Why have they taken out the loan?
The loan has been taken out because the club need to maintain a positive cash flow in order to pay wages to players and staff.
The club, like many, have experienced large revenue losses because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In April, the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust predicted that the club could lose £144 million if the 2020-21 season was played entirely behind closed doors.

Is it to be used on transfers?
No, the loan cannot be used for transfers.
The club say that the loan is only there to facilitate cash flow during a difficult financial period.

That doesn't mean he doesnt have a future at Arsenal. It meant we were overloaded at centre back and as the youngest he missed out. In the summer Luiz, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Sokratis & likely Chambers & Mavropanos won't be there. We will be clearing the decks. There's will be much more space for him, & he'll be another 6 months on in his development.

Why does Edu need to say he has a big future & they see him having a great career at Arsenal? He could still say positive things without mentioning Arsenal specifically.

Ach, anyway, you might be right. Only way we'll see is in the future, no point debating it now.
First of all i haven't said "That doesn't mean he doesnt have a future at Arsenal".

My opinion is only that he wasn't included in the squad for a easy Europa League group is strange and not a good sign.

I will come back to this debate in the new season :)

Either way, you also probably want to question Arteta's decision not included him in the squad. This is not normal decision. EL Group Stage is the best time to play your young players, Ole played full of kids last season against Astana when we hadn't even settle the top of the group.

That is my opinion too as you have probably seen in this thread but Saliba couldn't play in a meaningless match against Rapid and Dundalk on the last two matchdays (Our match against Astana was of course a special case because the match was in Kazakhstan) because he isn't a B-list-player.

I totally agree it's not been handled great. He was meant to go back on loan to St Etienne but somehow we managed to feck up his registration in deadline day, probably spread to thinly getting Partey deal done, which is poor for the lad.

Arteta even said he regretted not having him available for some of the latter games in the group, so yeah it's been poorly handled all round.

He now has his loan, hopefully he gets 20 more top level games under his belt and he comes back to play some part next season once the bloat has been removed.

On a similar vein, looks like the end of Ozil is nigh at Arsenal. Looking close to Fenerbache now.

The problem is that he's not included in the squad for that EL especially when you can play him in EL Group Stages. There is zero logic why he's not included.

Even if Saliba ends up being a world class CB for us, which looks unlikely right now, spending 28m on him and not using him for 2 years is a horrendous waste of money. Add that to the 72m wasted on Pepe and you really have to question what's going on with transfers.

I agreed with you mate, was handled really poorly, as I said Arteta already expressed regret that he didn't include him in the Europa League squad, but it shouldn't have come down to that in the first place.

I also agree with that, thankfully the main guy in charge of transfers that summer, Sanllehi isn't there any more. Can't afford to spend money like that that doesn't improve the first team. Also needs to be noted the manager has changed as well since then, so Saliba was not Arteta's signing.

He chose the games under Wenger?
That's ridiculous, he played almost every match under Wenger when not under a long term injury (like at the start of the 14/15 season). It was actually under Emery where he started getting these strange 'back injuries' from time to time that meant he was missing some matches.

Na, he was getting them in Wenger's last season as well.

He missed 12 games in his last season, 6 of which came consecutively at the end of the season (can't call that selecting matches). Before that he played 33, 35, 22 (injured for the start of the season) and 26 through also missing games from injury.

Under Emery he had many more matches missed randomly during the season.

The fact is he turned down loan to PSG last season. He clearly lacks motivation since that contract extension.

Kroenke has had enough, he's buying the league.

The comments sounds very encouraging:
" Warning Gunners, he was crap at West Brom as our DoF (kind of) and was shunted out into other roles. Depending on his remit, this could ring alarm bells. "
" His appointment to replace Dan Ashworth as DOF was the start of the downward spiral at West Brom. More of a legal expert than football man. "

If he's taking Huss Fahmy's role, I think it will be more the administrative side he'll be dealing with, working with Edu who'll be the football voice.

So Ozil is finally leaving...

Does this justify Fergie not signing him way back before he moved to Real (Rooney got disillusioned too if I recall right) or did we miss the boat?

What really happened to this guy, to not even be included in the squad is such a fall from grace. Surely can’t be a footballing decision.

Unless I have been completely out of the loop, this move seems to have come out of the blue.

They didnt even have a transfer thread for it in Arsenal Mania before it was announced!

This club is so pointless these days. When will the big clubs in the EPL starting taking themselves seriously?

My brother, an Arsenal fan, said today that Arsenal need to offload a player before they can officially register Odegaard. Any gooners know whether there is any truth in this?

It's been decided to just take Mustafi out back and put him down. Issue sorted.

That would be a suitable solution for sure. Is what I asked really a thing then?

I only give a sh*t because I want to know whether he'll be available for United

It apparently is yes. Something about homewgrown numbers and different criterias for the PL and the EL squads.
The solution is to unregister Runarsson and make him play only with the U23 or loan him out somewhere. According to reddit we'll have to kick one more for the EL squad if we want Martinelli to play in it. And that would be Mustafi.

Why not just play both games at a neutral venue then ? The loser of this game will be properly fecked.

Same old Arsenal, always cheating.

Runnarsson vs Villa is going to be interesting.

Says it all they changed the rule so last man defenders rarely get sent off for fouls that are penalties and yet Luiz has now been sent off for that offence three times in last 13 months!
