One thing I’m curious of, away from the actual violence, the final confirmation of the electoral votes was 93-7 I believe?

In prior general election results, has it ever been less than unanimous?

2000 maybe?
Apparently in 2005 some Democrats tried to block certification of Bush’s re-election. John Kerry (the Democratic candidate who lost) distanced himself from it.

"Textbook Terrorism"
Maybe this nation finally needs to codify some actual laws against domestic terrorism.

If we keep being unable to define domestic terrorism, we will never be able to eradicate it.

But this would tickle right up against re-examining & altering the privilege us white folk have in this country. The political appetite for this would be slim at best, unfortunately.

DC police just said only 68 people have been arrested so far.. astounding how it is so low.

but they are actively looking for more numerous "persons on interests"
Mostly curfew violators so far.

That means that the majority was arrested nowhere near the Capitol itself.

The 93 - 7 vote you're referring to was for Pennsylvania's certification via the Senate. It along with Arizona were the only two that had objection to in the senate. Arizona's was 93-3.
Last time this occurred was 05 when dems disputed Ohio electoral votes on the basis or voter suppression.

Vote was 74-1.

Only other time this has happened was in the modern era was in 60s

DC police has no authority over Federal property. It's the Capitol Police and Congress who controls it.
The NG is under DOD. I think it's a huge failure of The Capitol Police who is in charge. They have to answer a lot of questions.
And, by law, they are designed not to do so. No one can even do FOIA requests for information on the group.

They are basically a black hole, virtually non-transparent.

Can anyone explain to me, why are there calls to impeach Trump at this point? Is it just so that it taints his legacy?

I'm not questioning whether or not he should be ousted from office, but surely the obvious and presumably only option is to hang tight for like two weeks or whatever it is until he's just gone anyway?

Is the worry that he might cause so much destruction in the meantime? I'd argue impeachment would add more fuel to the fire for the far right and cause more violence than just hanging in and waiting until his time is up.

Am I missing something?
Could keep him from ever running for federal office again.

The stupidity is delicious.

In their haste to stick it to the man, they have refused to wear the masks that might have protected them from prosecution. I wonder if we tried telling them that by carrying guns at all times, they were somehow saving the lives of immigrants, might we solve the gun problem as well?

My theory on this is that feet on the floor was left intentionally light and was probably a selection of Trump sycophants who knew what was coming. It was only when the security were deployed by external actors the force increased.

Remember that it was one of the most critical days in the American democracy calendar with all of congress present yet somehow they didn't have enough police present and intelligence somehow missed thousands of angry rednecks organising a protest?

The whole thing was by design, it might sound like a conspiracy but it’s Occam‘s razor. I’d love for someone to come up with a better explanation as to why they were so understaffed, underprepared, so slow to react and so accommodating when there was so much at stake.

Could you imagine the Houses of Parliament being over run like that?
Good point, Ive come to the same conclusion.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
On the plus side, we are witnessing the further fracturing of the Republican Party.

That 45% is the part of the GOP that’s become the Q-Trump Party
Yes, that was my second thought as well, right after "eek". I know this combines strongly and somewhat agree/oppose, but I imagine there has to be a bit of a gulf between people who support this and oppose it.

That was the vote to the objection of the Pennsylvania vote.

In 2004 Barbara Boxer objected to the Republican win in Ohio and that objection was defeated by something like 94-1 in the Senate.

The overall electoral vote wasn't subject to a vote as such.

Or that 45% stay in, primary the shit out of everybody they consider RINOs, make sure their MAGA candidate wins the presidential primaries, and the rest of Republicans dutifully vote for that candidate anyway, because guns and abortion.

They will eat themselves in normal time and it’s no doubt will be amusing to watch, but when a libtard pinko commie ‘murican hating socialist is on the ballot, they will vote for the same guy without fail.

Christ almighty, what complete idiocy in a post.

Poor pack a day smoker who dies of lung cancer, right? What a tragedy, completely out of left field, right?

Poor rioter who is in intensive care for falling off of a scaffold during a riot, right? What a tragedy, who could many feel sorry for such a patriot, right?

Mindblowing.

You pedants sure are something else.

Did you light a candle for the scaffolding idiot to place alongside the candle you lit for the mensa who tried to innocently exercise her right to climb through just one window?
