Definitely my MOTM. His effort was a clear step up from many others on the pitch and took his goal really well. Well played sir.

Grew into the game after the goal. Good for him to get that goal after Ole praised him in the press.

Still dont see a United player in him.

Took his goal extremely well which allowed the team to settle into the game and keep the attacks alive.. excellent work rate which was never an issue for him, I liked how he helped Wan Bissaka and doubled up with him on Saint-Maxamine.

His crossing and decision aren't good enough but we shouldn't complain today.. he's done well overall and deserves to be our MOTM for his goal which came at a great time in the 2nd half.

Had a very good second half. I'm always pleased for an out of favour player to get a little boost to their confidence.

Just work a bit on calmly crossing the ball.. and he'll be really good. Its certainly something that he can improve on if he puts in the time. Gets into some really good positions.. then the cross is a bit hopeful.
Funny enough as last season that was his biggest strength, his crosses to Rashford against Liverpool and Norwich were delightful. Hopefully he can bring that back into his game.

People need to remember that he was our highest assist maker in the team before Bruno. Another good performance tonight, lovely finish and you can tell he has his confidence back.

Took his goal well and showed good workrate. For a starter on the wing he still lacks on too many fronts though

He deserves to stay in the team on merit. What sort of signal does it send when the established players consistently serve up dross but there are no ramifications? James was our best attacking player today.

Goal aside, I still thought he was rubbish.

Painfully sticks out as the least skilled and technical player for us whenever he plays. Can't fault his effort and attitude though, he's always busy.

Agree tbh. He adds something for us but only because he can actually play right wing. He is a very limited player really.

We cannot play him against City though, we have to have a better option surely.

He did well. I don't normally like him against teams that sit deep, but he was good. He pressed really well and won us the ball back high up the pitch a couple of times, and he took his goal well. It was nice to have some width on both flanks for a change.

Two positive contributions from James in a week, long may it continue.

He hasn't got that much to his game. However, Antonio Valencia 2010-13 shows you can make an impact from that right hand side without being Arjen Robben redux.

We have Rashford cutting in from the left, we don't really need the same thing on the right, especially playing ahead of Wan-Bissaka. We need the guy on the right to make the pitch bigger, put good balls into the box and be a goal threat when necessary. Twice in a week James has shown he can play that part. Lets hope he keeps his chin up and continues to contribute.

I would play 3-5-2 against City, with Rashford & Cavani up front. It worked very well against them last season.
I’d say that’s the only way we can get anything against them, which is pretty depressing given the talk of how much we’ve come on. I can’t remember the last time we went toe to toe with a rival in the league.

Scored with a decent strike. Tried hard as usual. Crosses either cut-out or not quite into the right area, though not many United players looking to get on the end of them. Shame we can't manage to switch the play from time to time, instead of our slow build-up down the left. Overall a fairly good performance.

Clearly he still needs to do a huge amount of work on his play against teams that sit deep. I don't get the sense that he knows what to do or that he has much understanding with his team-mates in that situation.

I just can’t help but love the lad, I desperately want him to do well, last two games really made me smile for him

James can actually put in a decent cross, but he needs to work on the timing of them. Often let’s them go way too early, but part of that can be blamed on the poor movement of Martial and Rashford in the box.

Will be interesting to see how he does with Cavani up front, someone who will make those runs early enough and into the areas he usually plays the ball.

At the moment, his crosses look worse than they are because they are aimless, the actually cross isn’t too bad.

We don’t keep the ball well so going toe to toe with big teams knowing we have a terrible defence probably isn’t the best idea. If we had more technical ability in the centre of the park & didn’t have such a dodgy centre half pairing we’d probably be less pragmatic in the big games. Maguire & Lindelof limit us so much.

Spot on, lacks quite a bit for a big club going for cups.

But his finishing is very impressive, must say.

I agree with all of that. I just kinda wish we would have rectified the issues you point to by now.

Cost us less than what we pay De Gea every year. There can't be no doubt now that relative to his fee that he turned out a good signing.

He's just a very straightforward player, there's not much guile or subtly to his play and he misses some opportunities that players with more vision might see but he works his arse off, has great pace which is always useful for counter attacking teams like ourselves and he's not afraid to shoot. You could see him being very useful in a more drilled system where he's not expected to rely on his own creativity or decision making but instead be given a specific role/job with clear instructions in 90% of situations, maybe that's why Leeds were interested.

Young player in bright start, poor form, bereavement adjustment and heightened social media abuse shocker.

A well rounded performance and progressing well. Has to opt-for more first-time crosses in certain scenarios. Pleased for the lad. Could be a vital squad player if he stays.
Think he can help in big matches where we need a more defensive minded winger with a counter threat.

I was pleased with him. He took his goal very well, but importantly, he was working hard throughout that game. It's starting to go better for him now.
