Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

I do not think it a good idea to spend that much on Sancho. If the price is 50-55m, not bad but still expensive (see pulisic’s contribution to Chelsea as a reference, just good but not superb).
our front three MMA, in general play a little soft, not athletic enough, not tough enough. Rashford is better than the other two in that aspect. We should find a wing player as an alternative option, very athletic and tough on pressing high, someone like Raphinha. Sancho is very skillful but neither athletic enough nor tough enough.
We should just simply move on from him.

Yeah I would definitely prefer us to give Diallo a chance there and spend the money addressing our CB, DM and proper CF issues
Yeah if you're spending 30m or whatever the fee was on an 18 year old wonderkid then you'd have to think in a couple of years time he should be making that spot his own, so it raises the real need for Sancho.

Still think we missed a trick by not looking for a Perisic type deal like Bayern did while waiting to sign Sane. Having said that, not many right wingers out there available like that. Next summer's transfer window is huge, if we get it right then you have to believe we're well placed to challenge.

I was against signing Sancho but my argument was that I didnt want him to stunt Greenwood's growth so I was only half right.
Not signing him was the right decision but Greenwood is no RW anyway and it wouldnt impact his growth in any way.

He is most likely sulking now and therefore going through a rough patch. Dortmund should have sold. Strike when the iron is hot as they say. They were never going to get more money for him and what theyre left with is a player whose head has been turned.
They played hard ball and they will pay for it literally, will cost them tens of millions.

Loving this . They aren't getting anything more than 60m next summer.

Seeing as it might be a rival who end up getting him for a bargain price I can't get too much glee out of Dortmund missing out on money.
The "bargain" price will still be 60m.

Based on his performances outside his comfort zone, that is still a lot of money.

He was never this slam dunk signing people were making him out to be in the summer.

I’m not too sure who else would be in the running. Covid has affected a lot of top clubs. With it looking like no fans will be back I can’t see massive spending - especially since many used their credit line to buy players last summer.

Whatever happens I think Dortmund are going to regret not selling last summer. I just don’t see them getting anywhere near what their asking price is. Especially given his form this season.

If he continue this kind of form until end of season, I wouldn’t offer more than 50m for him, seriously.

If he is available in winter though, I think it still worth to put a 60m bid for him.

Although I’d prefer to see how well Diallo develops here first. So there’s no rush for going for Sancho again so soon.

Good lad playing bad so we will get him cheaper. The way Corona is going in Germany at the moment means Dortmund will feel the financial pressure even more as well.

I'd guess 85-90M would be a fair price.

Him being bad is being a bit blown out of proportion tbh.

Sure he isn't doing great in the league but he is doing class in the CL and the cups.

Averaging like 0.7 g/a in all comps. So not bad at all really

Do you still see us going back for him in the summer then, can't help feeling a starter DM & CB is more important.

I doubt we will because Dortmund wont drop the price much and with this Narrative that he is doing rubbish we will look stupid to buy him.

That said I still reckon we will live to regret it. Unless Diallo turn out to be amazing from the get go.

IF we got Grealish i could live with it though. Not the same position or anything but its clear we would not buy both.

I still want this move done, our attacking balance is comical. Everything comes down the left.

If we off load Dalot, Jones, Rojo, Mata?, Matic?, Bailly, Lingard, and Andreas.

Bring in Sancho, Caicedo, and a CB who can compete to be a starter and ill be happy.

I am not sure if Dortmund would go down to ~ €60mm next summer but I suspect they may trade for €80-90mm. I do think Sancho will regain some of his form at some point during the season.

The question then is if we buy him for that much or find another right sided forward for €50-60mm. Antony (query if Ajax would sell so soon), Neres (need to see if he regains his best form after injury) and Oyarzabal (doesn’t play RW but is left footed) would be some of my picks.

So we are still in for the Sancho deal. Now let us piss Dortmund with 60m offer and eventually they will settle for something around 70m to 80m.

The most disgusting thing about that saga was how not just dortmund fans, but in general German football fans, decided to shit on United like we were an irrelevant noname club with money who wanted to rob The noble Dortmund football club, famed of yore.

They jeered us as Dortmund made statements after statements and made it obvious that they would not negotiate. Our fans were so sold on Sancho that they couldn’t see through the fog. And that piled on the pressure On the club. I am glad we didn’t budge. Sancho isn’t worth 120, he isn’t even worth 100. He’s worth about 60-80 even when counting the price inflation which Dortmund would be lucky to get now.

So yes, Dortmund messed up.a publicly traded company devaluating their prime asset by tens of millions, in time for global financial hardships, should have consequences for the executives of the said company.

They ll bite your hand off for that much. The buzz around Sancho is dead.

It's great we didn't get him for 120M and we stood our ground, changing our reputation from paying stupid money and be rushed into to making sensible deals and calculated deals. I still think he will be great addition and I still hope we go for him soon and our RW is set for years with him, Diallo, and Pellestri

Thought Romano said Sancho was disappointed with how we handled the situation last summer and we'd essentially have to start from scratch if we wanted to convince him to join. I can't see us going back in for him, in all honesty.

Bit silly to take a dailymail article too seriously. Never even heard of the journalist who wrote the article.

I'm sure we'd love both of them.
I linked the wrong one looking at it. Its quoting the Sunday Mirror, Steve Bates

Bates is reporting that some at the the club feel they dodged a bullet due to the transfer fee being sought by BVB.

I am glad that we didn't buy Sancho. It would be the worst kind of bussiness. I still rate him and would be happy to see him here }we still need a prope RW) but not for 100M. To be honest 60M sounds like a fair price right now. Dortmund wasted an opportunity last summer. We are not desperate and doing quite well. I feel that we need CB and CDM more anyway. If th price is around 60M then go for it. I would not pay more, maybe +10/20M in add-ons.

Right now the safest transfer is buy Grealish for LW and make Rashford our RW. He has looked grand out there.

Then with Pogba going buy a DM with a very good passing range as that is what our midfield lacks when Pogba is not in it.

Would still be happy if we got Sancho though but since Grealish is tearing up the league he is the safer pick.

Make no mistake about it. Sancho get his move to a huge club very soon and will tear it up there instead of with us.

My opinion is that he is worth every penny of the figures reported.

I also think with Mata and Lingard probably off this summer, maybe Pogba too and probably next year Matic and Cavani as well. We have some positions to fill.

Since Covid what has been the highest transfer fee paid for a player? (excluding Chelsea due to a there transfer ban)

The days for huge fees should be history, Pogba, Neymar and Mbappe are all in the last years of their contracts so they won't be moving for huge fees. Plus every club is skint so Sancho after a poor season will not be fetching anywhere near the transfer fees quoted last season, which were too high even then...a year on and its even more ridiculous to think a player could be worth 100 million in the current climate.

I agree with this. And I also think getting a real RW will give us much better balance and will get better out of AWB.
