What is the best laptop for video editing and what would be the best camera for online streaming but in 4k (I find webcams lack sufficient quality)?

Also aside from Adobe, what is the best alternative video/photo editing apps?

I used to edit on a MacBook Pro and it was pretty good. But I haven't edited on a Windows machine so I'm sure someone will recommend a good one... Maybe an Acer ConceptD 7? Depends on your budget and what kind of editing your doing e.g. 4k footage? Grading? Etc.

@Gambit suggested the MSI Bravo 15 earlier...

Not sure about web cam question. I always have it switched off!

Adobe creative suite is neat as it has the roundtripping between editing, compositing, grade, audio etc.

Alternates are DaVinci Resolve, which some people love. I've only used it to grade but I've been told the edit features on it are excellent. I think you can get a free version of that to try it out. The free version is also quite similar to the paid one so you can really test it.

Avid is another. It's one of the industry standard softwares but I personally find it very counter intuitive. Never been a fan of it. But for long form editing, it's actually really good. My main issue with it is that everything takes an extra step, and I'm all about speed so it's not suited to me.

There's also Final Cut Pro X. I hate it but it's aimed at a more general consumer base so it depends on exactly what you are looking to do...

What's your budget for the laptop as the best one costs about 10k while there are plenty of great laptops for less than a grand that will more than do the job.

Photo editing software, Gimp is a really good free alternative. There's also Picmonkey, Pixlmator Pro and Pixlr that are free, paid the best are Affinty,Rebelle and corel Photo Paint.
Video editing software as mentioned by @Dirty Schwein
Davinci does have a really good comprehensive free version you can get which has editing, composition, audio and video editing plus colour grading. You will need a powerful enough machine for it though.

Web cams, I would advise a Canon dslr with the webcam utility software, free download Here if you want a great image. Also has the compatible models.

Thanks @Dirty Schwein and @Gambit.

Budget wise I’m looking at 2-3k laptop wise.

I’m usually working with large amounts of data, multiple 90 min football matches and creating like mini documentaries (20 min length videos).

I’d also need the laptop to withstand 4K streaming and handling 4K footage in general.

Just on the paid photo apps, can you give me a brief insight into the type of things I’d be able to achieve with them - can you do some of the cool shit Olly does or is that reserved for Adobe photoshop.

If your looking at higher quality streaming look at getting a proper streaming hub. There's some cheaper ones that hangers use or there's the better more pro stuff like switchers.

All Ollie does is create animated gifs, you can do that in pretty much all of the free ones I listed,

Finished working on a music video for Foo Fighters last week. Came out looking great considering the short amount of time we had to do it. Chuffed to bits.

If anyone has anything they've completed (short, doc, feature) after 1 January 2019 and wants a waiver for the film festival I work on then drop me a message and I'll fire you one! Submissions are - for obvious reasons - very low this year but we have a very high benchmark so really want to see some more quality content. We were one of the last festivals to manage a live event last year, albeit at a socially distanced Odeon Luxe (although our usual red carpet awards ceremony had to go online). We run in October so there's probably a 50/50 chance of whether or not we'll be live at the Odeon again or virtual. You can see more on the festival at www.filmfreeway.com/seiff :-)

I may submit but not sure my latest short is correct for this. I'll look into it more.

Sweet man! What was your role?
Technical Director, and just an all round generalist. So there’s probably something I’d be involved in for each shot, whether it was lighting, texturing or fx work etc.

It’s easy to talk about now but God were they stressful at the times. This sort of industry can send you to an early grave.

That's great man. Yeah shoots are usually stressful but in the end of the final product comes out good, then all is usually forgiven!
