Said in the post match interview that he lost his way a little and is working hard with the coaches to get back in the game.

Glad he has had a couple of good games and goals. Hope he plays and does well on Thursday. He should not start versus Chelski though.

Like who? None of the front lads have made an indisputable case to start, apart from Rashford. And even he is absolutely maddening.
I take your point. Greenwood I suppose, or like another said maybe play 3-5-2. Against good teams James is a bench option at best.

Disagree.
I think Chelsea suits him to a T.
Space in behind with defensive cover is what he can offer with Tuchel pushing down their left.
Would be good to bring on after 70 mins too.

Interesting to see if he'll cut it here. At United you have to be at the top level even from a young age.
I don't know what is your definition of top level but James is a good squad option for us. He also got more goals than Greenwood this season.

Did well in key big games in the past esp. against City.

If Greenwood starts, excellent Bench option.
Depends how much Ole wants to Gamble.
Is Cavani going to be fit? If not, then opt to start James with Greenwood and Rashford.
If Cavani is fit, it's between Greenwood and James. Don't mind either.

Today was not the right game for him, but he did well. I would have him running at that Chelsea defence.

Greenwood isn’t scoring but his performances have been okay of late. We shall see how we line up against City but, tbh, I don’t think it’ll matter in any case!

You're looking at Pens if he or Greenwood run at that Chelsea backline on transition and counter.
We have to quickly pick out the switch from left to right, We were very slow in Tempo tonight forcing everything through the compact left-centre.

Don't think we move about enough. I think the wide men should be capable of moving from wing to wing. We are effective when we move the ball quicker. I do not understand when we want to slow it down.

Felt like the wrong game for him and for the first hour he did a really good job perfecting Valencias 'run as fast as you can to the byline then do a backpass', but the difference between him and Martial is that he his actually trying to get out of his rotten form as the last two games has shown. Right before his goal he misplaced a pass to Bruno horribly but worked his socks of to win the ball back (only for him to follow up with a bad pass to Rashford). That attitude paid dividends in the end.

Happy for him. He's a likeable character and could have been a real fairytale story for us but unfortunately he was relied upon to heavily the first year so much that his confidence has been shot.

Grew into the game tonight and shaded man of the match on a night when the team was below par in general. His speed keeps defenders honest and his passing was much better tonight than some of his previous games.

I thought he was relatively poor today but kept working and got a goal. He shouldn’t be starting league matches for us very often but Chelsea away would actually be one he might do a decent job. Absolutely vital we sort out the right wing position over the Summer though.

Aye. Ponderous Peter Ebdon style far too many times. And before you know it the Opp is back in their shape.

His use of the ball is still poor but he's contributing now.

Can't help but think we might see a fist fight with Bruno one day if he doesn't improve his short passing.

Seems to me James has become comfortable with the footballer he is and is no longer trying to become he was hyped up to but just can’t be.

I’m pleased to have him on the squad.

Blistering pace and great determination as always. He seems to have good awareness in the box as well. He's also gotten better at not squandering possession.

Think he did a lot of good things today, not only the goal. He had periods of the match where he showed good movements in and out of the box and also speedy accelerations. But then there are long periods where he didn’t really offer anything at all (wasn’t alone). Anyways, think he had a good game and gave him 7/10.

I kind of like him on the right, he's been combining well with Wan Bissaka (nothing special, but gets the basics right and doesn't lose the ball). Some good driving runs too.

It's useful to have at least one of the front 4 working hard defensively.

Players like James might not be the most talented but with the work rate you're willing to cut them waaaay more slack. I like him and think he'll have a role to play here. Still young as well.

Under a tree.
You can definitely see he's beginning to read the game better with his positioning and the runs made over the last two games, better quality in CM with forward passes and would have had numerous opportunities to get behind the defence

Taken a step forward over the last few weeks, Ole is bringing him on well after a difficult spell of form.

Carried the ball forward, driving through the middle very well today, would be a very tidy facet to his game if he can develop that. Teams expect him to run the wing.

Reminded me slightly of a young Giggsy the way he drove through players with pace tonight. Obviously not a direct comparison:angel:

I actually think especially he should play against Chelsea. This Chelsea team are playing 343 with the wingbacks a big part of their game plan.

tbf. I think his best position is still on the LW. He is improving on the RW, adding more to his amour but he is being tasked and asked to do a role that really isnt his natural position.

hope he continues to find it. We need him and other rotation players to step up. We will never win anything with just a good starting 11. We need him, donny and others to be at their best. It’s always a long season and everyone needs to contribute. Good goal today, always happy to see how passionate he is about scoring

I think he’s at his best on the right, and always has been for us.
I don't like his delivery from the right it is a bit one dimensional due to him being a lefty, I think he can be more versatile on the left in terms of options for delivery (though Martial is a bit of a false target).

Actually really proud of this little burst of performances he's put together and he's definitely got the confidence flowing.

Would love to hear how you arrived at that conclusion given James never uses his left foot.

I swear the Caf is awful at recognizing players' strong foot even though it's so noticeable, half the forum didn't know Fred was left footed until a few months ago

I like him.
Leaving aside goals, where others would normally be better, he offers more than the rest of our forwards in other parts of the game. Has a good pressing game, gives better cover to the full backs than most, gives more width than many of the others. He looks in decent form and has earned a few starts imo. Chelsea is probably a perfect game for him.
