I read that Martin is not happy with his situation. However, I have been very worried about his injuries. The jumpers knee took him from being maybe the best performing player in LaLiga to "okay +". And this autumn he also had some other injury that kept him out. As I have seen with Martin, he needs to play a lot to gain confidence, and he thrives when the team plays vertically and also on counter-attacks. He also plays better together with players that take runs behind the lines and when he gets the ball a lot. If he stays fit and avoids injuries, he really has something to offer as a Martin in good shape delivers a lot of key passes and dictates the rythm of the game very well. The price now I guess is between 40-60 mill? But Madrids club president likes him. I do not know if they will let him go, but I doubt he will want to stay for long if he does not play. But with CL and cups coming up I think he will get more games as they will need to rotate their aging midfield in the upcoming weeks. Maybe a swap deal + cash could be done?

I would love to see him at United but where would he play? He is either CM, false 9 or a roaming right wing that does not rely on speed but rather cuts inside or combine with others and has a rather free role.

He has been injury-free for quite some time now, but Zidane isnt giving him any minutes, he rather play Isco, for some reason.

I dont know why Zidane wanted him to come back, its clear Martin has no future under him.
Also, if the plan is to just cross and inshallah, Martin is of limited use anyway, as thats not his game.

Would love for him to succeed, but its not happening, he should think about his career and make a move in the summer.
He’s been struggling with Jumper’s knee, and he had a few weeks on the sidelines, which won’t have helped.

Not even half a season is not a lot to go by... and then we have Zizou saying this:

"Let him continue working, he is a beloved player and he will surely succeed here," Zidane told a media conference.

"He has not played much lately but the idea is to keep working hard; he will have minutes.

Do you guys think Ole could sign Ødegaard to Old Trafford ?
I don't know how well he performs actually, read a bit about his injuries and Zidane who doesn't play him a lot.
Where would he fit in our starting line up, in a midfield 3 in a 4-3-3 ? Double pivot with Fred or McTominay in a classic 4-2-3-1 ?

We are pretty filled in that area with Pogba, van de Beek and Fernandes. I feel we need more to replace Matic in the next windows, if not this year, in 2022.

The bolded part sounds like a pretty ideal fit to me? Surely, he would also be a credible backup option for Bruno?

Swap deal (with some additional Madrid money) for Pogba might be something....

Left out of Madrids squad for CD Alcoyano in Copa del Rey tomorrow. Journalists have been told they can ask why after the game, but that he is left out for technical reasons, ie not an injury.

Doubt it will be anything dramatic, but it adds attention to his lack of minutes this season.

considering he could rotate with Bruno, and to some degree fill Pogba’s role in the squad, i wonder if he is even being considered by OGS. I think he will be very careful with bringing norwegians to United, outside Haaland, Ødegaard might be the only one under consideration atm.

I just read on Marca he has asked to leave on loan again to play because he's unhappy with his minutes this season, you can't blame him tbf but it's probably why he's been left out, perhaps back to Sociedad ?

Edit: Here's the article, https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2021/01/19/60070df546163f0c928b4602.html , apparently Zidane want's to keep him but he still might get his loan request, Sociedad have been a bit crap recently so I can see them being interested in his services again

Wtf is Zidane doing? Why take him back if he won’t play him? Why ruin his well-going career? Something’s not right here... I’d be furious if I was Ödegaard.

Maybe they didn't expect Modric to still be that good at 46 years of age but he should be getting full cup games at the very least.

Sign him up, even if it's a loan. Would solve our short term RW issues (and also a natural backup for Bruno). A colossal upgrade on Mata.

Yep, I'm all for it. A perfect Mata replacement.

Loan with an option to buy please, and considering we got Ole.. we should be all over that if a deal presented itself

I love Martin (15), but I’m not sure I’d want Ole to sign him. The scrutiny they’ll both get if he doesn’t hit the ground running will be bad for all parties involved.

I do think he could be a decent Pogba replacement, but he lacks strength and that killer, final pass. He can certainly improve on both, but he definitely brings something else to the table than Pogba. I do think he nullifies VDB as well, but I don’t really care about that if he improves our starting XI on a relatively weekly basis.

what I am sure of though, is that he should be playing football. If he can’t get any minutes in Madrid, he should leave ASAP.

Pretty much agree with you on this. Would love him here, but would be afraid its far from ideal conditions for him to flourish, and if he can’t become his best it would be better for all parties if he found somewhere «less noisy» to become the best version of himself.

If we ever did want to have an attempt at him though, now might be the best chance.

It was obvious that lack of minutes has nothing to do with injuries, let's be honest here.

Martin didn't completely dominate so he went out of favour with Zidane in less than no time. The games he's played he's been either good, or just ok. He hasnt been bad, just lacked a standout performance. Not that any other Real players have been that amazing this season either, they are sorely lacking players with the Ronaldo factor.

But, that being said, Zidane is completely shafting him here. He wanted to remain in Sociedad for another year, Real took him back, and he's being repaid by being completely dropped after doing nothing wrong.

Ødegaard was the stand out player in La Liga last season, to be dropped for a B team player in a cup game is just beyond absurd.

Manchester United should strongly consider taking a punt here.

Yeah his overall performance did take a dip. It was mostly a season of two halves, where one was completely dominating and the other was between very good or completely anonymus.

The player is stuck in a bit of a rut and if he's looking to build confidence, his manager is not giving him any help as it stands now. I'm thinking that someone who is a bit more heavy handed on the people part of football managing will be able to stabilize the player more.

I do not understand you here, the last killer pass is his specialty. There are not many in the world as good at timing those like he can. He excels at that, especially when playing in teams that go on the counter and has fast forwards/wings. Like in Real Sociedad with Portu etc.

Also, he is not WEAK anymore. But he does not jump into tackles. He runs a lot though.

I am more worried about the state of his knee. In fit shape, he would in my opinion be superb in at team like United. But he has not been himself after the jumpers knee, before that he was the best midfielder in LaLiga last autumn. The stats and awards showed that.

I see every match from him but I am super worried by his jumpers knee. If he is fit and the knee is okay, then I hope he goes to a team where he can immediately get many minutes. I hope he ends up somewhere else, United, Dortmund, someplace where he can play a style of football that suits him.

Now is not the time for him to come to United. If he had matches under his belt and was 100% fit, yes. Definately.

No he should be starting many games in la liga. He showed last season he’s past cup games only. Give him a real chance or sell/loan him. This is ridiculous and stupid.

If it wasn`t for the fact that Zidane actually lets talent leave, i`d say he was a black hole in terms of talent crushing.

Guy is class, hopefully La Real want him back as that was perfect fit for him last year.

If Rakitic hadn't of gone back to Sevilla, I'd say he'd have been a good option for them.

Don't see him leaving Spain as he could've gone to Ajax 18 months ago but wanted to show his worth in La Liga.

He is a sublime passer, don’t get me wrong, but he does lack that final killer pass.
I hate bringing up stats in arguments like these, but his (lack of) assists underlines my point.

Too often is the pass over ambitious, or not the final killer pass (as in he’s the third/fourth last man to touch the ball). Not necessarily a huge negative on its own, not every pass has to be an assist, but his actual goal creation is definitely something he should be looking to improve upon (and probably is already). I think this is fairly agreed upon by most people who’ve watched him quite regularly, at least it’s been a big question mark for some time now.
“When will he explode?”

I never said he was WEAK either, just to be clear. What I tried to argue was that if we’re looking for a Pogba replacement, Ødegaard is something totally different. He simply can’t do some of the things Pogba does, as he’s physically a totally different animal. Hence my comparison with other players as well (physically he’s a lot more similar to VDB than Pogba, that much is obvious).

I’m simply trying to have a fairly balanced and objective opinion of him, being a fellow Norwegian and all. I already think he’s one of our all time greats, and the sky is the limit I guess. But he’s not there yet.

Is he already a very good player? Yes.
Is his ceiling world class? Maybe.
Can he improve with us? Probably.
Is he what we need? I don’t know. I think it’s wise of him (and us) to go elsewhere on loan in January.
Are there things he can improve in his game? Yes. Strength and goal creation (assists, actual goals) are two of those things.

It has a lot to do with taking risks. I don’t think he’s much worse than Pogba or Bruno when it comes to passing potential. He just need to play more direct and go for the killer pass more often and you’ll see he can do that too. But I’ve seen a few killer passes he did in Sociedad so there’s no question he’s got the ability. Some of those passes are even better than what I’ve seen Pogba and Bruno doing.

I agree, I guess. Some of his passes before christmas last season were mind blowing.

This has Arsenal written all over it. Think he'd make them so much better in midfield ahead of Partey.

Madrid’s not known for their development of, and patience with youth. They should have allowed him another season on loan. But then again, Madrid’s “needs” are above those of the individual.

Hopefully he gets some minutes and/or another loan at seasons end. Don’t think Madrid would sell him without a buyback anyway.

The club isnt chasing eriksen, hes been offered by inter who want him off their books. Odegaard is just another ill advised player. Why would any young footballer want to sign for madrid in the first place knowing that first team football would be very very limited? Zidane sticks to players he trusts and doesn't seem like a coach who will develop the younger players.

Perez has sanctioned quite a few signs of young players none of whom Zidane trusts i think. Then again Madrid arent the type of club to have a few fallow years of not competing for the trophies while their younger players develop.

Looked a really good player at Sociedad. Hard to say whether it’s one of those ones where he flourishes at a smaller side where the onus is entirely on him (in a Zaha, Grealish manner) and his struggles at the highest level in pressure at Madrid are proof of that, or if it’s a case where he’s simply at a club in a bit of tactical turmoil where he simply doesn’t fit.

If he’s up for loan I’d absolutely toss our name in the ringer. Mostly plays on the right, yeah? Bit of a ball carrier? Yes please.

I'm salivating at what he could potentially do at this club under a manager who' excells at instilling confidence into his players.

I'm 99% certain he'll go back to Sociedad though, but I'd be so hyped if he by some miracle came here.

A very real possibility is that he'll be on the pitch when he play Sociedad... so yeah. Him and Aleksander Isak need to be shut down for that game.

I'm usually not in favor of loaning other big teams players but this I'm in favor of if Ole wants him.

We are desperate for right midfielder. He would slot in there perfect, and provide an option for Bruno. He might have an adjustment period though, so has to be 1.5 yr loan rather than 6m. And if he does brilliant here, then can see possibility of signing him permanently.

Imagine pissing one of the biggest talents in the club off so much he asks to leave again after 6 months.
