Something bigger finally happened, solid Expanse episode, perhaps enough to make people hungry for more.

Drummer heavily involved in combat, Inaros making shit explode... can't complain.

So I guess they re-shot some of the scenes following Alex' death after the allegations against the actor became public?

The Alex write off was dodgy as feck. A stroke  obviously that had to do it but is that the best they could come up with for the most badass pilot in space?

Good finale though, even if it felt like some of it was lost on me having not read the books.

Under a tree.
I was wondering when filming for this was done to release it but its seem to have just been wrapped up before the pandemic started in February.

New big production shows/seasons are still trickling through but it's going to be interesting around the new year to see what comes out as I imagine most the stuff completed before lockdown and gone through post production would be drying up now..
Alex's death had to be a re-shoot with the season already being in post around the time the pandemic started, plus the death was so understated, no way it was in the original script, and from there on in they seemed to make it as forgetful as possible...he's basically become the live action Poochie.
i am not sure they needed to go down the road of killing off the character instead of recasting...

I haven't seen the episode yet, and without giving away too much, stroke is a common concern in that universe when you're doing high-G stuff on juice.

Meh season. Not enough Sci-Fi stuff IMO.

Also Naomi, Inaro and their son are all terrible actors. They make me cringe pretty often.

One of my favorite shows on television with the last kingdom and star trek enterprise.
I love the whole universe that they have created. I even thought it would be a great open world game, with the 3 factions and the stations all over the solar system .
I've never been very good at cataloging actors but they haven't been a problem for me either. Maybe I see them part of the set and I can't imagine anyone other than Avasarala and her voice.
In the same way, I wouldn't highlight Amos over the rest. At different points in the series his role seemed to be to make minor repairs while threatening or frowning.
However in this season, Alex and the Martian girl spent three episodes in the same position, sitting on the ship. Maybe it could have been better.
At the end of the first season I was about to start reading the books, which I did not do and now I regret it since I suppose that the experience will not be the same.

I don't know how I feel about this. It's nice watching the show not knowing what happens next. (The show has caught up to the last book I've read)

The show will never match your imagination, but it's a really fecking good show imo. Maybe read the books after season 6?

I read the books after season 3 and the earlier books were not diminished, everything seems more fleshed out, expansive and epic. Then I went ahead of the show and I feel like seasons 4/5 were slightly underwhelming as a result.

Yeah i don't see much of acting issue. For me the styles fit quite naturally, some are odd but i ascribe that to the characters mannerisms rather than bad acting. I always assumed the shows direction was for it's characters to have that sober style.

I think people just don't like certain characters which is fair enough.

Enjoyed this season very much.

That looks promising, thanks, I think I'll try now to see how it works, trying to forget about the characters of the show

I'm also more in the poor acting camp but I quite enjoyed the finale. Expectations were kind of low after the borefest that was the second half of the season but that was good entertainment and nicely sets up season six. But boy was I hoping Naomi would die in space.

Now that's an idea, open world or a Homeworld type strategy with deep level of political management... it begs to be made someday. Could even happen if the franchise will continue to expand.

What a great episode to finish the season. Proper send off till the next one.

Remember that episode when he gets ejected into space? I thought to myself "So this is how they get rid of him... nice", only to be rescued in the last second.

Dying from a stroke makes technical sense, I guess.

A great season ending as good as any previous season.

Maybe the whole season could have done with being one episode shorter in the middle.

I also have no idea how they're going to tell the story in the next season with all the potential storylines they have to use...

It's safe to assume, next season will be open ended with loads of unanswered questions...

I enjoyed that finale but
wtf sort of shit way to kill off Alex was that? Did that happen in the book or was he hurriedly killed off because of the real life allegations?

It was announced prior to the release of season 5 when season 6 was confirmed that he wasn’t coming back. One might infer that by stating that they were dropping him due to these allegations, regardless of what happens in the books.

Spoiler rules prevent me from saying more unless you want more information in a PM.

I'm not sure what the spoiler rules are, but can you say whether the book has deviated from the show because their hand was forced due to the allegations? I don't want to know any more than that for fear of spoiling it for myself! Mind you, I'll probably have forgotten this conversation by the time season 6 comes out.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Got around to watching all the Season 5 episodes over the last few days. It's how I tend to watch most shows and I think it especially helped during the middle of this season where it did get a bit slow. If I were watching it as they released I probably would have got a bit more bored during that period while I was waiting each week. Overall a decent season with a few big things happening that I wish had been made more important in the show (should have been more than just a couple of million people dying), but it didn't feel like 10 episodes worth of content. Just feels like less happened than in previous seasons.

Because I stay away from anything that could be spoilers I had no idea Cas Anvar was in the shit, so him dying so suddenly was a big surprise. When Bobby was out there rescuing Naomi (a fantastic scene) I had a feeling something big might happen and was half expecting a Free Army ship to come along and blow the Razorback up, then those two float out there alone until the Roci arrives. Maybe they would have done it that way if they'd known beforehand, but obviously now I know why the way it happened felt so anticlimactic.

In terms of the acting I'm fine with Naomi and really like Avasarala most of the time, but both have the occasional moment that's a bit cringe. Holden, Inaros and Filip all struggle along, although as somebody up above said Filip has the perfect look considering his parents. I've liked Camina in previous seasons and thought the issue in this one was more the storyline and directing rather than her, although she probably should continue being a side character rather than getting too much screen time. I do agree with others that the standouts all seem to be gone now though, with Miller, Fred, Ashford and Dawes all gone (fingers crossed Dawes makes a return).

Sorry yea that's what I meant.
While trying to keep it as spoiler free as I can, there is some amount of deviation in that the new chap who looks to be replacement for Alex on the show doesn't have the personal relationship with rest of the crew of the Roci and Alex, by reason of not being dead in the books, continues to organically grow the relationships he has with each member of the crew of Roci.

fecking hell, calm down, Satan.

I think the few million comment was after the first meteor hit, so there were likely many more deaths after the others impacted.

Let us hope this sates his appetite for mass genocide!

Yeah, I really wouldn't want RedCafe to be part of the origin story of a new supervillain.

I agree. The belters diction is possibly why some don't like them. I think Inaros is a pretty good villain.

I loved series 5. 4 was good but a bit pointless.
I think Inaros was actually a perfect casting and was a bit shocked to see all the criticism here. He's every bit as insane as he should be. It's exactly how I imagined the character.
