Reckon Phil will party in the city where the heat is on, all night on the beach till the break of dawn.

Imagine if he does really bad and his mate Becks had to sack him. Awkward... Never work for your pals or your family. It never ends well.

Don’t believe he said that for a second.

If he’s comparing himself to previous England women’s team managers then he is better and probably the best they could get.
He literally did worse than some random bloke called Mark Sampson and has been replaced by a manager who won the previous Euros and finished runner-up in the last World Cup so he’s absolutely not the best they could get.

He just lost 8/12 games with one of the best squads in the world and his only previous coaching experience was at the Moyes disaster at United and his brother’s even bigger disaster at Valencia. I stick by my fraud assessment.

Yeah but he can do a mean step-over.

Whether you're a manager with 20 trophies to your name or one just starting off, some caftard will end up calling you a fraud for no apparent reason.

Most uninspiring Man Utd player I know. Does he even coach? He must be so lucky to be part of the class of 1992 which has now set him up for life.

He'll be pushed to the limit, he'll walk along the razor's edge but he mustn't look down, just keep his head or he'll be finished.

You can never win anything with kids.
You'll never overhaul Liverpool's titles.
You can't win the treble
You'll never make it as a pro-footballer.
etc.

These lads are not motivated solely by money.

They will attempt to. They may not be successful. You'll note I also included their business contacts.
Let’s hope you’re incredibly wrong then because Peter Lim makes the Glazers look fantastic.

He’s not going to set the world alight but I see no reason why people get so negative about ex players.
What are you basing that on?

Well they’ve under achieved consistently, no big name managers have been there and even though it’s only Phil Neville his presence has helped elevate the women’s game.

He got to a semi final and from what I’ve read was very close indeed to beating the USA team to make a final.

He’s entitled to defend his tenure there when questioned by the press. Like I say he’s nothing special as a manager but who are the women’s team likely to attract who’s a definite upgrade?

@renandstimpyfan83 Most high profile I meant. They were certainly looking to get a known face to represent the game.
Yeah, I can’t argue with the fact that he’s more famous to the average person in the street than any coach in the women’s game. It’s a ridiculous reason to choose a manager though and it’s arguable as to whether his presence really made an impact. The popularity of the team had already been on a rapid uphill trajectory due to the 2015 World Cup.

Thankfully, the FA went down a different route this time and have hired someone with a genuine track record in the women’s game, rather than a famous ex player with no managerial experience.

Yeah I agree with that however I think the most important thing ultimately was raising the profile of the sport.

Ultimately that’s how they attract more followers and how they eventually get more money into the game.

I agree they need the best they can get, I think they thought they would get the best of both worlds with P Nev.

I meant more regarding Nevilles ability rather than his prestige, your point about who they could get who has a bigger name is probably a valid one, he does have a larger media profile. It’s not the way I’d go about hunting for a manager but I do see why they went that route.

He does have the right to defend himself, though I did find pointing to short corners as testament to his vision as kind of funny, but I’ve only seen the couple sentences out of context, I’m sure if I listened to the interview in full he’d come off as less Brent like, or Brendan like.

Hah yeah, there's a balance because the women's game needs to build the brand consistently. We don't really know very much about P Nev's ability, perhaps we will see it a bit more in depth at club level in Miami, with much more regular games and full time coaching.

I wonder what gems of advise he will give to Higuain. :D

The club's name is so dumb it's hard to get past.
It’s the type of crap name you expect on a fantasy football website.

I currently live in Miami and I think I’ve only ever seen the team advertised once, inside a Publix for something. No one talks about the team and no one really cares either. Their main team is the Dolphins then the heat and then any other team. This is a city full of Hispanics who love football too.

His record was pretty darn bad as England manager. He also comes across as someone devoid of personality. Have to say Beckham brought it upon himself when he hired his mate knowing full well he isn’t up to it.

I mean anyone could see going down the nepotistic/friends route was only going to end in one way. His pre and post match interviews are classic. Pulls out every single cliche in the book. 23 Cup finals!

I actually don't mind Phil but he's never been managerial material, more like a u15's coach.

The name's a little crap, but I feel MLS clubs are a bit damned if they do and damned if they don't. The American names like "Austin Bold" get shat on as well. Either way I think they might get sued for it.

Also, I think you're either wrong about "no one caring" or vastly overestimated how much people should have cared. There is no way Inter Miami was ever going to get a quarter of the support of Dolphins or Heat right now. It's too early and they have to build a bit of a brand right now to compete with those giants and they still likely never will. You're a Miami native so ultimately you know better than I do but I see a lot of support for the team in the general MLS crowd. The ticket sales I notice are quite decent for a starting MLS club in a post pandemic world as well.

So really you probably know better but could it be a case you overestimated their impact? Even for successful MLS clubs like DC United -- you don't really feel a presence in DC until game days.
