Said it before and said it again, he is a box to box midfielder, not a DM.

obviously the opposition were poor tonight, but I think McTominays capacity to contribute in an attacking sense is vastly underrated. He is good in the air and has a strong shot, and usually a good finisher when given the chance to show it.

not suggesting he should be our new #10, but I think signing a proper DM in the summer to free up McT (or Fred) should be a priority.

He's always been a B2B. He plays much better there and always looks awkward playing DM.

Might of been seriously hurt in that bad tackle at the start, but he went on to play a magnificent game.
Grew into it and totally commanded the midfield in the 2nd half.
I gave Shaw MoM in the 1st and Scott MoM in the 2nd.

His passing is drastically improving as time goes on, but just needs to look for the pass more.

Great game.

The weight of his passes was phenomenal, where did that come from? Switches of play, passes through the lines... he should be doing this every week

A good all round, all action performance. He's trademarking that low drive isn't he?

What a guy. Brilliant tonight. You can tell he was loving it out there, after their guy tried to chop suey him, I mean.

Great performance today. His drive forward on the pitch is exciting. It adds a lot to our play. He is our only midfielder (when Pogba leaves) who is able to create unbalance from a deeper position; force himself and the ball from one zone to another

Love the Sauce. Some great passing and that goal is starting to become a trademark of his.

Looks much more comfortable as a #8 driving forward using shorter passing, really took the game on in the second half and smashed home a lovely struck shot to top it off, lucky he didn't get injured from that horrific challenge.

He's probably got the best strike for us outside the box. Smashes the ball so low and cleanly precise.

Was absolutely unplayable in that second half.

I keep repeating, he is a good passer if he makes quick decisions. It's when he overthinks he loses the ball.

Fantastic performance. Granted we had it easy, but he moved the ball quickly, and always made the right choice. Very complete performance.

The way he shoots and passes the ball super straight is beautiful.

MOTM.

His determination leading to key incident and from that moment it's game over... nice goal too.

Good shot for his goal, one super cross that was well defended and a few decent passes between the lines in the 2nd half. Also got fouled for the early red card.

That cross is something he should produce more often.

His shooting is fantastic, he's scored this same goal for us many times now.

He can strike a football and his close control is very good. I also like how he attacks the space when he has the ball at his feet.
A good option for us.

I think he’s a much better player than Fred or Matic.

5 goals so far this season, would love if he can get close to 10.

My favorite play wasnt even the goal. It was that direct pass he made where he faked it out wide then put it straight to Martial/Fernandes. Need more of that because it can easily disorganize a compact defense

He had a very good game.
Also football gods were on his side today, was very lucky to escape serious injury.

Very good today, when he is allowed to play higher up the pitch he is quite capable of affecting games, good ball carrier and evidently a good striker of the ball. Reminds me a lot of Goretzka when he truly plays box-to-box.

Hopefully we'll soon step away from the idea of him being a holding midfielder..This is the 'McFred' that I'd be happy to see more often.

He's noticeably learning how to use his frame from watching Matic and Pogba. He did this little half-skill they both do a lot when receiving the ball under pressure where he just waits a moment longer than normal before actually intercepting it, which means the ball is already past the incoming tackle when he takes it, and he can sidestep the man and then move off away from him really smoothly. Hard to describe it in words. It's very understated and very efficient and can only be done by someone who knows he's 1) strong enough that he can't just be pushed off it by the oppo and 2) has soft enough feet to get the touch just right. It's almost Matic's signature move and it was so interesting to see Scott doing it a couple of times today.

He's got hidden depths. I think he might end up being even better than his supporters expected. This season all the ingredients are there to be a fully-rounded top class B2B midfielder.

Agree, it was his pass that created the chaos and he deserved the ball breaking to him the way it did.
He’s growing in stature about 20% per season and not finished yet.
Has a lot of Roy Keane about his play.

Is he still growing?! When the team gathered around him to celebrate his goal it was like pre-school kids around the teacher.

Not his toughest match, but was pretty imperious.Absolutely flinging in passes to their box.

Can't say if he's still growing, but that foot gets more dynamite with each screamer.

Played like a hybrid between prime Fletch and prime Carrick.

That goal, like his goal vs City last year was pure filth.

Yeah, it’s fortunate that it didn’t catch his knee.

He honestly probably has a big future as a B2B midfielder, he looks so much better with attacking freedom.

For me he can replace Pogba. His passing maybe not as good or long ranged but he can score goals from midfield whilst being an influence defensively when playing midfield.

I wouldnt be surprised if his passing will improve further the more he enters his prime.

Are Deep lying playmakers essential in today's sport when nearly all CB'S are ball playing defenders that can play a ball from deep?

Maybe we just get a ball winning CDM that can let box to box players like Fred or Mctomminay play freely whilst also holding a creative CAM.
