What does Bruno's goal gesture mean?
It's for his little daughter :)

”In Portugal, when I was playing, and I started my second season in Sporting, my daughter was growing up, you know,"

Result good but everything else pretty poor. Defensive issues continue to mount. Still relying on individual moments to score goals. We’ve got to improve next weekend or we’ll get beat. Hoping we can get a few players back from injury.

Rashford MOTM. James, Shaw and Matic also decent tonight.

We have one, and are you on crack? A 17 year old came on for the final 4 minutes and you want to have a go at him?
Honestly anyone will find fault with anything

Thank you. I've been wondering for a long time and figure he had a baby or something. :)

I was happy to see Dan James start the game because I think he's worked hard to bring his game back up, and he's clearly working harder than some of his team mates. Martial is breaking my heart, just doesn't seem to care.

Maguire was lucky not to gice a penalty away. Rashford needs to improve his diving... : )

Dan James 6 in 9 but the performances are gets better.
I don’t think it’s a don’t care attitude more a real crisis of confidence.
You want to see someone who doesn’t care, look at Joelinton the guy was desperate to come off, bullshitting the club

First half was bloody awful. Very frustrating.

I’d have sold Martial for a freakin icecream at half time. When he’s good, he’s good. But when he’s shit, as he has largely been this season, he doesn’t even do the effort to make up for it. So infuriatingly frustrating.
In such a sentiment, kudos to James. Not usually the technical genious, but you can’t fault his effort.
Matic was decent after 2-1. Fred had an off night. Lindelöf gives opposition too much space. Get in their freakin face damnit!

Job done. Didnt think Newcastle could keep it going for much longer in the second half. Wish we would stop conceding stupid goals.

Martial needs to cop the feck on. Glad too see James having a good game and scoring again, you can tell it always means loads to him.

Great to see Shoretire making his debut, I wonder is his number 74 the highest a player has had for us in the league?

I am always glad when a players scores, but with James I always feel delighted for him. Think it is because he is so little.

People moaning about James and.. Shola too?!

FFS
Because James was no threat at all (cue the but he scored comments) until a lucky deflection left him 8 yards one on one
He’s a smaller weaker less productive Valencia, runs down blind dead ends and can’t cross past the first man

Please get me right: I am very happy he came on, and in general supportive of playing youth. At the same time, we need to keep our feet on the ground: contrary to Diallo debut midweek, Shola didn’t impress much (although I do agree 4 minutes is not a lot of time).

P.S. where is Shoretire thread? One in youth section doesn’t count as he is now officially a First team player
But let's be fair to both - totally different situations against totally different teams. We'd already put the two-game series away with RS when Diallo came on. Newcastle is fighting league relegation, where goal difference may be precious, so Shoretire was under the gun as soon as he came on. Welcome to the PL!

I only watched the game from approx the 54th minute. Not much to complain about. From that point it was a good performance.

So if the last part of the game wasn’t representative, I recommend people to bring with them the positive from the game. It was a positive experience for me, and I’m happy :D

He shouldn’t be playing RW, but as for the last forever years we don’t have a natural right winger, his crossing was hit and miss, but if you have a striker (Martial) who refuses to make runs in the box, even the best cross won’t be put in the net.

If James had a bad game, Martial must have a negative rating today.

Please don’t tell lies. It makes sensible discussions on here impossible.
Only a lie if you lack the ability to discern hyperbole.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me you and others latch onto the literal interpretation because you are too lazy to defend the general point.

Poor Poor Performance but got 3 points out of it!
Martial how many more games before we drop him to the bench for the rest of the season?

Happy with the win, but so frustrated at this playing out from the back nonsense regardless of the opposition. We simply do not have enough ability on the ball at the back, and when the opposition aggressively press we always get into trouble and give the ball away midway into our half.

Kicking it long at least gives the players an opportunity to get back into the right shape before the ball comes back to us.

:confused:The Caf is such a sad place. So much negativity. Even when we win easily and have 70% possession, most people are posting negative crap.

so telling that the post match comments are 6 pages in a win and 19 in a loss...

Superb second half performance. Matic immaculate MOTM. Excellent performances from Rashford, Bruno (surprise, surprise!), Shaw, and James.

Did what we needed to do. Very happy. Game management was exceptional after a Thursday away trip in the EL.
Blimey were we watching the same game or am i missing the sarcasm

No, not sarcasm. I guess I just operate with a greater deal of realism when assessing a performance that came on the back of an away trip in the EL on a thursday night. Potential banana skin for us today, especially with tired legs, and so much rotation. But aside from a ten minute spell, we were really comfortable. Newcastle's goal came from a set piece but they barely threatened other than that. We had 72% possession and from the 55th minute onwards, absolutely dominated.

Unlike the majority on here, I don't expect us to play like Brasil '70 every week.

The day we have a squad of the preposterous depth of Man City, is the day I will expect world class performances, no matter the personnel. But then again, we'd have to let Ole spend 481M on defenders alone, to even complete a third of those expectations.

I wasn’t mentioning martial but I’d agree negative rating would be appropriate

i don’t think James is the right player for us,his crossing wasn’t just hit and miss it was awful
The head down run to the corner is so predictable and at best gets us a corner
Or he runs in a straight line at our CMs so we lose our shape
With him doing this and martial also wandering out of position it’s no wonder Bruno had no effect today

Worst performance of the season but somehow we won the game.
I think we have played significantly worse, this season. Re Tottenham, however we fought thru it. James has had a nice run, which gives us some options down the right side. We still struggle nightly when pressed.

Good result. Thought we’d lose the way Newcastle were all over us early on.
1) Don’t get the two defensive CM vs lower end teams, hopefully when DVB comes back he’ll get more chances with Pogba out.
2) Give Amad minutes, start with 20 minutes when we’re leading, if he does well then bring him on when we’re needing a goal.. that’s the United way.

Think it’s because most of us are used to seeing intelligent players that work hard for the club
So when martial is walking around and maguire is setting up the opposition it gets frustrating to watch
Was more relief than joy when we scored for me

Martial should never start a game again.

Great to see Shola.

Marcus took his goal well and shows why comparisons to Tony are ludicrous.

Bruno quiet but G+A.

Dan James good goal.

Fred cannot pass or shoot.

Shaw excellent again.

Maguire and Lindelof make football look hard.
Please see his pass Thursday night. He has some passing issues at times, but why is everyone so over the top?

Bit confused. Commentators were calling shoretire exactly at its spelt shore-tire but then randomly today his name is pronounced sure-ra-teah

Where did that come from?

Seriously, just be happy we won. In fact you should be happier when we win like that, cause that's been missing in recent years. Regards to the direction we're going, I'm not sure what you're on about here? We have clearly improved and you really can't say otherwise.
We have improved points and consistency wise I will give you that, however our performances in the supposed big six games have been terrible. One of the main reasons for that is because we lack CB leadership, mobile DM good on the ball and a proper RW too. The top teams just know how to shut down Bruno like we used to see with Pogba in these games.
