I'd say we have more need for a strong Def Mid
Well in fairness - Keane was a lot of things in the beginning. In the season Forest got relegated he frequently played central defender. In the first few seasons at United, he was rightback a lot.

Too lazy to read thru the full thread, not sure it this has been mentioned before, but the highlight videos make me think Pogba 2.0.

A handful because of his physicality, seems quicker/faster than Pogba in the first 10 meters. Looks like he has a bit of a nasty streak too.

ok, Ecuadorian league at 19... clearly there is a question mark around the competition. Is 1st division Ecuador comparable to our reserves / u23s?

I wouldn't compare it to anything, young players develop at different rates. Jusy the fact that he's not only a stand out performer in the whole league, but he's also doing it on an international level is very promising.

Off topic I know but are you 100% sure of this. I’m a Keane fanatic and don’t remember him ever playing RB.

100% - it was the 94/95 season. United had Irwin, Bruce, Pallister and Parker in defence - but then Parker got injured and missed the entire season. Ferguson tried to use May at right-back but quickly realized he was awful (IFK away - OH GOD) - so he only used May in central defence when Bruce was missing -and instead moved Keane down to right back and played with McClair, Ince and Butt in central midfield. For instance - when we destroyed City 5-0, Keane was right-back

Then - from roughly february I think - Neville broke into the first-team at right-back - and Keane never played there again.

Thanks, total mental block on that but as I read your post I think I got some recall. I was in my early 20s then and was hitting life fairly hard so maybe some brain cells got nuked along the way.

There are no double gameweeks for anyone right now, it all kicks off from GW 18 onwards right?

I might just save my transfer in that case.

You get one free transfer per week up to a maximum of two. I've had a mare with City and Everton not playing this week.

Why would we need a new Pogba when the actual Pogba clearly hasn't worked out that well. Please don't be the new Pogba.
We need someone with his passing range anyway. That him out of our midfield and the biggest flaw our current midfielders have is passing range, ability to switch the play etc

He is Pogba + Kante combined in one, the very core of the WC winning team.

Which is, he could defend like Pogba, and attack like Kante.

Or the other way round, take your bet.

He played against some of the best teams in South America in Copa Libertadores and won the Copa SudAmericana (equivalent to the Europa League) in 2020. So it's difficult to make that type of analogy.

Would say 2 things, the first is that he comes from a club in Equador who is a special club on the South American context, they aren't one of the traditional big clubs from the Continent but they have been developing a lot of talent from Equador, their former coach Miguel Angel Ramirez is Spanish and worked at the Aspire Academy from Qatar before going there, now he left to Brazil and the next one who is going there to replace him is a guy named Renato Paiva who worked with some of the best young players Benfica produced on their Academy recently, so overall I would say they are a club who works very well at Youth Football Level on the South American context.

The second one is that one of the guys they developed there Plata went to Sporting but he is struggling to settle here, also related with the system we play, but he looks raw and lacks tatical fundamentals on the European context. Even if when he plays for Equador he has delivered. All in all, the notion I have is that they come with natural talent, but they have to be developed here, clearly the level in Equador isn't the same as Brazil or Argentina, and even this days coming directly from South America directly to England is very difficult, just need to look into Gabriel Jesus or Richarlison and the amount of time they needed, and this coming from Brazil.

With that said, United is working well regarding Youth Football scouting in South America, Pellistri and Caicedo are top talent in that context, and aren't as expensive as if you go into Brazil and try to sign a Gabriel Menino from Palmeiras or Kaio Jorge from Santos, even Famalicão (Mendes club in Portugal) this week signed Ugarte, a young talent from Uruguay, so this means United is changing their approach, worst case scenario it doesn't work but they don't loose a lot of money, if for every 3 signings they get 1 right they hit the Jackpot. I agree with the strategy, it's how the best clubs in Europe work.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

He was RB a few times between Parker and Neville (when May wasn't). Not a lot and not for the "first few seasons".

Edit. Thinking about it for a second, I think Irwin played some of the games at RB when Parker was injured too. With Sharpe playing LB.
