So it looks like we've made him available for loan and there's lots of Spanish sides that are interested.

Now it's a case of picking the team where he'll get plenty of minutes without playing at a low level.

Could be a good move for him.

We should send him to Eibar, I heard they've got their keeper on penalties, sounds like a right laugh.

Just done a quick search to see who the coach of Celta Vigo is and it's a Argentine coach called Eduardo Coudet who played as a right winger during his playing days. I've also found a Guardian article on him which describes his Celta team as the most fun team to watch in the league. I'm gonna assume Jonathan Shrager who broke the earlier news about the loan will end up being correct in his latest tweet which mentions Celta as the players potential loan destination. The guardian article below for for anyone that's interested.

Can't believe we are paying his 200k a week wages to play for another club.

Yeah, lot of la liga commentators - Sid Lowe, Graham Hunter, Jonas G, etc. have nothing but good things to say about Coudet. Aspas is having a hell of a season with them as well - crazy thinking how little chance he got at Liverpool.

I just read the Guardian article by Sid Lowe and he's (Coudet) pressing high and playing a high line at Celta and is working the players extremely hard that some are finding it difficult to walk after games due to the intense counter pressing.

It sounds like a good club to join under a coach with a well defined way of playing which suits attacking players. It'll be upto Pellistri to now apply himself and hopefully get into the team, if it is true that he's joining Celta.

He also managed Internacional, so he should know what transition is needed from SA football to Europe, but sounds like a good fit from reading.

Definitely sounds like a excellent fit all round. But he will have to prove his worth to get into the team and then to stay in it which is the difficult part. But if he does then it will potentially be a very successful loan.

Valencia are struggling so Even though me may get game time, he will also be on a team struggling for survival

I would rather Derby if he was going to get games. Settle into the culture. It makes a little more sense to loan him abroad to a less physical league if we are going to loan him again next season. A good championship loan could be enough to see him in contention for a first team spot here next year.

Agree with this after reading your initial post. From past words, Ole and the team are working hard to find the right clubs beneficial to the players growth. Garner for example at Watford seems a success already.

Better play at La Liga than in the championship, hopefully he'll get plenty of minutes in Valencia.

Im curious as to the logic in sending him to La Liga.

I know maybe its easier for the language and the culture but since I dont think Manchester United is moving to Spain another 6 months in England would help him settle more and learn english and like others have said it seems to make more sense to send him on loan in the championship.

It could be that we prioritize first team football at a good enough level so that after he's ready to come back, he'll be more ready to contribute at our level. And he won't be like a typical player coming from a less physical league because he's already had 6 months of English football experience (weather, language, etc...).

I suspect that the real issue is finding a club willing to give him mins at this stage, in a League that has as much in common with the PL as possible.

If you go through all the players on loan in the Championship this season on Transfermarkt or a similar website, you will discover that there are only 6 players who were under 20 at the start of their current loan and they all had first team experience for their parent club: Garner (Man United), Parrot and Skipp (Spurs), Branthwaite (Everton), Esteves (Porto), Elliott (Liverpool).

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cha...saison_id=2020&s_w=&leihe=2&intern=0&intern=1

By my count, the breakdown of Championship loans by age when they joined is 6 below age 20, 25 aged between 20-22 and 41 aged 23+.

As Pellistri turned 19 in late December and has no first team experience for United, it would be surprising if there was interest from Championship teams.

If you had said a League One team, then that would fit the pattern of recent years, as they have been far more willing to loan young players who have been playing U23s, though as we have seen with Dylan Levitt, they may come to the conclusion that the player isn't ready for the physical side of that League.

I haven't looked into La Liga loans but I would be surprised if Pellistri is ready to make an impact in a top European League at this stage, given his productivity in Uruguay's Primera Division and PL2 U23 League. There may be one or more teams that are in need of squad depth in his position and are willing to take the risk of loaning him.

As far as I can see, there are only 3 players currently on loan in La Liga who were under the age of 20 when they joined: Kubo (from Real Madrid), Gil (Sevilla), Mollejo (Atletico Madrid). Tavares (Benfica) made 3 sub appearances in La Liga for Alaves but has recently left to join Farense. Mollejo has been struggling to get mins for Getafe, just 4 sub appearances in La Liga this season so far. Even Kubo switched from Villarreal to Getafe due to limited playing time. It is interesting that Kubo, Gil and Mollejo all appear to be wide players.

Balanced perspectives
It's really quite funny how people look at a situation they have zero knowledge of and make judgements about specific people. All we have as fans is the odd interview but it's mainly just online hypothesising and people reading articles as of they are fact.

They have absolutely no idea what the individual they tlak about feels, how they act, what their goals or ambitions are, what they are like as a person, how arrogant they are or generally just anyrhing at all.

Doesn't stop them talking about what they think, feel etc as if they know though. Always makes me laugh when people go on about people's ego or what they want, what they are thinking etc because it's based on just conjecture or speculation 99% of the time.

You cna include talking about things they have absolutely no experience of and can't perceive what it's like to make that choice either. Like when people say what people should and shouldn't do with contracts or their career. Like, you're literally viewing this as if it's Fifa or Monopoly and have no way of empathising with some of the decisions these people have to make at all.

It's stunning, the amount of people who have such lack of awareness yet still feel entitled to act like they have some kind of informed opinion.
That's the internet for you!

Be nice to see the lad get a chance to play some 1st team games, though thought the FA Cup might have presented opportunity.

Think it would be beneficial if one of the teams still left in the Europa League took him on loan, could really help his development even more but quite honestly any side able to offer him regular football is good for us

Club Brugge would be a good option. By far the best team in Belgium, are still in the EL, had a good CL run, playing some nice football and they have just sold a winger to Monaco for 20m. He actually would get some game time, but I don't think he would start most games.

if he could get 10 starts, and 10 sub appearances from a loan, that would be a really good result.

just need to make sure he’s not going somewhere just to be a cheap back up player.

10 starts would be a bit optimistic, but I've never seen him play, so I can't judge his current level. I forgot, Club Brugge actually let 2 wingers go, Diatta to Monaco and Dennis to Köln and 1 false 9 in Schryvers. They did buy Bas Dost... There could be possibilities.

Brugge surely has to be the better option? Much easier to shine in the best team in the league rather than 4th bottom of a much harder league.

More similar to English football too, so surely better for his development.
Agreed. There's also an argument to say that it may be better for him to not play in a Spanish speaking country, as it may not transition him appropriately to the non-Spanish culture? I assume in Brugge he'd probably speak more English, which may be a better transition for him when returning to United. Maybe that's pushing it.

At United, we mostly play on the front foot, so it’s more important for Pellistri to polish his attacking skills, which is somewhat easier at Brugge. On the other hand, level of defenders in Spanish league is higher, so it’s not that obvious

He's already played in Uruguayan top tier. This FIFA ranking has Uruguay 8th best national team in the world. He should go to top tier football if possible, like TFM did.

Brugge would be better, but you can understand why he would want to go to Spain.

Gracias.

I had forgotten all about Angelo Henriquez, who brought with him a fair amount of hype.
