City, they seem unstoppable at the moment.

Personally I think Liverpool are out of it, it’s a big gap and they’ll drop plenty more points - so it’s now between the two Manchester clubs. Next 6 fixtures are pretty horrific for City, you’d think it’s an opportunity for you to get back infront, and from there there’s only 10-12 games left and it’ll feel in touching distance.

I would say though that if City are still top in 6 games time then I’d be quietly confident, and we’ve got the luxury of a little buffer to navigate this tough period - it’d be a big chunk of difficult games out of the way ahead of the run in.

Next 6:
Liv A, Spurs H, Everton A, Arsenal A, Wham H, United H.

Out of City supposed tough fixtures coming up, I think only West Ham or us are likely to get anything from them. I think they'll beat the rest fairly comfortably.

We (United) will continue to steadily get 2-2.2 points per game as we have done for an year now. Which means basically about 76-80 points for the season. I can see City surpassing that easily. But if they get into a downward spiral for some reason then we will come into the picture.

You need to check your maths. 21/38 isn’t 3/4 of the season.

We lost a league title on GD when 8 points clear with 5 games to go.
There is no need to be so condescending. I said almost 3/4 of the season. 7 more games is hardly far off. That season was an anamoly.

I don't mean it in any condescending way but it is way off when it's 2 games past half the season. Saying there's almost half a season left is way closer to the truth than 1/4 and it's definitely early for "it's over for the rest of the league" even if City beat liverpoo. They went from looking quite shaky and spent to playing at their very best. It's not like the opposite can't happen again.

Essentially, what you're saying here is that 58% isn't far off 75%. In most contexts that's a ridiculous claim and this is one of those contexts.

City will win against Liverpool on Sunday and seal the title. It's a shame because apart from them the race is wide open this year with all the big teams constantly losing random matches they shouldn't lose. Could've been one of the most entertaining title races in years.

Don't think it gets more exciting than the 18/19 title race to be honest, unless you only consider it interesting if it's with more than 2 teams.

Definitely the bolded part. Also, while 18/19 was tense till the end, as @Judas said it didn`t really have a lot of twist and turns. City overtook you when you drew with Everton (I think?) and from that on it was a robotesque winning streak from both teams up until the end.

Probably the worst close title race of all time and that is me trying to ignore the two teams that were in it.

Well yeah, if you only consider it an interesting title race when there's multiple teams involved and lots of twists and turns, you'll only get those every so often because one twist too much to one side and your whole title race altogether is dead in the water. Agreed with your original post in that case, I don't think this one will be interesting because no one will keep up with City's consistency. They'll just gradually increase the gap imo.

I don't know the exact way that it went in 18/19 anymore, but I think we had a lot of our games before City did, so we always put pressure on them to keep winning their own games.

Not only, just "more" interesting. 18/19 was great but still pretty much straight forward I thought, 13/14 for example had more twists. The rare occasions when >2 teams are involved are the best in my opinion.

Just a quick reminder what the table looked like after 11 games:

Not saying City are going to implode like Spurs did, but it's clearly far from over. Not a single team this season has seemed invulnerable to dips in form.

They have the surest footing to build on though in that their defence is rock solid. Not just in terms of clean sheets but pretty much any underlying stat you want to look at. And if one of their CBs gets injured they have Laporte (arguably perceived as their best defender before the start of the season) to come in.

Nobody is invulnerable to dips in form but I'd put good money on City being less likely to suffer those dips than us or Liverpool over the rest of the season.

Hate to point it out, but all you're demonstrating is how insanely efficient City have been since then. It's going to take a collapse beyond anything we've seen in years/an injury crisis at the back for City not to walk it from here on out. They're on a different level right now.

Would say the leicester one was most interesting last 6-7 years. Of course you had the fairytale aspect of it and likes of Arsenal and Man. City were still hovering around mid March before both fell away. Spurs then came in with a great run and looked likely to push things to the final game but they then drew a couple and that was it and Leicester won it by 8-9 points in the end incredibly but the gap was pretty small in that February as it is now.

Thought that was rather a case of "will Leicester keep it up or will they crumble" rather than an actual title race. Memory could be tricking me but I don't think Spurs ever were close to overtaking them.

Same but for reasons stated earlier we're in the minority. It was an absolute quality race with several moments like Kompany's goal. I'm sure Liverpool had some last gasp victories in that time frame too.

Arsenal beat Leicester 2-1 on 14th Feb 2016 and were 2 points off them at that stage as were Spurs, Man. City 6 back.

In typical lastWenger decade fashion Arsenal then lost to that Man. United youth team in the next league match and never recovered any momentum in the season until they were miles off Leicester.

Also this from a few weeks later, I presume given Spurs would've gone top if they'd won their 28th game they bottled it and lost but they were right on Leicester until late April of that season.

Edit: Lost 1-0 at West Ham.

Ah fair enough then, that was quite close late in the season indeed.

Yeah, the 2014 title race was brilliant. Shame it had to involve those two.

Also, the 11/12 one was, unfortunately, incredibly exciting. Can't beat that final day. Even if I'd rather forget it.

I think this may be the only chance we'll have in our lifetime to win the same title number as the year - 21 in 21. Just for that reason, please be us.

Obviously if we do win, we can make it 22 in 22 next season too and then see how long we can keep that going for.

In all honesty though, City are definitely favourites. If they drop a couple of points in the next few games you never know. We just need to make sure we're there to capitalize if/when that does happen.

While that would be nice, we never win at Anfield and probably never will. Though this is probably our best chance in yonks we couldn't win there when they were a midtable team.

As a city fan that run in was ridiculous. Every game you knew it had to be a win because Liverpool were not going to drop a single point, the definition of pressure. I understand it wasn't that great for other supporters but it sure was for us, especially the Leicester game when it looked all over a draw.
Utd have become a bit of a win machine, they have some bollocks and Bruno doesn't get injured, it's gonna be close.

The trophy comes to Manchester. Red or Blue though might be a close call depending on how far United go in the EL and how far City go in the UCL.

Leicester will lose steam and Liverpool will have a thin squad due to more players getting injured.

Top 4 would be City/United, Liverpool, Chelsea

City obviously are huge favourites. I feel if they win at Anfield it’s mostly guaranteed, we are good but can’t match their consistency. They were in the bottom 10 after 8/9 games and since then have been flawless. I obviously don’t want city to win the league but if we finish 2nd within 10 points it’s been some progress

City have had a 6 game spell where they played Villa, and 5 fairly poor teams.

Let's see how they do over their next 3-4 games before declaring them champs in early Feb in a delayed season.

They will drop points but so would we
Let’s start by smashing Everton Tomorrow

Difficult to see past City but the fact we’re in the mix is pleasing and even more so that it looks beyond the scousers.

It’s been a funny season though so it could all change, can’t put it past Liverpool getting something against city at the weekend.

If there was ever a time to bag a win a Anfield this is it.

I am not giving up on the title yet. We have made it hard for ourselves but City will have games piled up on one another come April, given Europe. We need to stay in touch and hope.
