45 points for the title

We need to get to 85 points and that wins us the title this season, halfway through and we need another 45.

If we can go on a 6/7 game winning run at any point in the second half of the season, it should lead us to number 21.

Why does that win us the title? Problem we have is we know both City and Liverpool can go on crazy winning streaks. City are already threatening to do so.

Clean sheets win titles. We don’t keep them, City do. Hope im wrong but they look levels above us. You wouldn’t see them holding on against Burnley & Fulham. The fact that we’re in the conversation is fantastic considering our expectations in the summer, but I do think we’ll fall short.

They were holding on against Brighton at home last week.

Well we kept a clean sheet against Burnley, yet were still ‘holding on’. Goals win titles, and City will struggle in this area I think. They have no natural goalscorer in their team.

We didn't really hold on against Burnley and if you watched the City game today Villa should have scored a hatful of goals (and yes City even more than that)

Obviously we're far from favourites and I don't think we will win it but City have rode their luck just as much recently with some of their results

I also think mid to high 80's will win it. 45 points would mean we can only drop 12 points for the remainder of the season, that could be a tall order with having to play Spurs, Chelsea, Asenal and City away in the second half of the season.

I think we need to go on a winning streak now, putting together a win of 7/8 games and pile the pressure on our rivals in the hope that they also drop points. The cynical side of me thinks we'll fall just shy around the low 80's.

This idea that any team is levels above us is ludicrous.

There were people on here who thought Chelsea(yes Chelsea) were a level above us after their spending spree.

We might not win the title, but I highly doubt it's a gigantic gap should we lose.

The bookmakers have them as massive favourites which is a bit of a joke considering it’s so tight at the top. I guess it’s the current form & the “been there before” vibe from the team. This is our first title race with this crop of players, bar Dave, it does feel like we’re squeezing over the line a lot, Villa was another one, but who cares providing we get the 3 points.

And no I didn’t watch City, I rarely do, unless they are playing us, the game against them a couple of weeks back killed a bit of my hope not gonna lie.

No team will finish above 90 this year. If we keep the same consistency against the teams out of big 6 + Leicester (36 points from 39 possible), and improve our record against the big sides (by beating Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester at least), then 45-47 points are possible in the 2 half, and that may win us the title.

City are 1/50 for top 4.
Utd are 1/3

The problem they have is strikers. Aguero is their big miss

You know what, as long as we're in the race I'm happy with this. I don't think we're really ready in reality, I think we're overachieving but at the same time United used to do this to secure title after title so it's more than that I feel. As long as we're in this like this we should enjoy the road because every day on the top is great. City is dangerous and Liverpool have a manager that publicly accused United of being in cahoots with the refs, so the refs have to take us out of the title challenge to prove they aren't bias. If we're going to do this thing, we're going to trust ourselves like we did against Fulham and Burnley because they don't want us to win and will use any made up leverage and complaining to the f.a to get an edge in this race. It's terrible that nobody cares about the integrity of the league and come out to knock down the comments from Klopp and the media to reassure the neutral viewer of it's integrity. However, It's so predictable.

We can win the league this year, I think we are probably third favourites but to be honest I am just pleased we are in the mix and I am looking forward to games more and more as the season progresses.

I think we are still 2-3 signings away from being a very strong team but you can’t argue that we haven’t made progress.

LVG also kept clean sheets, he wasn’t anywhere close to winning any titles. If KDB’s injury is somewhat serious then that sucks the last bit of creativity out of them and they’re pretty much left with a team resembling LVG’s United.

And mad lucky that Villa don't score today.

They're like us, everything is going their way on top of good play.
Villa were really lucky today too with all their defensive blocks going straight out for corners or cleared after a second or third attempt...until the handball. Villa threatened yes and I think the most unlucky moment was Dias slipping in the box and the ball not deflecting into his own goal. Traore had that great first touch and drive into the box but his shot was tame at the end.

KDB is the only reason that City can continue to play without a recognized center forward/9. Without him, you're asking too much of Bernardo Silva or Foden takes that mantle and it's a new role he's never played.

I think we will need to get at least 90 points to fight for the title. However, I am quietly confident that we can win the games we need to win to do that. Then it all depends on the teams around us.

85 seems to be a the right amount to win the title this season. I really doubt you will need much more than that.

Big teams will drop points as much as they did in the first half with a lot of competitions are coming back thick and fast.

Can we get it? Depends on how fast our forwards find their form.

Under soil heating.
I don’t think we will do it but if we did it would mean the most to me, especially with everything going on. Give us hope United.

Losses can't happen. I think we are good enough to beat every single team outside of the big 6 and I'm confident we will.

More in my opinion. I think it will be 87 points or plus up to 90-93 points.

45 points for us from here on would mean City and Liverpool need to go at 2.35 PPG (City) and 2.55 PPG for Liverpool. I can’t see either doing that this season, City struggled vs Brighton and needed a ridiculous decision to win today. Can’t understand the fawning over them at the moment.

The date today is 21st January 2021

...and as it currently stands, the league is in our own hands*

*I hope I can continue to say this game after game, week after week.

Are you happy if we get 90 points but don’t win league this year ?
At the start of the season I'd bite your hand off. Now I want to take this title challenge as far as it goes first, but 90 points would still be a huge sign of intent from us, and would put us back among the top favourites for the title next season for the first time in a long time. Even though I'd always be happier with a title for obvious reasons, I'd never be unhappy with 90 points. We've never really been close to that tally since Fergie left.

United minus the Glazers
Surprised at all this talk around winning a title. The way we started today against Fulham really points to the horrible lapses we have during the course of a single match. Quite a few basic schoolboy errors.

AT the moment, we are team that dominates moments rather than matches. Until we can impose ourselves solidly for at least 60% of a game and learn to start with greater vibrancy/energy and purpose, the title will elude us.
