I've just started playing Will of the Wisps and I think I like it a bit more than the first game so far. Combat feels a little more defined, which is good. It feels a bit more like Hollow Knight, especially since they've added a similar charms system, but more platforming oriented like the first game.
I played it straight after the first game and I found it pretty easy in comparison which is why I don't think I enjoyed it as much. It's still brilliant and it's obviously a more polished and even more beautiful game, but I feel like I'd have appreciated it even more if I'd waited in between the two.

They are both incredible games though and the first especially is probably in my top 10 games of the last decade, it's just that good.

I grabbed Blind Forest on Switch last week.

It's gorgeous but I don't feel it's aged particularly well.

The combat is shallower than a worms grave and I find the platforming unnecessarily fiddly at times.

I'm sure I would have loved this at launch, but comparing it to other Metroidvainia games that have released since it seems very lacklustre.

Wow really? I only played it on gamepass last year and loved it. What games do you think it compares unfavourably to?

Mainly Hollow Knight, which is superior in almost every way.

I probably will get back to Ori, but I couldn't tear myself away from Hollow Knight. I get frustrated very quickly with Ori and find it a bit dull tbh.

I really must give HK another go. I couldn't get into it at all at first, but I'm not a massive fan of games that have the whole "just sort of find your own way around". I do like to have a "goal" which Ori did.

It's been a while since I played Hollow Knight but I don't remember not being sure where to go. If you do break through with it though I'm sure you'll see where I'm coming from re Ori.

I will go back to Ori, I'm not very far into it (only just got double jump) and see if it grips me more, but so far it's style over substance for me.

Fantastic games, played them both on PC the platforming is perfect quick snappy precise controls and quite a challenge in some parts, the perfect amount of difficulty.

Super enjoyable once you get it down especially some of the side scrolling chase scenes they are incredible.

It's a nice surprise when you get a game that takes you back to the old days of difficulty instead of the super easy games which make up 95% of the market.

I often check the website how long to beat before starting a game https://howlongtobeat.com/

it is way off for me for Will of the Wisps.

I reckon I’m already about 15 hours in and loads more to go. I only just opened another new area up a evening I had no idea existed

Think it took me about that. And I was fairly thorough but not completionist thorough.

It felt like longer though, but not in a bad way at all, somehow.

Poor shriek
Yeah very sad. It’s incredible the emotion they achieved with very little speaking.

Every time the thread is bumped I feel the need to post how much I love this game. Digital Foundry did a great interview with the devs too that‘s worth checking out.

Ok now I've realised I was giving @b82REZ shit because I got @Bosws87 and him mixed up

Another brilliant MS exclusive though ey, Bos?
Great game, if only they could produce titles like this on a consistent basis. You should try just enjoying games irrespective of platform its great

Just finished WOTW 100%, nice improvement over the first game in general. However, just like in the first game, I feel the big moments were also the weakest parts of the game, i.e. the escape sequences which I really hate and the boss fights which are just meh. I think I've been spoiled by Hollow Knight. The combat in WOTW lacks precision. Fortunately the platforming, visuals and audio are all top notch which more than makes up for the lacklustre combat.

I've played a few hours of this and while I like it, it seems very frustrating. The controls aren't very precise and the visual design of spike-like obstacles means it often feels unfair when you get hit. Wall jumping is also annoying with how slippy it feels.

I loved Blind Forest but it’s a very uneven game in terms of difficulty and traversal. WotW is far more accessible.

I remember having the same thoughts re: wall jumping. It gets better when you get used to it.
