He’s playing CM next to Scott so hope to see him dictate the game for us!
I'd love for you to be right but I don't think he's the kind of player that will do that. How I long for a Carrick type player in this team.

I'm happy he is starting but I've got to be honest..

Apparently he has the most appearances for Ajax as a CM but I felt his best performances came as a late in the box goal scoring midfielder.

Watching Lingard getting the chance to play that role before Van De Beek doesnt really give me hope that he was Ole's signing made on the 31st of August deadline day.

I actually enjoy watching the lad play as a neutral person too weirdly even if he isnt that great for us.

Why does he have the right to be annoyed haha
Of course Donny has a right to be annoyed. And Ole has every right to play or not play Donny as he sees fit.

He’s now getting garbage minutes and starts with only fringe players. It’s hard to imagine that this is what he dreamed of, but it is what it is.

Team is top the league and he hasn't played well when he has played... My god people talk about ole being ruthless , imagine he played worse players when we have a chance of winning the league. Great management in the fave of pressure to play Donny.

I'm a big Donny fan. I just don't believe everything in papers. He is playing for the current top team in the toughest league, and the players are way outperforming. He should get a grip and try play well today

He’s the type that loves to pass and move and going sideways, backwards isn’t the worst thing in the world as a midfielder to keep the ball moving. Ball retention is what he’s good at usually so that helps when being pressed too.

I think the main problem for Donny is everytime he gets a chance, he's playing with the B-team, where first touches, vision and overall team play is like a freaking city in Russia (not existing). How's he gonna perform if his passing isn't ending up with players who can make it work?
Indeed, this was a problem again tonight. He did well and some moments really well, like the combo with Mata. But the problem is that he's being ignored when he makes a run and his biggest quality(the combination play) requires teammates who can actually pass. He's never really gonna shine in B-teams.

Meh performance. He’s not going to break into our starting 11 off that.

Very tidy, seldom gave the ball away, but I don't really think he has the range of passing to excel in deep midfield if he is not playing in a full on possession based team. Not seeing much more than a solid squad option there at the moment, which is ok, but hoped for more.

Needs to play with better players around him...anytime he’s on it’s like he playing with the reserve team...decent performance though

Agree with that. Thats not dictating the game though.

In the end, typical Donny performance. Some really nice touches but largely forgettable.

He played exactly how he plays every game, which is to say perfectly passable but nothing amazing.

If he wasn't Dutch and new I think people would be more critical but as it stands I won't make that claim :)

Admittedly I missed the first half but based on the 2nd half and his last performances, I'm slightly getting worried.
Still, 1st season and all that.

He keeps passing backwards.

Did nothing. He's really a nothing player unfortunately. I hope he proves me wrong but my excitement from seeing him after his debut against Palace has went down the toilet pretty quickly.

He really, really does nothing to even make me evaluate him properly. He's just there, I guess.

Everyone likes to pass and move.

He looks very out of sync with the rest of our team. Something that can change over time, but right now I get why he’s not starting often.

He needs to be more in the opposition box as he has a great eye for goal and excels at attacking combinations. He can do the deeper midfield role but he's just going to be adequate there.

I think he needs to be surrounded by players who are ballers to get the best out of him . Lingard and James are not those players

I can't shake this nagging feeling that I've played with hundreds of players just like Donny, who actually don't offer you a lot, don't work very hard but think they're the best players in the world so they overcompensate by making every single pass a backheel or flick. When they come off it does look good but you want a lot more from their game.

He looks tidy enough but seems incredibly timid to me.

Plays everything super safe.

He can't have complaints when he's dropped next game.

He’s not a deep playing midfielder, doesn’t have the passing range.

He will only get on the pitch when Bruno is rested. Not to be a know it all but I said that before we signed him.

He’s a tidy player in a possession based team, links well and can see a though pass and is good at arriving late into the box, he’s a 10, nothing else.

I still dont see him as a deep player. He looks a bit lost and I felt like it looked like Mctomminay was playing by himself at times because Van De Beek is moving around the places.

As a CAM, SS, type player type player back up to Bruno or playing as false 9 in the same system as bruno I feel he can make his runs in the box like he wants to do and try to score goals. That is all he is going to do like the player he was at Ajax.

He isn't going to be someone who is good enough to pass the ball around for us because he doesnt have the length of a pass, Mctomminay has a better one than him.

He clearly was a Woodward offer buy to Ole though.

I don't think he misplaced a pass which is nice. Also, I noticed he made a couple of runs that weren't picked up by his teammates, but were pretty good. And his flick to Mata in the first half deserved to be an assist.

But overall, he doesn't offer enough. Needs to influence the game more

I really don't see what the fuss is all about with this guy. Great player to have in the squad, and he had a couple of nice flicks but he didn't really stand out against a Championship-side.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

The issue is he's looked worse as a #10 than he has when playing deeper. Even today he completely drifted out of the game as soon as Matic came on and VDB pushed a bit further forward.
