I'm surprised to see it going wrong so quickly.

A mourinho meltdown is always inevitable, but it would usually come in season three. This year is supposed to be the season two peak, where he generally wins a trophy or two and gets the media all exited about him again.

What's happened!
He’s never taken over such a shit squad and been given nothing to spend, that’s what.
His head has gone already due to it.

No different to the shit Poch served up at the end with this awful squad, just that Poch would never let it get nasty, Mourinho though..... watch this space.

Well you could argue that the year the won it, most of the big teams in Europe were in transition. So in some ways it was like Leicester winning the league when all the big teams had horseshite managers - Van Gaal at Utd, Pellegrini at City, Brendan Rodgers started the season at Liverpool and had had a horror summer transfer window, Jose in his 2nd stint at Chelsea and losing the dressing room in one of the first games of the season for childishly and disgracefully verbally abusing a top female doctor in front of the whole stadium.

Porto's road to the Champions League title in 2004 was Lyon in the quarters, Deportivo in the semi's and Monaco in the final - about as handy a run that a team could ever dream of. And who could ever forget the cock-up of all cock-ups from the inexperienced Tim Howard in the last minute of the game against Porto, in the first round knock out stage, to giftwrap a victory for Jose? Would Schmeichel or Van de Saar have made such an error? No chance.

I don't think Jose's Porto team were any better than the Monaco team of Mbappe of 2016 who got to the final, or the Ajax team of 2018 with De Jong and De Ligt that got to the CL Semi's, but when you study the teams they faced and the luck along the way, one could argue that Porto's luck that year was on a par with Leicester in 2015/2016. It was a brilliant achievement from Jose, but he's been overrated ever since, in the same way Van Gaal's ability as a manager were greatly overrated from winning the CL with an Ajaz team boasting the greatest collection of wonder kids the game has probably ever seen. Ranieiri's talent as a manager also being vastly overrated for a short period of time after Leicester win.
They had fortune on their side for sure but no team like that wins a major trophy without it. You were making out they were star studded. They weren’t.

You could argue all that and it was a fluke but then he went and won it again. With a different team. One of only 5 managers to do that. He also managed the only team to stop that great Barca team winning the league. He was clearly a good manager and you’re stretching to say otherwise.

Would be funny if he actually got fired before the cup final, a trophy is more important than anything for him.

Spurs going for Mou was a wierd one. All they needed to do was have faith in a man that had carried them for many seasons. I think football has left Mou behind. Happy to be wrong though.

I know there’s some noise that they’ll wait until the end of the season, possibly seeing if they win the league cup, but I’m not sure he’ll make that final if results don’t improve quickly. Burnley, Fulham and Palace are their next 3 league games, though, so you’d think they’ll pick up some wins there. The flip side to those fixtures, of course, is if they only get 3/4 points from them, he could realistically be sacked.

FYP. He also spent those 10 months claiming he was going to leave, so no - he had no credit left.

No idea why people keep rolling out the rhetoric that neither have spent anything, either - last two seasons are easily near £200m net I think

I really can't imagine that this is what happened.
The team have gone from low block counter football with ~30% possession and 4 shots per game, to a ~70% possession and 15+ shots per game since people started moaning about it, so there's two alternatives: either the squad really weren't listening to or applying tactics after all, or he changed it up in response.

I can't see him in the Bundesliga either. Bayern surely will never touch him, and i can't imagine any other club being able or willing to afford him.

Surely he can't go from Spurs to Arsenal though? Even if Wenger's way out was not on the best terms, they surely couldn't bring in his eternal arch nemesis?
Oh please God, I would love this

I think Jose is brilliant at some things, while being hugely overrated with other aspects of management. Play active, diving, time wasting

Conspiracy theory: Jose is a double-agent-coach who is hired by Abramovich to go to rival clubs and set them back years, while Chelsea is rebuilding.

Can only imagine what must be going through Spurs fan's heads after sacking Poccetino to sign Mourinho.

To be fair, most of them accepted the fact that he was done, and had they not sacked him, a mass exodus would've followed.

Still they could had appointed another manager, anyone who has followed football in the last years knows Mourinho is done.

Will cost spurs £30m to get rid apparently, not much less than champions league money. He'll get the season at least I reckon.

It wasn't the greatest example but I compared the Porto teams of the 2000's and before to Dortmund of today, based on being the best of the smaller European teams outside the usual giants.

Jose came to prominence against Martin O'Neil in the UEFA Cup final of 2003. To this day O'Neil hasn't forgiven Jose for his teams play-acting, diving, ref influencing, time wasting in the final that ended 4-3 to Porto. Had O'Neil won that game then he could well have ended up as the Chelsea manager with a level of spending on players never seen before in the game, and with no FFP back then. You can be sure he would have won a couple of league titles with those resources back then.

Then we have Porto banned from the CL for a year in 2008 for bribing refs. So Jose arrived in England coming from a club with one of the worst records for cheating on and off the pitch in the game.

We all loved his arrogance and swagger at the start. He did great things. But he chose his clubs well, and like Zidane he was in the right place at the right time on a few occasions. But I lost all respect for him when he was at Utd due to cowardly tactics, cowardly behavior throwing everyone under a bus instead of owning up to blame any time he made a bad decision, ignoring youth, and then doing everything to get himself sacked in the end because 400 million wasn't enough for a manager of such high stature supposedly. And I believe he's been found out a little since he's taken jobs with clubs that don't always spend their way out of trouble.

post-Chelsea. I think it was after Brighton that the noises really started, as we got played off the pitch by then. Tuchel isn't hugely different to Mourinho in the 'who cares how we play if we win' stakes, so after they looked positively attacking against us, it was a bit terminal for that style of play.

Can you believe that we won 6-1 against United only a few months back?

Such a strange season - it feels like a different universe of football every other week.

No get out clauses in his Spurs contract supposedly which is insane if true. Cant be long now until he totally bins the league season and puts all his focus on the league cup final much like us and Europa a few years ago.

Alternatively cant be long until he gets the boot the rate they are going.

Mourinho tactics and football philosophy is from a different era. The ultra defensive football only works if all of your players buy into it i.e. Simeone at Atletico.

Maybe international football would now suit him better. His tactics would work in a knockout competition.

Didn't Mourinho spend quite a bit?

Match of the Day just put up Mourinho's 50 games vs Poch's last 50 for spurs.

Poch has more wins (26 vs 23) more goals scored (85 vs 80) , slightly less goals conceded (56 vs 57) and 4 more pts (85 vs 81).

Jose can't last long at this rate.

Start of season your level was actually pretty good. False start v Everton but they've had a good season v top half sides so far and after that you were electric on counter attack. Of course Kane and Son were on insane level for first 3-4 months of the season but you still need team structure to function.

Then freak West Ham result happened and he suddenly changed to protect 1-0 result at all costs and minimal risk so you scrape those late wins v Burnley and West Brom, parked the bus at Stamford Bridge and threw away points v Palace which started the decline.

In last two months the only teams Spurs have beaten domestically are Stoke, Leeds, Brentford, Marine, Sheffield United, Wycombe and West Brom. Leeds were naive but will give Spurs a very tough test at Elland road and rest either getting relegated or lower league in cups.

Infact all season have beaten just three teams in top half and Arsenal were around 12th when they lost to Spurs in early December.

Top half is a transient term though! Newcastle were top of the table at one point, as were Southampton. I'm sure everyone's been top half at some point, bar Sheff Utd! More than half the league have had a go at the top, too.

Football is fickle, though - today West Ham were getting smashed and the comedy show at the back was a gift to them. If Son & Bale had an inch more luck, and Kane had been on form, people would have a different narrative. It's likely to be that keeping Jose in a job, but it's also that which will probably make him lose the plot.

I think football has changed too much but Mourinho stayed behind. It is clear that his methods have expired and his aura fades with every new job he takes.
His is trying to get online with IOS 5.0
He was a friend of SAF and admired him so much maybe he should have learned from the Boss how to update.

I agree. Also his results have taken a downturn since he lost Rui Faria as his assistant. Fergie was smart enough to adapt and take on new ideas and bring people with new ideas to them club. Mourinho is falling into the same trap, LVG, Wenger etc all did. Adapt or fade away.

Like on here, there are still a sizeable number of people on there who think they should keep Mourinho and instead replace the players: https://thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/keep-the-manager-change-the-players.39854/

Ignoring that Moyes is doing better with a worse set of players, and when we sacked Mourinho, the players he constantly slagged off/denigrated ended up being our better ones under Ole.
