I feel the caf could do with a proper Raiola myth-busting seminar tbh. You would think football is his personal chessboard.

Nah, I remember reading it. I think it was his dad talking with tv2.
He basically said OGS desire to sign Erling was greater then the clubs and with uncertaincy regarding OGS future at Utd the smart move were Dortmund.
He was just being nice and politically correct to Ole, actions speak louder than words

Let’s see what excuses are coming when Haaland ditches Ole again

Imagine being the biggest legend in Norway and being rejected by a player you gave a debut to

Don’t think Haaland nor his dad are big fans of Ole otherwise he would have been here already
They are really tight. Not only in the footballing world.

So do you genuinely think he would choose Utd over the others because of Ole, personally I think we need to finish minimum third this season and certainly not miles behind City & Leicester/Chelsea if we want to have a chance

Yeah, both Sr and Jr have great respect for Ole. I'm gonna repost a Google translated article from the Norwegian newspaper VG from 2007:

DAD HÅLAND CHOSEN SOLSKJÆR TO TAKE CARE OF HIS SON'S SUPERTALENT

Alf-Inge Håland was fully determined that Ole Gunnar Solskjær would take care of his son's huge talent when several top clubs were interested a year ago.

I was in dialogue with Ole Gunnar Solskjær, and traveled with Erling to Molde. But he had to make the final choice himself, says Alf-Inge Håland.
If the son follows in his father's footsteps and ends up in the Premier League, he is not very optimistic.

The eye of the needle into that league has become very narrow. But it is a dream that many people have, says Alf-Inge Håland.
On the same question about the 17-year-old's possible Premier League future, Solskjær is far more positive.

Yes. Yes. Yes. He can do that. If we manage to keep him injury-free and he can develop in peace and quiet, then I am sure he can play there, says the Molde coach, who makes no secret of the fact that young talents often disappear very quickly abroad these days :

The football world today has changed. Norwegian boys who play at this level are always interesting. If there are now any big clubs, we can not rule anything out.

Solskjær pulls on the smiley face and jokingly says:

If it is, for example, Manchester City or Leeds United, then I say no. If it's Manchester United, then I say yes.
Afraid of predation Alf-Inge Håland points out to VG that he has seen far too much predation on young Norwegian football talents. It was assurances from Solskjær and the system around him that brought his son to Molde.

It becomes very fast too great a burden on young players. Junior matches, B-team matches and A-matches. In addition to training and education. Erling has an older brother who had his football career ruined due to strain injuries. And the focus is on what must not happen to Erling, says Alf-Inge Håland.
Molde's hottest 17-year-old admits that his father's advice was important when the club choice fell on MFK.

It was dad who helped choose Molde. He has faith and thinks it is going well, says the tight-lipped striker to VG.

How important is Solskjær for your development?

He is absolutely important in every way. He has played in the Premier League and won the Champions League. You will learn from the best, and I learn every day.

What are you learning?

How to be a striker.

What is the most important thing he has taught you?

Score goals, says Erling Braut Håland.

First of all; We are a huge club. The most famous club in the world. We have a young and exciting team as well. We can for sure compete for the best players in the world. We need CL, that I do agree with you on.

Ole has a close relationship with both Erling and Alf-Inge.

I am pretty sure we are working on the deal right now.

I’d like to be believe you but facts are we were in for Haaland while Ole was in charge and he rejected us

Everything else is speculation
They did that for sporting reasons.

Will that relationship really mean anything though

Of course it will mean something. How much bearing it will have on the decision however, is anyone’s guess. It certainly doesn’t hurt though, I should think.

It’s strange seeing poters on a United forum write about this case as if we’re Tottenham or something.

I'd say that's the only reason we have an actual chance to sign him.
Our manager is his countryman, someone he looks up to and worked with him when he was a kid.
If not for that lucky coincidence, what reason would he have to sign for us? Yes we're still a huge and renowned club, but it's been near a decade without a decent project and a clear direction to go. There are more teams than never who can tie or beat our transfer fee/salary offers.
Still, I expect him to sign for us if we meet his demands. If that happens, it's only due to OGS.

Wouldn't signing Haaland basically mean kicking greenwood out the door? I can't seem him being contempt with beeing on the bench forever. I see him more as a forward/striker than a winger in the long run

Well Haaland is the much better player, so why would that matter even if it did, which it won't

I think we need to show we can win trophies as well. So far 3 in 8 seasons isn't good enough. Would he pick Utd over City or Liverpool, never mind Madrid and Barca even though three of those teams are having a shit season. I'm not so sure unless he's in it solely for the money. Then we have a chance.

He is the next player we simply must get. I'd even get rid of Martial for him, offer Dortmund a swap deal + cash in exchange for Haaland to reduce the transfer fee.

If its too early to say they arent a waste of money then its faaar too early to say they're attractive because they could be Citys rivals in the near future.
At least you could say Utd are on the right track. You see improvement. You see no other side has lost less games than us in a year, 1 defeat in 19, undefeated away from home for God knows how long, going fom 6th to (as we stand) second, top scorers in the league, beat Leicester and its 5 semi finals in 12 months, a manager he knows, respects, is close with and stable. Thats without a Haaland in the side. Plus Utd are leagues above Chelsea in stats as a club.
With Chelsea, are they better than 2 season ago? Are they better than last year? Manager on a 18 month contract, laying in 5th and look to be in a mad battle for fourth, in a club that has shown it might not be the best environment for a player from Germany to play for.
Story goes He went to Dortmund because he wanted to know the entire club wanted him there, not just Solskjaer. How would he feel with upheavel every 18 months? A different manager coming in every other season etc.
Its hard to point to a 5 year span when so much changes in 5 years.
Even now Havertz and Timo joined because others had to pull out in a covid market.
You make some good points here and i take them on board but for the record i never said we'd be cities rivals in the near future. Just that i believe Chelsea and Utd are comparable in attractiveness right now.

Wow you must really want him considering you're willing to go to such radical lengths.

Don't think Dortmund would want Martial instead of more money. Don't think Martial would want to move to Dortmund

People dont want to admit it but Greenwood has been given alot of chances to play as an out and out striker either at the tip of our attack or in a strikers partnership with Rashford.

Greenwood hasn't done well as a striker in all those games and has been much better as a RW even in his general play.

Well none of those bar City can afford him this summer without a clause and even then City are reportedly after Messi and Lukaku so...?

Greenwood said in an interview with Rio that he prefers to play on the right wing or as a CF but thinks he needs to bulk up before he is ready to be the CF. I think Greenwood should be the RW for the future especially if we get Haaland. Would rather Haaland than Sancho, I think Rashford Haaland Greenwood would be better than Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho.

I can see that Greenwood needs bulking up however as much as I see that he can get a benefit of that, it can make him have some negative consequences as I have seen from others players that tried to up their central ability.

If he strengthens up then in my opinion he loses some of the pace he played winger with and from what I remember- he really had to work on that to get to how he is today.

Maybe he just needs to have that breakthrough as a couple goals from CF to get his confidence up

I do like that Solskjaer is doing his best to suggest he and Haaland could be reunited at some point in the next couple of seasons. However, it does feel a bit like a supermodels ex-boyfriend from high school talking about great their time was together. It may have been but she's not going to date you again, not with Enrique Iglesias waiting in the wings.

If City want him, surely they'll get him. Will Mino and Haaland fancy their chances of leaving there to go to another big club? City just don't seem to sell their best players, and if Haaland wants to play all around Europe, maybe that's not the move for him.
Im not so sure thats the reason behind the clause tbh. Apart from Spanish clubs, i cant see any other top club buying him, and inserting a clause where he can sod off after 2-3 years. Which is why i think they asked Dortmund to insert it, because Haaland knows where he wants his next move to be, and the clause allows greater freedom to possibly make the move, should the club come in for him

Chelsea don't have a bottomless pit of cash, unless somethings changed.
no quite right. There was reports of another 250-300m set aside for this summer, too. No club has a bottomless pit of cash. But reality is, Roman can afford to buy any player on the planet, really. He is that wealthy. So for us to spend another 200-300m isnt beyond probability
