It looks like a foul but it also looks like a breeze could knock down pogba.
I've seen Man Utd players try to stay on their feet in situations like that countless of times and not be awarded anything. It's a refereeing problem, it truly is, but it's weird how nobody cares until those situations happens to us and not against us. Other teams don't try to stay on their feet and they get rewarded for it by refs, it's about time we go down more easily. Tired of United being on the receiving end of those decisions and with VAR, it's more unlikely that refs can get away with weird subconscious decisions.

As angering as it could be, I agree that it's funny how pathetic these grown men, old men, are.. Trying to do their bit to make refs think twice before they give us anything, or else they'll be ridiculed on their show. I mean these shows are not 100% pre scripted like a sitcom but if it wasn't live tv, it would be. It's often semi-scripted not only by basic talking points but actual narratives to cover, probably based on information and statistics supplied from the corresponding newspaper outlet of that station.

It's quite telling when you see Nigel De Jong struggling to balance his own opinion in a way that fits with the narrative that he is supposed to continue hammering down on. Just look at him, saying 'anything is unlikely to be overturned by VAR when it comes to United' then looks for a pat on the back from the host with the most  It's really weird and funny, but also scary when you know that United is always being made an example of in these sorts of situations where refs are terrible on purpose against us following days like that, just to avoid being targeted and lambasted by the media for trying to do their job properly.

Saw this just.... I thought penalty from angles on TV but think this shows defender step across Pogba and knock Pogba's left leg into his right?

(Don't recall TV showing this one?)

Wow why wasn’t this angle shown during the game or to Villa’s manager?

Exactly, people are weird. He clipped his legs, it's foul every time. Probably a lot better pens to argue about.
https://www.skysports.com/watch/vid...9134/ref-watch-right-to-award-man-utd-penalty

I give up......you’ve now got a ref being purposely non committal ‘He thinks he’s seen a tangle of legs’......he hasn’t thought that it’s clear to see. ‘That causes Pogba to trip himself up’ .....Wtf does that mean? If I kick someone’s foot on to their other foot then they’ve tripped themselves up? and two Villa fans adding to the agenda. ‘What’s Luiz supposed to do?’.......Not get too tight and grapple with an attacker that’s the wrong side of him. FFS I’m going to look for the next one of these penalties to be given and see if the same is said then.

Haven’t seen the full show, I hope they talked about Mings.

It is baffling that anybody is disputing the Pogba penalty decision.

He gets his leg clipped which results in Pogba's leg clipping his other leg. The defender gets nothing of the ball, and clips Pogba

It's a stonewall penalty. People asking why he didn't stay up... Come off it! How on earth is he supposed to stay up when he's running full pace and gets illegally tripped from behind?

Such a twitter/social media/media agenda against him. He played well, won us a penalty because the defender performed an illegal foul on the football pitch.

Sorry Pogba, you're not allowed to be fouled. Everybody else can get fouled, but not you son.

Why would Pogba try to stay up?
People keep saying how we are weak, a nice team and when one of our players goes down, they go down easily... when Harry Kane does it its "clever"

Every team gets decisions against them or for them throughout the season. We may have had 2/3 soft penalties but so has alot of other teams.

Some that haven't gone our way.. Arsenal last season and Chelsea this.

The worst example this season was the Spurs game with Martial's red card, I lost count after this instance of players behaving way worse than him and referees letting them off the hook without even a warning.

Hilarious how we got a penalty given for a foul in the box while Spurs got one given after a player was fouled outside the box and can you guess which one caused a meltdown?

Also imagine the outcry had Pogba elbowed and bloodied Mings in the box instead of the opposite...

Slowly starting to feel like we're almost back give the copious amounts of rival tears anytime we keep picking up points

It has happened numerous times, I agree. We've seen slaps to the face, elbows thrown etc. We know there is a lack of consistency applied, but it becomes dangerous when it's only pointed out in regards to us, because of the narratives and power of media outlets like these. They have free platform to hammer down topics until we're sick of them. Like Martial getting a red there can be excused even when in other games, the rule might be applied differently. That can happen, however, if Martial escapes that one, a lot would be made of it. A lot. He could probably face a retrospective ban at worst. However, nothing is made of it in the media when Mings elbow Pogba so there is no cause for action by anyone despite the obvious infringement. It's like it never happened. Which is wrong, because it means that not only decisions, but punishment overall can be different, based entirely on something else than the rules of the game which is dangerous to the sport in my opinion.

I think VAR has given us more penalties than usual because the natural narrative would be to not give United anything. VAR has taken some of the instinctual refereeing out of the game, and it's better for it.

Realistically, when we see how far people in position with power is willing to go to create a discrepancy between reality and perception rooted in opposition fan-bias. When you have pundits trying to create a unfair advantage towards United by putting every penalty decision under the microscope while ignoring every other context or relative information towards the claim that somehow we're given an advantage by getting undeserved penalties. It's bitterness masquerading as truth, but the fact is these types of narratives have an effect on the game.

The abu-media is real, and truth be told we have to accept that if we're not going to feck ourselves. Watch the video where Vardy tricks the ref into giving a penalty by first committing a foul and then diving. Everyone who has watched football can agree that what Vardy did isn't something that should be credited, but yet the narrative is so deeply rooted in anti-united bias that perception tells the narrator that Vardy did the right thing and that Rafael is rash. You have fans of Man Utd who actually believe that because they say so, and then you have all the other rival fans knowingly just laughing because it's United and even a wrong call is "deserved". 'Nothing good should happen to Man Utd', and if you think about that phrase while people talk and a red light flashes in front of you, you know the deal.
I've always felt that Rafael-Vardy incident is one of the biggest miscarriages of footballing justice that I have ever seen.

Watching that back... That is absolutely awful refereeing.

22 penalties last season, and Football365 have analyzed them all. They claim that 5 of the 22 shouldn't been awarded.

Manchester United 1-0 Leicester
Norwich 1-3 Manchester United
Chelsea 1-2 Manchester United
Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham
Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester United

I think the one against Leiceister is stonewall and that one against Chelsea was soft, but still a penalty. So if we think that 3 of 22 last wasn't penalties, that means that 13,64 per cent of our penalties last season shouldn't been awarded.

We've had 11 penalties this season, and I think that the one against Newcastle and Leipzig shouldn't been awarded. But the rest of them are pretty much stonewall.
I looked at every single one - and 2 were incorrect without a doubt - Villa and Norwich (the James one) - a few were soft, but not incorrect. The majority were no question about it

Richard Keys and Craig Burnley are two clueless idiots with a lot of hate for Man United.
Burley is the worst - agreed. However I quite like Don Hutchison and Shaka Hislop - they are both quite good and balanced

The media doesn't represent everybody. It's not really about bias either. Negative stories about certain clubs garner more interest than others. United, Real and Barca are the three teams i've seen recieve just as much negative headlines when their bad as the positive headlines they receive when they're successful. Most other clubs get forgotten about or aren't really concentrated on ( with Arsenal being an exception). However, just like they don't give a teams like City, Chelsea or Spurs headlines when they're bad, the headlines when they are great are also reduced. Most of the praise or negativity usually goes to a massive figure like Pep or Mourinho rather than the clubs.

2 astonishing decisions in about 3 seconds. The foul on Rafael that sends him flying is even worse than the penalty call, full arm extension, he is not even subtle about it, to go from allowing that level of force to awarding a pen for non existent contact is baffling.

 I have excuses, a list of them but I'll leave it in my pocket after I read a few out loud because as I said, no excuses.

Klopp has made a habit of talking about us hasn't he. I think he has a shade of Rafa to him. I seem to remember he thought we were getting too many penalties under Van Gaal as well. I might be remembering that wrong but I'm sure he has complained about United in a unrelated note sort of way to excuse a loss, many times.

Michael Owen chatting pure rubbish and bias on matchday extra right now.

Falling on his sword to drum up Lampard while diminishing what Ole's done and quite literally using arguments he used against him weeks ago to prop up Lampard to say he's doing a better job.

Also still thinks that Citeh are the only real challanger to Liverpool

City beat Chelsea 3-1 and they are back and best team in the league again. Same score that Chelsea lost to Arsenal by.

We go joint top and its like no one cared or thinks its an achievement.

i hope we do win the title this year, it will be the sweetest one in my lifetime.

I’ll happily take being written off for the title by the media. Our squads relatively young and inexperienced, keeping the pressure off by being the underdog suits us.

Loving it. Wish we'd get much more soft penalties and score some dodgy late goals. I missed their saltiness.

In a crowded field, Owen does well to be one of the worst pundits.

The hypocrisy about Ole/Lampard/Arteta is an interesting watch. It all shows either bias against United or bias against United in their over-analysis of us. It's not surprising they'll hold both those "New young" managers to a different set of standards and a different level of analysis.
The current vibe seems to be "Where did United come from? They don't deserve to be there". Previously it was "Inconsistent United" - which is of course true, we were (are?!). For us, United fans, we know we were - no issues with that. But to pundits, you just need to take one look at the PL to see that no-one was consistent! Liverpool were the only team with any consistency, but that applied more to results than performances. But you end up with the "you don't know which United you're going to get" goes a long way, and it's OK for us to say it, but that would apply to loads of other teams too & you didn't hear that from pundits much (or at all?). At the time I remember thinking that in this season of inconsistency, you can probably win it by just being the least inconsistent, rather than striving for levels of steamroller consistency

If I'm honest, I generally switch off or just mentally switch off when half of the pundits are pontificating. One or two bring something to the discussion, but so often they don't appear even to have really done their homework. Like they often just accept the lazy assessments on teams/form & appear to just be rehashing someone else's opinion.

I've heard awful lazy biased sh*te from paid pundits & commentators about us and penalties and also incidents like the Pogba/Luiz penalty - there's just no excuse for that. These characters get paid good money, get to watch tonnes of free football & get to live a nice life off the back of the sort of analysis that's below the levels you'd get from "some bloke down the pub". It usually just comes down to who I like for me - I've enjoyed Ally McCoist recently, as everyone seems to. Plus he seemed really even-handed about us. Micah Richards seems like a nice bloke, comes over as likeable & is pretty transparent in being an ex-pro giving some insights, he manages to have a proper laugh too which is great. They don't all need to be dry tactical pundits. Just being authentic is fine.

I'm amazed that Keane doesn't realise he's set up as a Father Jack figure who you prod & get something funny/outrageous. He's reasonably savvy with the media, or so I thought.

Its been pretty weird seeing the reaction in terms of title race since Liverpool's game yesterday. Its almost as some in media have forgotten we're level on points on top there with a game in hand. It was funny when Ogden said, completely ignoring United, that Liverpool and City are the only teams capable of going on a 8-9 game unbeaten run so they are title contenders. We're on a 10 game run btw.

Well let's have the last laugh then when we beat Liverpool and go on to win the league. Out of all the 'experts' on there Owen ought to think which team rescued him when no one else wanted him and got him medals

I love all this, to a point because they have all pressed the panic button early with there views, this I've heard over and over again, and it's the Manner of it . They know theres been a change they know they've seen a difference , but there to much of cnuts to admit it. Just carry on winning games no matter what or how it will drive them nuts.

How glorious would it be to win at Anfield off a Bruno penalty in a few weeks

The amount of rival tears shed would be absolutely delicious and enough to fill a river with :drool:

and let it be a dodgy one after the final whistle. And to add more salt to the wound, Bruno does a triple hop before tucking in the penalty.
