It’s not we played 433 fluid formation that could also be 451 when we defended. We didn’t play 4231. It was usually Hargreaves, Giggs, park who played as third midfielder I can’t see Bruno doing that role. I can see him taking Tevez place on the left. I’m not sure he would be a better fit though.
Is this true?
From memory it was often Carrick and one other in centre midfield throughout the season. In big games, like the Champions League final, Sir Alex would change it up a bit and use a three man midfield. However, I remember us playing most games with a 4-2-3-1.
I'll go even further and say in 2008 neither Rooney or Tevez were
that great. Ronaldo was absolutely
unbelievable and the main reason we were successful. However, by Rooney's standards 2007/08 was a bit of a let down. He got injured a decent amount and, if memory serves, he didn't even score 20 goals that season. Tevez was pretty good but he wasn't close to the player he was at City. There's a reason why Sir Alex saw fit to kidnap Berbatov at Manchester airport that summer. Especially given how Saha fell apart physically that year.
Based on what I've seen since we signed Bruno he could've easily challenged for a place in our team most weeks of 2007-08. Might he have been the one to be sacrificed in the biggest games? Maybe. Depends on form. However, I reckon Bruno could've played off of Rooney with Ronaldo one side of him and Giggs or Nani on the other side.
