PSG perhaps? He's better than Navas for sure.
Not sure about that anymore. Navas isn't exactly bad, they also have Rico and Areola on the books who's having a good season at Fulham.

Seems like a position they happy to be decent at and save wages for more important positions / players (i.e. Neymar, Mbappe, maybe Messi).

If they were really intent on upgrading the position they would just go out and buy a top-class, in-form goalkeeper in his prime as well. They don't need to settle for cast offs.

A. Why would it be a high fee? and B. PSG, Juve, RM for a start.
I mean pride probably says that United wouldn't be prepared to let him leave for free, even if they should to get him off the wage bill.

So Real as an example are going to replace Courtois with a goalkeeper who's older, more expensive and in much worse form over a sustained period? OK.

Pride? Few keepers go for big fees for a start and we'd want rid.

I'd replace Courtois for sure.

This is pretty damning. We're going nowhere with this coward in goal.

It doesn’t tell us much. It does tell us that those talking about him coming for cross after cross are talking nonsense.
Well, you might reasonably argue that no keeper comes out collecting cross after cross all game. The best keeper in the league at crosses is only averaging slightly more than 1 per match. On the other hand, not many keepers make save after save either. Check out De Gea's save stats as an example.

Saves madeNo of occurrences
5 saves2 times
4 saves3 times
3 saves2 times
2 saves7 times
1 save5 times
0 shots4 times

The reality is that most keepers are acutally not that busy during most games. Most of the time De Gea's making 2 or fewer saves per game. That doesn't mean we don't need a good shot stopper though. When you need a keeper to do the business, he has to perform. The margins are that fine in football.

Same goes for taking crosses. Some fans might believe that Henderson would be taking 3 catches a game, which is obviously not going to happen, same way De Gea isn't stopping half a dozen shots every game. But a good catcher is still important. They'll come out and claim the ball when it matters. It might only be critical once every other game, and that might only prevent a few goals per season, but if your target is to concede less than goal a game, those goals really matter.

Reality is, the stats show Henderson is in that upper group when it comes to cross taking. I don't think there's any sensible argument that he wouldn't be an upgrade on De Gea on that particular front.

The first is a much easier ball to catch. The trajectory of the first is still moving towards the keeper.

While DDG has been a great player for us over several years I think it's time to get rid at end of season.
Henderson keeps telling us how good he is and by now Ole must have a true idea of his capabilities from working with him and seeing him in games.
He's young, hungry and has premier league experience, yeah make him the number 1!

De Gea or someone third. And Henderson is free to leave with that attitude.
I agree. feck him and his stinking attitude. Who does he think he is, being unhappy with sitting on the bench watching de Gea perform poorly week after week. He should be grateful that he’s allowed to warm the iconic Old Trafford bench, especially with his extra hot “best performing PL goalkeeper 19/20” arse.

If someone thinks they should be playing ahead of Martial, they can feck off too!

Wee bit of an agenda video (though, I entirely agree).
Further evidence in a response to the tweet. Only 2 highballs claimed this season:

Welp.

It seems we'll have a very difficult choice to take this summer regarding the GK spot.

Henderson 1000 times better

But I think he will ask to leave (permanent or on loan)

Both those clubs can have him if they want, straight swap for Kane/Haaland thank you very much

There’s no doubt De Gea has to go but I think he will be hard to shift. The only question is whether Henderson is the man to be our #1.

He needs to play all of our games for the rest of the season. If he steps up, go with it. If he doesn’t, then we have to invest in the summer. Unfortunately I don’t think Ole is going to drop De Gea for the rest of the season to give Henderson the chance to prove himself one way or the other.

The club and Ole would be stupid to not try Deano as our number 1.

Our biggest issue is literally defending crosses and corners. Henderson will help with that more than De Gea.

Ferguson wasn't afraid to drop a keeper and neither should Ole.

Look at the below comparison for Last Season. It shows Henderson has much better control of his box. And if anything it looks like he is coming for high balls even more this year.

The issue is De Gea will be to hard to shift, isn’t he like the highest payed GK in the world? He knows he is past his prime so I’m sure he won’t mind sitting on the bench collecting money, because him leaving probably means taking a 50% pay cut.

But Dean Henderson isn’t good enough to be first choice GK, he clearly isn’t happy being a backup so I’d shift him off and just sign a first choice GK which probably won’t happen because we have so many other positions in dire need of attention.

I assume we'd get a bigger fee for Henderson?

If so it's yet more reason to give him more gametime this season. If we decide that actually neither De Gea nor Henderson are up to the job and it's much of a muchness between the two then we could cash in on the more valuable asset and use that to fund recruitment.

Whether Henderson is made #1 or is sold, what we really want is for management to have seen enough of him to make a definitive call one way or another. Still being uncertain as to what to do with him come summertime would be the killer.

De Gea is past it & needs moving on but I’m not convinced Henderson is good enough. He’s obviously too good to be a bench player & I think he’s definitely a top 6-8 keeper, but he a title winning keeper? I’m unconvinced.

After DDG the last few seasons, it only makes sense to give Hendo a proper go.

DDG isn't going to suddenly become amazing again.

I don't understand posts saying we have a difficult decision. De Gea's obviously on borrowed time, so what exactly are we losing by giving Henderson a run of games to assess whether or not he's the answer? If he's not, then we try to sell both in the summer and bring in a replacement, simple.

Whatever happens this summer, it absolutely won't be that. One of them will be our #1 next season, whether they're really up to the job or not.

But yeah, there shouldn't be a difficult decision in regard to this season. Whatever we ultimately end up doing, the bottom line is we need to see more of Henderson for now.

I think we need to give Henderson the job for the remainder of this season to work out whether he can be trusted for next season, or we need to buy a new keeper.

Ole needs to have the balls to do it because we need to see what Hendo is like week in, week out under big pressure and not just sporadic games here and there.
Unless Henderson makes a fool of himself against Real Sociedad, I think that could very well happen - if not immediately, at least some time pretty soon, i.e. as soon as De Gea makes the smallest mistake.

Well we know De Gea isn't which is why I'm an advocate of playing Deano. Can't be much worse and we'll atleast we'll find out if we need a new keeper.

This is Manchester United, standards should be extremely high, they haven’t been for many years. We handed out the manager role basically to a fan winning a raffle, let’s not continue doing so with the playing staff as well. Henderson has shown absolutely nothing to warrant the spot for himself, he doesn’t have the x-factor, the special something that screams winner. He is a fairly decent shotstopper in the Premier League, but nothing else catches the eye, there are a lot of those goalkeepers in the history of the PL. Probably great for a team like West Ham or Brighton, but not for a team wanting to win the Champions League.

So that’s my long answer for; if not de Gea, then certainly not Henderson. I still hold onto DDG’s true ability and hope he will once again discover his former selv. If he doesn’t do that next season, I’m obviously willing to talk. The so-called errors haven’t been plentiful this season, but I remember a lot of good, match-winning saves. He’s been more than okay this season in my opinion, least of our problems, and most importantly, he’s been better than last year.

Dortmund’s keeper is terrible so there could some legs in that as part of the Sancho/Harland deal. Dean might even settle for a loan there. It would be high enough profile to put him in the frame for England.

He's not. He's one of the worst.

There some stat sheet flying around the caf showing that he's like no 18-19 or something of the PL keepers. He's crap even at shot stopping.
Yeah, I think I’ve seen that but some of the chances we give teams it’s no wonder he’s a nervous wreck.

He needs confidence. That’s for sure, but we’ve seen him go through phases before.

Hendo deserves a run. Simple as. Ole can’t keep hoping players like Martial and de Gea find form - you need to pull them out and give others a chance. Otherwise you risk losing not only Hendo, but other players waiting for their chance.

It is also the only way to see who is good enough. Promising Hendo number 1 without giving amble opportunity would also be a silly move.

Time for Ole to grow a pair and drop a few.

I don't know if Henderson is the answer but De Gea has been on the decline for a couple of years now. We won't win the league with him in goal.

If Henderson isn’t given a sustained run in the first team soon, he is as good as gone. Could Ole start him next season as our number 1 based on a good season at Sheffield Utd and a handful of cup games for us? Get him in, give him a run and let him prove himself to be worthy of number 1 for next season. DDG is like a cat with 18 lives now.

It's clear that none of them will want to be number 2 coming next season. We have to choose one now and I find it a very difficult choich.

If we sold Henderson in summer and kept De Gea and he kept on declining, we might find ourselves having to splash millions to buy a new GK when we already had one ready.

But meanwhile if we sold De Gea and Henderson ended up ultimately not ready yet for a main starter role, we might be in some very rough incoming years till he becomes ready and this may or may not happen.

Media nonsense. There is no way either of those teams can "lead" anything on a player who has 4+ years on his deal.

I would totally use Henderson in some kind of deal to get Haaland if its even an option, however remote.

I think we would have to get bollocked again for ole to drop de gea altogether. He's like Lindelof and Martial a ole favourite. That's the only thing that I can think of why he plays them time and again when they play shit. I fear it will be Henderson that will be sold if ole still the manager next season

Has to be Henderson for me, would actually make him number 1 just now, give him till the end of the the 21/22 season to prove he is good enough, if not then he would need to go as well, this now the 3rd year De Gea has been on the decline, add in that horrific contract we gave him makes it even worse, can only guess at best we get him out on loan to a club and still be paying a large portion of his wages or we end up doing a Sanchez and give him some kind of deal to leave on a free

Lindelof hasn't got a proper competitor (Bailly can't play two games without getting injured), and Martial has only started two of the last six PL and Europe games.

Big difference with De Gea who has a good competitor but has so far remained first choice no matter what.

I don't think De Gea has been as bad this season as many like to portray, however he isn't what he was and I think the squad would benefit from a change. For me it's important players don't feel like they are a starter regardless of performance level, and a big part of management is knowing when to move players on.

I worry that Ole is a bit cowardly in this regard and stays with the same players out of loyalty.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of DeGea and investing that money to strengthen the squad elsewhere, at the moment there's not much difference between the two when it comes to what they bring to the table.
