Thats was a proper match against a very good villa team. Both teams wanted to win. Really well played.

Pogba superb. AWB good bar that brain fart for their goal. David some great saves. Bruno everywhere. Thought we shaded it on clear chances created. Probably should have Buried a couple more clear chances. (Pogba shot in particular was an easy chance)

Really good team performance. We are looking on it atm.

have to say Grealish is a special player.

Have to say that Grealish was MoTM today.

I still thought we shaded the game overall; however, he showed once again he has the quality to play at the very highest level.

players on 250k a week unable to kick a football straight.
just lucky we're playing in a terrible league.
Joint top of the league, creating chances out of our holes, huge 3 points in a tight game against the only other team in the league on good form atm, and you want to post negativity? Absolute madness.

fecking hell. I've aged like ten years.

I know the whole "getting scrappy wins when not playing well" is what champions do but eventually we should start doing the whole "playing well" part, too. OK, that is a tad unfair: we did look good in attack, creating chances, should have scored more overall but once again, no control over the game whatsoever. End-to-end stuff, conceding possession way too cheaply.

We're not going to be in any title race in the end but it's definitely a far cry from the dreary start to this season or the absolutely dire first half of last season.

de Gea and Pogba coming back into form are big pluses for us. Important win, feeling good right now.

I (first) now realises what a great team AV is. Many quality players. That’s why I’m even more
Impressed of our team.

What a great match! AV gave us competition, but is was a deserved win.

Pogba, Shaw, AWB (except from the goal) and Bailly impressed me today.

Maybe our CB-situation is solved!

Huge, absolutely huge 3 points.
Excellent game overall I thought and especially by us. In the 1st half we were very good, had 4, 5 good chances. What I liked the most and that was the whole game is that we were quick from the blocks, active, agressive, running and all in all up for it from the start. In the 2nd half we were under the cosh a bit and conceded a cheap goal (could have one more if it wasnt for excellent DDG today) but after we went 2-1 we had about 4 chances of our own.

Villa was great and its fantastic to grab a win against such a good opponent. Graelish is out of this world, we had a lot of trouble containing him.

All in all we go on, we're now firmly in a title battla and I must say it feels fantastic. It's the 1st time really since sir Alex (happy birthday!) retired cause when we were 2nd with Jose we were never in a title battle really.

Great win. What a start to the new year. Very very happy. Pogba was very good, Ole 10 minutes too late with every decision.

Villa are a cracking side. That needs to be said. Dean Smith done a great job there

result is so important and it was a seriously stressful game. Some fantastic performances albeit all had some not so great moments too.

Good, tense, enjoyable.

AWB brain fart aside, I thought the full backs were excellent. Showed far more impetus than usual and was good to see.

Grealish comfortably best on field.
Bailly, Pogba, Fred and Bruno good.
Martial scored a good goal, then was Martial for the rest of the game, Rashford infuriating.
WTF was James on the pitch for, that was a very strange sub.
DDG , good again.

Tense game, but exciting. We are winning at home again and are winning tight games. Villa are a good side. See some are still moaning, will they ever be happy.

Brilliant if nervy win, but Villa are no mugs. They put 7 past Liverpool, any win would do today and we got it.

Anyone got a vid of THAT block?

Awesome. Great game of football. Loved the fight, the tactical fouls and to see the players fighting for one another all over the pitch

Played some really good stuff and should have scored more.

Got a bit nervy towards the end but the lads really put a shift in and got the result when the pressure was on which was the most pleasing thing.

Bailly, Shaw, Fred and Pogba were excellent.

To be fair, after he came on Matic literally just ran around kicking them.
In the moment when he does I cry out FFS and such, but at the same time - he’s our ****bag.

must be infuriating for opposition fans though.

I think that's the toughest game we have played all season. Villa were well up for, chased every ball and never stopped for a second.

We played well and had that bit more quality. We need to be better on the ball though, can't keep inviting teams onto us.

Lucky to win against a good villa side. Stupid goal to concede with multiple trying to stop the free kick instead of marking Grealish. McTominay was a disaster, totally zero quality today. Can't even put in a easy pass. Rushford should be substituted by Greenwood. I see chicken headless James on for the last 10 mins, can't understand why.

Good game. Deserved win. Their goal p*sses me off though. Too many players too worried about stopping them from playing it quick than picking up players. Both FB's were well out of position. AWB just standing around while the most dangerous player on the field is standing all by himself in an area that AWB should be marking him and Luike Shaw (who otherwise had a solid game) over in Bailley's position for some reason rather than marking his man. It was definitely an ugly goal. I thought Maguire was going to get the block but not to be. But other than that, it was a comfortable win. A couple of Hollywood saves for De Gea but other than Bailley's block at the end, I wasn't worried during this match. MOTM can be any of a number of players. I'd give it to Pogba if he wasn't such a pratt (plus that give away at the end rather than just going to the corner flag), Shaw was mostly solid, Marital had some good hold up play and finished his chance well. Rashford was mostly unplayable and did everything but score and Maguire was solid all match. But Bailley gets the nod for me for that block at the end of the match. He was solid through out but that block was the difference between 1 point and 3...

Fantastic way to kickstart a possible memorable year. This team really does have the potential makings of something very special.

3 pts. Good game as expected.
Villa have been very good all season and it was obvious they would be coming at us. Most of our players did well.
Rashford needs to take a good look at himself. He is doing wonderful things outside the football, but he needs to remember that what he does best is football. And he has a long career which could be so fruitful. I am not sure what is going on in his head nowadays.
He looks awful. Always offside. Always needing 5-6 chances to put one in. Always trying to make some Cristiano moves. Needs to get his focus and his game back asap.

Nervy but incredibly satisfying win against an in form Villa side to bring us level on points with Liverpool at least for a few days.

Grealish is an asshole but a top drawer player.

Was about time someone did. Oliver was blowing his whistle every time we went near them anyway so why not actually give them some rough treatment then?

Better finishing and this would have been an easy win. I have been Ole's critic, but he is doing something in the league. C'mon, United!
