In the new video posted by Simon Stone it's clear Zlatan says "call your mother, do your voodoo shit"

and that's what makes Lukaku go for him saying "you want to talk about the mother"

Zlatan obviously knows the story and is just using it to wind him up - but it's not racism.
The story itself is racist so it’s clumsy at best, perpetuating a racist lie at worst. Don’t see how it’s defensive either way, the man is almost 40 and appears in the Kick It Out videos/No To Racism.

8 pages on whether mocking Lukaku with "voodoo" is racist? Blimey.

I suppose everyone must know the intimate personal history between Zlatan and Lukaku, what they used to "banter" about in the dressing room etc.
From Lukaku’s reaction, I am not sure he appreciated the ‘banter’ to be honest.

It's a reference to Lukaku's mum saying she got a voodoo message he should go to Chelsea right?

Only weird thing is Zlatan apparently following his fellow football players so closely he actually knew about this story.
They both had Raiola as agent.

I get it originated from that, but Zlatan is more taking the piss with bringing it up than trying to have a racial tone to it.

I don't know the lead up to why this even started but it's clear they're both trying to get each other sent off.

I agree it's silly but sledging happens in sport, no different than diving really.

The whole discussion is highly embarrassing.

Fact people are saying Ibra is racist and getting on like Lukaku is some sort of victim in all this is comedy, especially with his reaction before and after the exchange. ibra just threw some more petrol on it.

People are disappearing up their own arses these days with the debates.
I don’t think anyone has called Ibra racist at all? Just stated the words he used are arguably racially charged.

Most of the posters are racist if "donkey" is a racist term. I have just searched "donkey" here and got many results (e.g. Antonio, Kamara, Ings, Maguire, Martial, Rashford, Shaw, Carroll, Duncan Ferguson, Firmino... I have no time to list all of the players who were called "donkey" just in the last few days). The "voodoo" is a bit different, but that's part of Lukaku's story and I think Zlatan made a reference there. So I think that his intention is not racist, but these days you have to check the colour of the people and think through what to say, because you might be easily interpreted as racist (e.g. "donkey" seems to be racist for some odd reason).

They briefly played together at the same club, it would be weird if us fans know about it and he didnt.

His intentions are obvious, that doesn’t mean his language isn’t racist. The same for Suarez when he called Evra ‘negrito’ numerous times.

Obviously not, but he's clearly touchy about the "voodoo" thing from that claim about leaving Everton so it's hard to believe this wasn't mentioned in the dressing room.

These are the same teammates who had a bet of £50 for every decent first touch, so I'm sure there was a lot of piss taking and Zlatan knows exactly how to push Lukaku's buttons. However there's a huge leap from that to racism.

What is the connection between 'voodoo shit' and Islam and salat? Your earlier posts seem to be connecting them and now you're saying "lets not make it a thing".
If it wasn’t clear enough, I’ve heard this being said as a derogatory comment as I made the mistake of confusing Lukaku as Muslim.

As a black man who has lived in Luton during the beef between EDL and Asian/Black, and hearing people using “voodoo” as a derogatory term for general religion said by presumed EDL lot. Admittedly they’re aren’t the most clever bunch and probably just thought it was generally derogatory and not an actual belief that has origins in Africa. This is where I thought Ibra was Coming from.

So please don’t try and start pretending that I’m trying to say one equals the other or any other story you’re trying to create in this thread, as it’s completely and utterly not the situation.

Would voodoo comments be considered racist in zlatans native country? Cus if not, who are we to judge? :wenger:

In all seriousness, I don't think it's particularly racist, I think it's something any player of any race/ethnicity who wants to get under lukakus skin would bring up. I don't think zlatans is looking at how factually correct it is, more it's something he knows will piss Lukaku off.

A whole lot of nothing tbh.
Suarez was only saying what he said to get under Evra's skin though. If you attempt to insult someone by making reference to a racial characteristic (and let's be honest here- referring to voodoo is exactly that) then you should be called on it.

For balance, I'm not saying that this is what he said - it's difficult to tell. And he should only be charged if there is genuine evidence that he's actually said that. But IF it's established he said it, to attempt mitigate that by saying he was only trying to get under another players skin, or to suggest that because a black person might say it too, is not a legitimate defense.

I hope you're wrong about the United dressing room making fun of Lukaku for getting racist lies spread about himself, I would be very sad if that was the case.

Grow up ffs, what is it with these projecting comments form of debates. Trying to be funny on about garden sheds and stadiums, feck me. Donkeys live in little wooden sheds, in cartoons, in my head, in films. If they don’t in your world so be it.

looks like confirmed he said voodoo anyway so you can hop back on your racism train now and try and find some more funny comments To try and look cool with
Wooden sheds was clearly nonsense and logically made no sense to me and just seemed a bizarre claim. It's been confirmed to be wrong so I don't see why you're getting so annoyed.

Throwing your toys out of the pram while telling me to grow up and accusing me of acting cool is pretty rich.

Are donkeys horses?
The donkey or ass (Equus africanus asinus) is a domesticated member of the horse family, Equidae. The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ass, E. africanus. The donkey has been used as a working animal for at least 5000 years.

I'm mistaken, but it's not really relevant whether the word was 'negro' or 'negrito'. Arguing semantics is just a strawman response to the argument we are having here.
It's not. From what I remember usage of 2 words has difference and it's hilarious that people still come up with "Suarez called him Negrito". Looks like Liverpool PR machine worked really well.

Suarez was Racist twat, will have to see if Zlatan is one too.

Thank you! Can they be ridden?

It makes sense to randomly bring up a little wooden shed which doesn't exist? Logically I don't see it. Do garden sheds spring to mind when your in football stadiums?

You're reaching here. Besides, according to Sky Italia AC Milan reps have said it was a reference to the voodoo story at Everton so it wasn't 'anything'.

He said the voodoo thing and whether you or me think it's racist or not is a different matter entirely.
To be fair 'Go to your shed, you donkey' makes much more sense to me than Voodoo stuff.

Funny how people are just debating whether or not Zlatan is a racist but not if Lukaku is a sexist. Helena has been informed that she’s going to get raped.
Can we stop with this stuff?

He said 'feck you and your wife'

He didn't threaten to rape anyone and I'd have stronger terms for someone doing so than 'sexist'.

Well it is, because the word 'negrito' is still racially charged, whether it's a term of affection or not. Any research or understanding into the connotations and origins of the word will tell you that.

It's a pointless conversation at this stage but it was claimed to be 'wooden shed' to fit with the three syllables of 'voodoo shit'

'Wooden shed' seemed completely out of place and highly unlikely.

If he'd said "goto your stable, you donkey", it would've made sense.

Donkeys don't live in sheds, nothing lives in a shed apart from the odd spider.
From someone whose first language isn't English I'd no problem accepting the translation.

Voodoo seems more out of place to me but you're right it is pointless. It was all bizarre and unnecessary.
