I didn't mind his style of play against the bigger clubs and we have played some great football at times this season, but Palace, Leicester and Wolves was pretty dire. Leeds was an improvement and hope he builds on it. I don't mind surrendering the ball as long as it comes with an outcome.

You have to remember we are 4 points off top in a season where anything can happen so it would be increadbaly stupid to be calling for his head.
I do sense a deja vu as we’ve been through the highs and lows of Jose. Same questions asked when he managed us etc. Didn’t end well, and don’t think it will with you guys. However I’m confident he will get you a trophy as Jose’s ego ensures that he wins a trophy.

Yeah I think anybody above burnley sacking their manager right now would be crazy.
Guessing top4 as a minimum is expectation?

Top 4 and a cup would get most Spurs fans very happy even if the football is shite.
What about a trophy and no top4 or top4 and no trophy playing like this?

 I've no idea mate. Getting into seriously complicated hypotheticals here!
Sorry, should simplify. What about a late charge for the title but eventually falling off a cliff into fifth while playing out from the back or top 2 but playing like the cousin marriage offspring of Wimbledon 88?

If we don't get top 4 I'll be very unhappy. That's our main objective this season. If he can also win a cup then that would be an amazing season for us. Cup and no top 4 would be rubbish unless it's the euro league and it gets us into champions League next year but even then it's the league that's most important.

Do you know what would be perfect? Jose pipping Ole to the title on the last day with Kane scoring the winning penalty as Maguire handles it in the box while tackling Luke Shaw. Jose post match comes on and says "Penalties are just as important as goals" , he looks over at the camera, he winks and his teeth sparkle as he holds up one finger to the camera.

THIS IS A JOKE

Still think Spurs are too reliant on Son and Kane for goals. They need another player or two to start chipping in, Ndombele has started to look the goods the little bit of Spurs I have seen. Always hard to get the ball off him without drawing a foul, some driving runs through midfield and has a shot on him as well. A bit more fitness and conditioning and I think Spurs will have themselves quite a player.

Playing the kind of football Jose does he needs results, it is as simple as that. No one wants to watch 6 across the back defending for 80minutes at home unless it is netting you results and/or trophies. Spurs were too passive in a couple of games recently that cost them points. There is a time and a place for defensive play, away at the Allianz Arena or the Bernebeu, sure, absolutely. At home to Leicester? Im not even sure what Spurs were doing.

Spurs scheduled game (I think with Villa) has been postponed because of Covid, so their game with Fulham has been put in its place. Scott Parker has been saying its not fair because they havent had any time to prepare, and that Spurs already knew they had a game midweek so chose a lineup at the weekend with a midweek game as well in mind, whereas Fulham would have had a week between games so chose a stronger team with that in mind.

So basically Jose is saying if Fulham dont play their strongest lineup because their players played at the weekend, then we can feel sorry for them.

I found it odd reading those images from left to right somehow. Not used to seeing line ups oriented that way.

I think its the only way to fit them in if trying to do a twitter post - otherwise gets cut off.

The take on that game from Real is absurd (saying this was the beggining of Mourinho's demise). That was in his first year there and Real turned the tables and started beating Barcelona consistently after that.
His aggressive, low block Real Madrid with explosive pace in the counter attack was designed to beat that wonderteam Barcelona had and it excelled at that once fully set up, saying this is the beginning of the end for him is just wrong.

The Chelsea one, by virtue of me watching much more English football than anything else.

I think of Damien Duff in that particular Chelsea team. My memory is more him and Robben either side of Drogba with lots of pace, but in reality Joe Cole was a firm fixture and if we go off appearances it would be Robben who would be most likely to lose out if bringing Duff in. Robben's absences were probably often through injury though from what I remember. So that probably is right but I'd always think of Duff for whatever reason.

Anyway from that season alone:
Cole 34 league appearances, 48 altogether
Duff 28/40
Robben 28/40

04/05 + 05/06 (the 2 seasons all 3 were at the club together)
Cole 61/93
Duff 58/88
Robben 46/69

I personally think he benefitted from Barca coming to the end of their cycle rather than him having solved Barca as a problem.

That’s not to say his low block wasn’t effective to a large degree but the Inter side did it in a more stylish way and their first leg win was tactically outstanding.

For me it was a turning point as post that era with Madrid, he was good but he was never a Champions League threat ever again. So it does mark the beginning of his downfall as an elite elite manager. His level dropped since then albeit still has won league titles.

Spurs were only playing against Marine - so they would have rested many of their 1st XI regardless.

Fulham's line-up at the weekend was also nowhere near their strongest, don't know where this idea comes from that they played anywhere close to their 1st 11.

Need Spurs to win for 250 quid so rare COYS from me tonight.

Even though Fulham have improved recently hopefully it will be easy Leeds style win tonight. Probably not though with my betting history.

You can say that of his third year in Real, not the first.
He joined Real with Barça that in the previous 2 years only lost 2 titles: a copa del rey to Seville (irrelevant) and the CL to Mourinho itself. And Barça ended up winning the league and CL again with Mou in Real.
It was nowhere in the end of their cycle.
His first games vs Barça were atrocious, but that is kinda "normal" when you have one of the best teams of all time vs a team that were in process of massive change in style.

After that he won a token copa del rey in his first year and went on to win the league (best ever league performance in Spain) and lose the CL semis on penalties. This is no downfall at all and people were expecting Real to continue to be ruthless.
They imploded instead and this is when people lost faith in him - based mostly on a weird public perception of him as finished (he had been champion the year before and lost again in the CL semis, being 2nd in la liga). Barça meanwhile was good enough to win the league with the manager absent for half the season.

After Real Mourinho didn't get any job that was simple and with expectation of easy league titles: Chelsea, Man Utd, Tottenham, none of them were expected to win the title easily.
He was champion with Chelsea then another abrupt unexpected fallout made his 3rd season collapse. Man Utd was a team fighting for top 4 and still is (let's see if this year they can keep challenging for the title) while Tottenham is a team almost winning but without any title since 2008.
So his widely announced downfall is kinda relative given the state of the teams he has managed since.

100%. When i saw Scott Parker on SSN moaning about it I just thought he was a dick and basically telling the world that Spurs will win the game, but its not his fault. Proper small club mentality, and in a Covid season with 2 cup competitions most Prem teams would expect a Saturday-Wednesday run a few times in the season.

There is a reason why he was unable to turn around those teams with the same dynamism as he once was able to with Porto and Inter. He simply isn’t as good as he once was and has declined in a lot of areas of management.

Does it affect his overall greatness? Not really we all will remember what a fantastic manager he was at his peak but I think it’s indisputable that he was never really the same man Post Madrid and whilst he has had flashes of his old self and managed to secure the EPL for instance - on eye test and also based on his record in UCL .. he hasn’t been able to produce teams with the same level of quality and dynamism as in the 2000’s.

This also means that he isn’t as attractive to the biggest clubs or a surefire hire - then again you could just argue he is running out of elite options as he’s managed a number of clubs.

Not sure about your Madrid points - no one is questioning whether he did well there, I think most people would agree that he was in a difficult situation against arguably the best club side ever but I think the tenure there burnt him out in the long term and he lost himself in the process.

Old Jose sides may have been pragmatic but there was a precision and fluidity about them, kind of like Atletico at their best under Simeone and an insane togetherness. They looked indestructible. He hasn’t been able to produce a side like that for a decade now.

Costing me 250 quid now. :(

Seriously that's Palace, Wolves and Fulham whrere Spurs have stunk the place out at 1 up. Post match Mourinho interview will be interesting. He claimed after the Wolves game he wasn't ordering the players to do this yet the same has happened 10 days later.
