Burnley Football Club (nicknamed The Clarets), is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. On 18 May 1882, The club was founded on On 18 May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various green or blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In the early months of 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer. Burnley first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885–86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen Old Wanderers. On 13 October 1886, Turf Moor became the first ground to be visited by a member of a (British) Royal Family. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888–89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition.

The club enjoyed its Golden days as one of the most progressive clubs around in the 1950s to the early 1970s under the reign of chairman Bob Lord. They were one of the first teams to build a training ground next to the stadium, while every other team still trained in their own stadium, and the Turf Moor club used innovative training methods. Among other things, this resulted in an excellent youth team. Nearly all members of the 1959–60 Division 1 winning team had played in the Burnley youth team. Lord also pioneered the short-lived 'Football Specials'. The Clarets were also the first to let a manager decide about the transfer policy. After the 1959–60 title winning season finished, Burnley went to the United States to participate in the inaugural international football tournament in North-America, the International Soccer League. The following season Burnley played in European competition for the first time. Burnley's biggest traditional rivals are Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers with the match between Burnley and Blackburn sometimes called The Cotton Mills Derby. Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor.

We have a great record at Turf Moor since they've come up. Not looking forward to Barnes elbowing our players and diving all over the pitch.

    Think we might go

    ---------DDG
    AWB-Lindelof-Maguire-Shaw
    --------Fred-McTominay
    Rashford-Bruno-Martial
    ----------Cavani

Or we'll go to the diamond with Cavani and Rashford up top and bring Pogba in. Don't think McTominay should play to be honest given how poor he's been since Leeds but Fred can't function without him. Lindelof will get bullied by their lumps up front, but at least they have 0 pace in their team so the backline shouldn't be getting caught out in behind (famous last words as Chris Wood races through on goal).

If we continue giving away stupid set pieces like we have been we will 100% concede, Dyche will have them fired up pumping the ball into our box and we've seen how poor we are at winning headers.

    First team:

    DDG
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Fernandes Pogba
    Rashford Martial
Tough match but the incentive to go top is there if we play well. Maguire must NOT get a booking though otherwise he misses Liverpool, sods law he does though! going for 2 - 0 win to United

Think Matic should come in for this one, and Bailly should get another start if he is good. Not sure how Cavani has been getting along since his ban, but I'd like to see him start.

More likely to be Martial and Lindelof instead of Cavani and Bailly though.

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic Fred
    Rashford Bruno Pogba
    Martial

    Bring it on!

Next two games are going to tell us a lot about us. We need at least 4 points from them, then we'll be top 3 points away from Liverpool, and in a pole position to have a long title challenge.

Every player need to put 200% of their performance in them.

I was about to say "surely that's not true, we won a bunch of matches 4-0 at the start of the 17/18 season". Then I realized that was 3 and a half years ago. Feels like yesterday

Looks like Lindelof and Maguire together again. I truly hate that partnership, to me we look so much more secure with Bailly (or Tuanzebe) alongside Maguire, especially against a physical see IDE like Burnley. Wouldn't be surprised to see Matic come in for this as Burnley aren't really speed merchants, but Matic (should be) better in aerial duels than McTominay.
I would have Matic picking up the target player, and both CB's covering behind for the flick on.
De Gea, AWB, Shaw, Fred, Bruno, Pogba, Rashford and Martial will probably come back in.

    DeGea.
    AWB.
    Bailly.
    Maguire.
    Shaw.
    Matic.
    Fred.
    Pogba.
    Bruno.
    Rashford.
    Cavani.

Would be my team, but I think Lindelof and Martial will start.

Burnley last 4 home league games won 3 drew 1. Scored 5 conceded 2.

I last watched them live against Tottenham at home, they were the better side and Harry Kane cleared one goal bound effort off the line and then late on Spurs nicked the 3 points with a Son goal.

Long story short this will likely be a tough assignment and I'll be more than happy with a nervy win.

There is no secret to the way Burnley play; if we don't give needless free kicks/corners away and defend the box well (tall order I know given our defence!) then we should create enough to win by 1 or 2. Unfortunately, we have been pretty profligate in front of goal of late as well so this will prob go to the wire.

It really is a must win as a psychological boost going into the Liverpool game. How many times have we had chance to go 3 points clear at the top since Fergie left?

If we drop points here I don't see us getting a good result at Anfield. Really need to build some positive momentum going into next weekend.

Feck, I thought we were at home for some reason.

If Lindelof and Maguire play it is dropped points, simple as that.

Don’t know what your cursing over. We’ve won our last 4 games at Turf Moor without conceding a goal and we’ve failed to beat them in our last 4 at Old Trafford.

Not great but chance for VDB to come in for Pogba, hopefully Tuanzebe/Bailly can partner Maguire and Telles can step in for Shaw.

That's still a lot of quality to turn to, even versus Liverpool.

Pleased to see Burnley played 120 minutes today with many of their regular first teamers playing. No excuses in that regards as most of our team have had a rest this weekend.

Telles for Shaw no real drop in quality there.

DVB for Pogba - many have wanted to see this for a while.

Bailly for Lindelof if the former is fit.

Three natural replacements. It could have been worse.
Can't see Donny starting but yeah I agree it's no big deal missing those three for Burnley as long as it's not long term.
