Where's my arc, Paulie?
Simmons isn’t even among the top NBA themed podcasts anyway. The Mismatch guys from his own crew are far better than him but nothing beats No Dunks for NBA content for me. Those guys are amazing and have grown so much even since their not so distant Starters days. I must say I am enjoying Bell’s and Murdoch’s Real Ones a lot too.
The mismatch guys are great. Simmons is still on a lot of the other ringer podcasts, unfortunately. He somehow manages to be consistently terrible on each and every one of them.

I listen to him primarily now when he gets good interviews. His KD ones were great. His sport takes have gotten stale over the years and I wonder if he is checked out since he still can't write longform. The last podcast I listened to he made a comment about his fingers not working anymore. I still love the book of basketball an some of his draft diaries and page 2 stuff was great.

Celtics trading for Kyire?
And even then the price they paid turned out to have been worth the hassle. Washed IT and what turned out to be a pretty average pick (though Sexton has looked great lately).

Yeah both KOC and Verno are great though Vernon can be over the top sometimes. Have you tried No Dunks? Those guys are my no 1 podcast overall, any subject, any genre.

I was about to say something similar. When was the last team an already good team traded for a superstar and it didn’t work? It was the same when Lakers traded for AD, ‘where is the Seth supposed to come from’, ‘they gave up so much’. Turned out they gave up even more than they thought they were, considering how Ingram has developed into possibly a top 10 win but it was still worth it.
Blake Griffin?

What do you make of his comments about Kyrie?

I would need to go listen to the whole clip before passing full judgement, but the snippet in that tweet looks really bad. Simmons LOVES his analogies, but comparing young black men to dogs is a bad look and pretty much inexcusable. I'm not going to lie and say I am not a fan of his, because I have loved his writing over the years and his podcast was always a great listen. I really don't like how involved RR has become. I listened to that podcast the two of them did post George Floyd and was horrified in real time and kind of stopped listening regularly after that. I don't think its a coincidence that this involved RR too.

Why the hell wouldn't they be? They're in win now mode, not build for future. And they just got a top 10 player in the league

Okay take out the fact they've gambled their future, this hasn't got the feel of a trio that can work. Personality and playing wise.
And bigs are important in this league and they had a good one. Now they don't.

They'll figure it out offensively. The whole 'there's only one ball' thing is overblown. Yeah, there might be some teething issues but in the end talent will overcome all that. KD is also one of the best superstars in the league when it comes to adapting to the playstyle of others and still being great himself.

Defense will be the big issue. I can't see them stopping Giannis or AD. Embiid should also destroy them. Maybe they have enough fire power to mitigate that but I don't think so.

They're in win now mode, they gambled their future when they signed KD and Kyrie. You don't make those signings and then balk at going all in to win with them

Kyrie is unreliable. Bigs are important, and they have KD. Before they had 1 top 10 player in the league. Now they have 2

It's on my list now. Thanks for the recommendation. They have two episodes that dropped today. Perfect.

Those comments don't surprise me at all tbh. I think Simmons represents everything that is wrong with sports media. I am not sure if you read this in the NYT. Even prior to this article, several former employees at the ringer have come forward about how terrible it was to work there.

I read that article and was not surprised by it. The silver lining has been there are a bunch of great new podcasts to listen to:

Higher learning, Bakari sellers podcast, and my new favorite, the real ones.

It is not a good look that it took a public shaming to spur a more diverse podcast crew, but I’m not going to complain about the results.

Google doodle is celebrating James Naismith day today, would really want to know his thoughts on how he feels about all the free throws and shooting 3s from everywhere.

The Clippers and Kawhi/PG, for the time being.

Yeah it's just one year so far though, and they clearly got better and became more relevant although it ended up with them becoming a laughing stock. That trade is looking amazing for the Thunder though.

‘An already good team’ was key. Griffin went to Detroit who had nobody.

Yeah, it's no guarantee of a title of course, but come on. The Pistons won 37 games before trading for Blake and 41 in his first full season. And Blake wasn't a top 10 in the league at that point, either

The clippers were massively better last season than the season before

Obviously true yeah, but they didn't have a semis exit in mind when they traded for PG. If they don't win a title this year or next, the trade won't have worked out. Jury still out for now.

They are getting more years from Kawhi and George though, they will have more shots at it.

As giorno says, it's no guarantee of title and Nets may not win one during KD/Kyrie/Harden era either. But this will make them better overall and will make them more likely to be important in the East than they were before the trade.

Yeah agreed. Also just checked, George is from 1990, thought he was a couple of years older, that's why I said this season or next.

There is no doubting his talent, but the Rockets were the only team I would actively avoid watching on league pass if they were not playing the Lakers. I just can't stomach his style of play. Trey Young is about to single handedly do the same thing to me with the Hawks, which sucks because I like watching the rest of that team.

I'm not some old basketball purists who think's "back in my day the basketballs was better", but I do disdain the foul seeking that Harden and Young do. It is akin to diving in the box for a penalty and I can not stand either. If the league cracks down on that I think that Harden is not going to age well, especially if he has issues staying in shape. I hope he cuts it out as he is otherwise a brilliant basketball player.
Harden to me is the antithesis of how basketball should be played, I’d never watch them unless they were playing the Lakers, dribble dribble 3! Made worse by D’Antoni.

I think the Heat are an excellent comparison for the Nets when it comes to having a "big ". The only way that worked, and remember it did not work the first year, was by Bosh sacrificing a lot of touches and Wade/LeBron coming to an agreement on how to share Alpha status. The Nets need to do this but I don't see any of them being willing to make that sacrifice. Kyrie left both the Cavs and Celts because he wanted his own team, Harden couldn't make it work with Westbrook or Paul and now he has 2 guys to share with, and KD, who is the most likely to be willing to do what's best for the team, is the LAST ones who should.

Plus there is a 50% chance that Kyrie's take on sharing alpha status is to show up in a wolf costume.
I actually think Chris Paul was more important to the Rockets than Harden, I don’t see personally how this trade works, maybe they run Harden off ball more ifnhe

Harden and Paul worked fine on the floor and almost knocked out historically good Warriors team if it wasn’t for CP3 injury or 27 missed threes. They had chemistry issues towards the end but they definitely proved they could work together.
Harden openly did not want to play how Paul did, Paul like I said above was more important to that run than Harden in my opinion.

He couldn’t make it work with D12, Westbrook and openly quit on Cousins and Wall.

I was about to say something similar. When was the last team an already good team traded for a superstar and it didn’t work? D12 to the Lakers, Kyrie to Boston, Westbrook to HOU and probably PG13 to OKC.

Feel the gave up too much narrative was mainly by the media rather than people who looked at the trade. If you can get a top 5 player in his prime, you do it every time. Don’t feel like Ingrams game will translate to wins, although he was the one who I was most upset to be losing, rooting

They are getting more years from Kawhi and George though, they will have more shots at it.

The thing is, Kawhi could well opt out after this year? He hasn’t committed yet and I don’t think they will improve much further.

Also if you make this Harden trade, you better win one championship at least, Hardens 31? He’s due 50 million, those 3 will be taking up basically an entire rosters money.

That’s assuming they all stay healthy, Irving is always injured and potentially crazy, Durants had injury problems, Hardens somehow come by unscathed.

It’s going to be fun to watch, especially on D.

Really feel for KAT. Guy has suffered through so much last year and now he tests positive himself - can't catch a break.

Kyrie is such a strange human. At this point I wouldn’t be shocked if he never played another NBA game again.

Don't be silly. He's clearly got his issues but Nash has just more or less confirmed he should be back within next few games.
