Can’t see it, Koeman likes him but they are so strapped for cash I can’t see them wasting money on Memphis.

Well actually the way they’ve spent their cash recently they might just do it. Plus they aren’t really top 3 in the world atm.
Its a free transfer...
Utter nonsense of course they are top 3 in the world

By name I completely agree, but with their current problems I'd say Bayern, Madrid, City, Liverpool are easily ahead.
City are certainly not a bigger club. Current form isnt the only determining factor either

Yeah didn’t realise, thought he had one more year left for some reason.

In what sense, size of club? Or being one of best 3 teams in the world? I wouldn’t say they are a shoe in for being one of the 3 best in world football.

They are struggling off the pitch especially.

Totally agree with you. Still what I mean is that currently Barcelona is not what it used to be, it doesnt hold the same merit to arrive there at this particular moment. Theyre playing Braithwaite and Dest just to give an example.

Im sure if you ask most players they will say Barca is top 3 in the world because current form isn't a determining factor over long term form and club status

I think it does hold that weight, doesnt go away over night. They are having financial trouble hence those signings. And Dest is a really good young player by the way. The other club that attempted to sign him was Bayern.

Yeah I agree on that. I was speaking from the point that Memphis was saying he would be ten times better if playing with players in one of the 3 best teams in the world.

On a side note imagine selling Suarez and signing Memphis... imagine if Messi leaves as well

24 year old defender from Real Sociedad who I've never heard of, I don't know but 75M seems quite a lot for someone of his profile.
Well we are due to play them in the Europa League so will get a proper chance to see him in action then, be interesting to see if there are rumours of us talking to his people around the time of the game over here

I mean, Barca are financially fecked. The best thing for them is for Messi to leave so they can get on a better financial footing. The rebuild has to happen anyway, it'll be easier with more in the budget. Messi is 33, still phenomenal obviously, but they should've got 100M for him last summer. The situation is so bad that they had to sacrifice Arthur this last summer, in a "swap" for Pjanic, to get around FFP. With another COViD impacted season right now, they are going to be in dire circumstances this coming summer if they don't massively reduce their wage bill. Messi is apparently on something like a million plus a week. It's not the end of their issues of course, you still have to actually rebuild the squad, and they'll lose him for free too. So they'll need loans to sign players probably. Plus they still have players like Griezmann, who is about to turn 30, on 560K a week. Mental how that club is run.

Obviously replacing Messi with Memphis would be supremely hilarious. I mean, I'd laugh. But for that kind of money (in terms of wages), they could potentially sign three to four world class players and create a platform for competing now and in the future.

Not just financially. Messi is much bigger than Barca for quite many a year already: he decides upon transfers, tactics, managers, club presidents, no other player has neither say nor any significance whatsoever (in that everyone needs to always say that “Messi is the best in the world/in the history” and to keep quiet in his shadow). It’s not about the team - it’s about Messi and only about Messi.

A couple of Marseille-related Transfer Tweets:

As announced tonight in Top of the Foot on RMC, Marseille are still negotiating the last details with Napoli and Milik this evening. Ready with an option to buy as said yesterday for 8 + 4 [million Euros]. Complex operation with negotiations on the very last details. White smoke [i.e. further progress] is expected tomorrow.

Big news from Marca

@giorno @carvajal Thoughts on the news (including its legitimacy)?

EDIT: Christian Falk is also reporting the same thing (citing Marca)

I guess it's settled.

EDIT 2: This also means that Ramos's position is weaker at Real Madrid. We shall see how that develops over the next few days.

Parma are interested in both Franco Vazquez, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Federico Fazio.

Nice & Saint-Etienne are also interested in Todibo.

I believe it. Marca is not what used to be with the covers. They have been insisting with Alaba for some time.
From a muppet point of view very happy, although the fact that there is no public and that it is a transfer delayed to July perhaps takes away a bit of emotion
An elite player who arrives for free, and who, being pretended by other teams, ended up choosing Madrid.
Apparently because it was his first choice and also because of the 11 million we will pay, of course.

I think he arrives two or three seasons too late and I wonder if it is not a salary too high for a substitute, because -at least in the Zidane era- Varane is not going to go to the bench and I do not think he will improve Mendy.
His salary seems to be a topic of conversation right now. "Years saving and now they pay him 11" "Why don't you pay Ramos a little more and save the money for someone else"

If true it means Ramos is off Madrid, he won't accept to be benched and they wont bench Varane nor Mendy at LB either, and definitely not paying him 11M for him to be on the bench.

Ramos on his way to PSG I say.

Details:
  • Salary: 12 million Euros per season (after taxes)
    • Conflicts with Marca's report of 11 million
  • Bayern Munich offered 3 times Alaba's current earnings

There was some noises last year of a return to Arsenal on a short term deal. What a fall from grace, injuries properly fecked him. He did play some good stuff on loan at Bournemouth before and he'll be a very good addition 'if' he can stay fit.

Still cannot believe that Ramos will leave and expect him to reach a compromise with the club in the end

Sadly, they can't even pay their players and will still owe them money over the next couple of years. Barcelona is nice and all but the players can't play for free. It's THAT bad.
