Oh but he's only good enough for the championship...
Always above championship but probably closer to championship than a top club
He did go the whole of last season without a goal or assist for Man Utd...that’s canny hard to do for a attacking player
2 goals for westham don’t change that

How could Lingard score 2 goals today? It was for the first time ever he scored a brace, probably...

In a season when he only played 932 league minutes. The likes of Martial and Pogba have gone on longer droughts.

And why did he only play that many? Because he is no good here, thank you West Ham hope he does well so they buy him

It's hard not to cheer for this guy. He's one of our own and it's great to see him start off well at West Ham with a brace. Unfortunately I didn't see it though. I was watching the dippers drop points to yet another bottom 6 team...

Because he wasn't good enough to dislodge Greenwood or Bruno. But that doesn't make him close to Championship level as you alluded to.

Don't care at all how he does, clearly not good enough to play consistently here.
He's good enough to be a squad player, but his confidence was completely drained after his personal problems at home and the the abuse he got online from United fans.

A new start was the right move for him. Not because he isn't 'good enough'. More so because he needed a change of scenery.

Obviously the only normal response is to be pleased he had a great debut. How fecking bitter do you have to be to not care how a United player gets on on loan? And that’s without even getting into his homegrown, local lad status. So he obviously deserves a bit more goodwill than most. People are weird.

He's easily good enough for the top half of the PL.

And the gap between PL and Championship is massive because of the difference in revenues. Lingard is far closer to the top of the PL than the top of the Championship.

To be fair, second goal was really poor goalkeeping. Yet 2 goals are 2 goals

Very pleased for him. I've always thought if pool can get 25m for some of their reserves then lingard would easily fetch 40m, covid times however so not sure of value now. He is however perfectly capable of being a valuable player for most clubs in the PL.

Agree to disagree, never liked him as a player had a great opportunity at utd and just didn’t seem to want it other than stupid celebrations and constant social media at a time when the club was hurting

we used to boot players like that out, United has to come first and it just doesn’t for lingard.

get a grip. So what he practices celebrations.

I’d much prefer a Shearer, right arm in the air and a handshake - but that’s not the reality now.

he made some valuable contributions to the club.

Good debut! Happy for him.

I don’t understand why people hate him. Alright, he wasn’t good enough for here, but why do you want still want to belittle him now that he plays elsewhere? Just let it go.

I hope he returns and becomes a useful squad player especially during cup games. He has the right work ethic but seems to have needed a change of environment.

A few years ago, when Lingard was young, somebody called him young. And for some reason, it's now become hilarious to keep repeating it.

Really, it's just a stick to beat him with.
It's not somebody it was pundits on TV - one of them was a former Utd player aswell i think
And he was 25 at the time

edit: It was Keane and Neville

Same age as Martial now. He still gets called young.

3 years later and it's flogging a dead horse. I guess there's no accounting for humour, but this isn't even something you could kind of explain away.

It's sounds as though the issues are personal to yourself but you're taking it out on Lingard.

I seem to recall him scoring 4 goals in one game on one of his previous loan spells and it may have been his debut....hope he does well.

Happy for him, everyone needs a few good days to keep the dark clouds away...especially with the way the world has gone the last 18 months.
