That has always bugged me. But then again, when one of those Low Roar tracks kicks in as you've trekked across miles of barren wasteland
It baffles me. Considering the music was developed for the game I just find it odd how you cant choose to listen to it on a journey.

I'm still expecting Sam to receive a music player from one of his costumers. :D

Did i imagine that Kojima just used Low Roar tracks without getting permission?

I might be misremembering but I wouldn't put it past the mad bustard

I'd love to replay this on the PS5 one day. Been over a year since I completed it and I'm still really fond of the whole experience I had. Every time I see this thread bumped I think, damn that was a great game despite a few flaws here and there.

I demand a sequel Kojima

Terrific game. Story went a little too bonkers eventually but all in all I liked that aspect too. The game mechanics and concepts were so refreshing and well out together.

Music wasn't developed for the game, it is mostly from Low Roar, and he contacted them after he heard main trailer theme song randomly in some store and hung out with the singer etc, so it wasn't without permission.

Played an hour last night (by played I mean watched 50 minutes of cutscenes), but I’m liking it so far. The story seems interesting and creepy enough so far so looking forward to playing a bit more later.
You ditched it for Spiderman.

Bollocks that you were liking it. So why don't you tell us your real feelings? Thank you.

I downloaded this on my PS4 few days ago. Will start playing it soon. Let's see what all the fuss was about.

It’s a fantastic game and I think it’s probably better to play now, a while after the hype / excitement / divided opinion stage with fresh eyes. I really liked it and I fell out of love with Kojima games after MGS3.

Beautiful to look at and in some ways really relaxing.

I was liking it. However it’s been a long time since I played a Kojima game and I forgot it’s 30 minutes of cutscenes for every 5 minutes of gameplay. Would rather just get through some other games first then get to this when I’ve perhaps got some time off work.

It took you a day to come up with that explanation. So you forgot a Kojima game has 30 mins cut scenes? Aren't you supposed to be a big MGS fan? Have you even played them? Perhaps got some time off work? That all sounds very vague to me.

It seems like you want to sweep it under the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist. Imagine being surprised when a Kojima game has a lot of cutscenes. That's our Elvis!

It does have a lot of menus and animations but it's not that heavy on cutscenes considering its a Kojima game. The biggest accusation people levy against it is that the gameplay loop is repetitive and uneventful (lots of walking etc).

But I friggin loved it. Fantastic experience.

Will never understand the walking simulator complaints. This can only be complaint if people played only the beginning of the game, later on there is tons of other means of moving around than walking.

Yeah, I'm no massive fan of the MGS games because of the daft amount of cutscenes, but I'm struggling to remember that many in this one. It's slow pace and as you say lot of menus and that, but that's part of it's beauty that there's a huge problem with the world but you still have to take things slow and figure it all out.

As far as "walking simulators" go, which of course is a stupid tag anyway, this one is at the very top. It is marmite though, so not everyone should be expected to get the point.

There's a lot of cutscenes at the start and end in fairness. But you're right - they break up the game a lot less than in MGS.

I think it was around MGS V where Kojima (and his crew) made it so the player could play the game while the story flowed, mainly through voice memos. Before, that sort of thing happened almost exclusively in cutscenes and codec conversations. They were very movie-like.

Absolutely. But people who want "action" packed games would see this as drab affair. Hence, the amazon delivery dumbing down (although it is true). Like I said, I absolutely loved. I've never enjoyed traversal that much in a game. They really nailed that feeling of making every step feel meaningful and weighty. Plus the world building and scenery was great too.

I've always been a fan of the MGS series. But I don't necessarily need a game to be one specific way. For the MGS series (before V), the cutscenes heavy experience suited it. I've never been floored by a game as I was by the MGS2 demo on the ship with the encounter with Olga. Now, that was next gen. MGS3 was just phenomenal, and I remember, one would look forward to cutscenes in those games rather than be like "sigh, another one". I lapped it all right up. But of course there are other games which are all about the gameplay and that's what's at the essence of those experiences.

I don't have a PS5 but from what I've heard about the controller wouldn't this be the perfect game to utilize it? The haptic feedback thingy and the environment in this game would be really cool to experience.

I do hope they upgrade it for the PS5.

This is what's stopping me going back to this. The thought of the things Kojima will do with the dual sense gives me a semi.

I bought this in the sale and I think I'm enjoying it? There's a hypnotising quality to ticking off fetch quests, and I spent a few months in first lockdown doing some Deliveroo deliveries so I guess it's nostalgic to reprise my role as a post apocalyptic delivery man. I'm interested enough in the world that's been created here, and I can't wait until my fecking BB cnut gets himself killed like the game has been teasing since I got him. It also does feel like there's something more to it, and it seems to at least create the illusion that there's some deep cinematic depth to the game.

But like everything Kojima he needed to be slapped around the head a bit and told no. I've never felt like a game was missing a pissing simulator before, and the combat feels like a particularly shitty afterthought. It's almost as if the game wants you to avoid it, but then it rewards you handsomely for getting involved in it. I suspect I will finish it, but then I felt like that with MGS5 and just one day never bothered to turn it back on again; lots of the same menu based issues here too.

I don’t think I’ve ever had so many mixed feelings playing a game. It was slow to start, but around chapter 3 or 4 I really got into it and even the standard orders became pretty addictive (the ‘one ... more ... turn’ quality of Civ games sprang to mind).

And then:

I got to Heartman’s lab, and I did not enjoy a single second of the game. The Mountain deliveries were utterly tedious and the amount the game goes out of its way to waste your time from Edge Knot onwards is atrocious. Whoever’s idea it was to make you traipse back to Capitol with no fast travel needs to have serious words with themselves. 5 hours of unskippable cut scenes explaining in detail a game I’d long lost patience for was the shit cherry on top of the icing.

Such a shame, because there’s genuinely a fantastic concept and idea in there which sinks under the sheer weight of fat that needs to be trimmed off it.

Going back-and-forth between Hartman's lab and delivering too various other inhabitants around that particular area was an ass, granted.

Just a reminder that if you own this game and haven't played it yet then you're a savage.
It's on sale for PSN for around 15 pounds, but I'm on the fence about buying it or not. A walking simulator doesn't sound that fun.

It's fun in parts but the majority of the game isn't really. Although thats why I think it's great tbh.

It's such a weird and wonderful game.

Well I decided to get at this price anyway. I'm not really that much into Kojima games, but at this price I guess it's worth giving it a try. I have loads of time anyway to waste.

I found the game to be perfectly paced and because of that I appreciated the games craftmanship more.

Saying this game is "only walking simulator" is like saying Call of Duty is "mouse clicking simulator", we can describe every game like that. I mean, hour into the game and you can drive vehicles and later use so many other means to travel.

Death Stranding is so much more than "just a walking sim". I had a great time from first minute of it to the end. There was no "you have to wait so and so hours so it becomes interesting" to me. I am pretty old gamer so I guess I have more patience for games and I find FPS games boring compared to this.

I know this sounds like a cliche and like something from "Kojima fanboys" textbook, but I find this game a masterpiece. And no, I am not a Kojima fanboy, there are quite a few MGS games I didn't like that much.

Yeah. When you're face to face with a giant oily whale that turns the landscape into an black ocean, forcing you to jump on buildings that are floating away so you can throw your blood filled grenades at the thing, it becomes so much more.

It's hard to say no at that price. MGSV and the PT demo were the only Kojima games I liked before playing Death Stranding, so I was expecting to kind of hate it but in the end I thought it was brilliant.

Having loads of free time is a must with this game. I spent hours and hours doing non story quests, just going around a helping others.

I loved this game once the story developed, i know i shouldn't of enjoyed it as it really is as simple as walking from one point to another with some silly gimmick mini games within the process.

I think some of the boss fights were great, visually and gameplay wise. I really enjoyed the story even if its stupidly farfetched and a little silly.

The core gameplay is boring as hell and absolute trash but the rest sort of saves it for me personally.

I wasnt a fan of the FPS elements. The first few experiences with BTs were nerve wrecking and being forced to shoot them to death with an increasingly lethal range of weaponry jarred with my enjoyment of the games premise of being a post apocalyptic delivery man.

Just give me Act 3 and building roads between the cities and I'm happy.

Just started this today. The artistic elements are certainly very nice, but I find it very confusing. I'm not really sure what i'm supposed to do when forging equipment and I have no idea why I'm running around with a baby fetus and I forgot what i'm supposed to do when its crying.
