This episode sees another UK-US show as me and Ashwin @AR87 discuss a league topping win over a typically battling Burnley.
In the match analysis we review our wealth of midfield options, Pogba's regeneration, how Harry was robbed by VAR, that the ref is not a Friend and Bailly's rebirth.

They also discuss how Liverpool heroically vanquished the Villa under 8's team and in a preview of the 'Bout to knock the other team out', what midfield to play at Anfield. There is also much praise for Ole's management and tactics.

Hope you enjoy the episode and we welcome all feedback

Great stuff lads. Magba

Absolutely agreed our midfielders should be shooting more, it drives me mad at times and we need to work the keepers more from range.

V Liverpool I would play McFred and also add in Pogba too, maybe on that left side. Will be a difficult midfield battle on Sunday. I think I would start Cavani after Martial's knock and keep Tony in reserve in case he is needed. And no I have absolutely no bias about playing McTominay

Pogba vs Trent is an interesting one mind.. Ole tends to make sure we are quick out to their fullbacks, and wants to give them something to think about. Remember that double from Rashford a few years ago with the chop and finish early doors? You have to play Pogba in this form, and you have to play McFred in this type of fixture. I wonder if he'd think about a 4-3-3, which could be strange considering 4231 with Pogba attacking left has worked so well.

Great pod Nik and Ashwin, lots of sense talked. Feels an obvious point about Bailly needing Maguire as much as the other way round, but you don't really hear it mentioned. I still think there are question marks beyond his injury record, and I'm not sure he is a better defender than Lindelof as such, but clearly a better partner for Maguire and something we were saying early last season.

(I actually have 20 minutes left to finish so I'll be back if one of you says something ridiculous)

Glad to see you didn't come back @Alock1 !

In practice the difference between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 is minimal - I suppose there is a chance Ole does something different like a diamond with split wide forwards but I'd like to see us going into this game with our favoured formation

It's quite different if Pogba is top left pressing AAT vs Rashford with Pogba behind him.

Ye it's not exactly the same but even when Pogba plays the attacking left role he doesn't go as wide as Rashford or Martial would in the same formation. I suppose it all depends who else starts

Nik you mentioned fair to be unsure about a title race pre-christmas. Let's not forget in any other season this would be pre-season as we havent done a full round of fixtures :smirk:

Also, you said we have beaten all the small teams this season but I recall us losing to both Arsenal and Spurs

2 matches off the halfway point - even if we lose both we are still in the race!

Great pod lads. I think we have been defensively sound, but I agree with the consensus that our strikers do need to get their collective fingers out. Cavani, I can forgive, but some of Tony's misses were unforgivable. Especially against the dippers, we might not get a second go. That being said, I also agree that Cavani should start over Martial. I feel this is another game DVB could prove vital given his press resistance over McFred. I would even go so far as Matic, Pogba, and DVB (might be attacking enough to be suicidal to be fair) and sacrifice an attacker. Something like:

De Gea
Bailly Maguire Lindelof
AWB VDB Matic Pogba Telles/Shaw
Bruno Cavani

Get Martial and a relatively rested Rashford against their makeshift defense after 60 minutes.

Also, Magba gives me nightmares (especially since I live in Portland, I am sure @AR87 knows what I am talking about). Pogtic sounds so much more palatable.

I mean not giving klopp ammunition to fire back or press to have their quotes is one thing.

Putting refs under some sort of pressure (to counteract what Klopp did through his comments) is another thing and in my mind would be very welcome.

Don't like that line up TBH, too experimental for such a big game and there is no way Rashford doesn't start this match

Nowadays with VAR Im not sure how much difference this makes, although I suppose refs are still making calls so maybe it can (eg Maguire disallowed goal)
