I would love to see him alongside Pogba, think it would be class. But that will never happen.
That is a pairing that could work. But we can’t afford to blow the required funds on Rice, except maybe if Pogba leaves, so I guess you’re right.

Him and McTominay would be a well balanced and strong midfield on paper as a double pivot. Would need a lot of creativity elsewhere though.
And that's why it wouldn't be balanced.

Think he's excellent but think we should be going for someone more in the mould of Carrick.

Besides, we've got way higher priorities than CM/DM right now.
Personally think the only thing that is higher priority is a CB leader and don't forget Matic is the only DM in our whole squad, certainly wouldn't count either Fred/McTominay as they are box to box energy players

£40m + Lingard. We'll even throw in a special buy one get one free offer with Pereira. And Garner on a free of charge season loan.

If we had a budget of 200m after the sale of Pogba, I’d have a look at Rice. But we need a CB and RW (unless Diallo lights the world on fire), and if there were any way to pry Haaland loose, spend the 100m on him first.

I do think Rice is very good, especially at 22 which is quite a young age for that type of midfielder.

I'd want him taking Fred/McTominay's place alongside a more creative midfielder though rather than playing alongside them. He'd be a Matic replacement when we'll probably need a Pogba replacement.

We need to replace both if Pogba leaves

Yep. I don't we're going to sign two mids in one window though. Which means if Pogba were to leave and we were to sign Rice we'd be left with a midfield that still very flawed.

Can't even see us signing one midfielder let alone two

Does anyone think West Ham would do a cash plus Lingard deal for him realistically

The only clubs with any kind of budget this window will be the clubs that have sold a player. Having said that not many clubs will be buying & they will all be looking for a deal.
I don't see United having a large budget & I don't see Pogba selling for huge money.
West Ham can put a price tag on Rice that very few teams will be able to meet.

You guys will probably do some shrewd business because unlike us you have football people making decisions and not the egotistical business clowns that we have in place who are going nowhere sadly

I'm really not sure how much business Leicester will be able to afford this Summer. A striker to take her from Vardy is the priority but strikers don't come cheap !
Football people with a head for business are hard to find but business people who think they can buy football players are a dime a dozen.

Was he good yesterday? Is that why the thread has been bumped a bit?

Same. Wouldn`t be surprised if we used Pogba`s money to fund Sancho like how we funded Maguire/Bruno with Lukaku`s sale
And there`s talk of Mejbri being promoted and VDB will get more game time eventually those will be our "Pogba replacements"

I bumped it because Roy Keane was in a Q & A last night on Norwegian TV. One question was "which player in the Premier League reminds you the most of yourself?" Roy said Declan Rice reminds him of the older Keane when he was more of a holding midfielder instead of box-to-box.

I said that about a year ago and got laughed at
I said that a couple of weeks ago and nobody cared

Roy must really rate Rice giving him all sorts of compliment when he actually is raving pissed at him for choosing England over Ireland.

Declan Rice's West Ham contract ends summer 2024. West Ham have a + 1 year option according to Transfermarkt.

Just remember all the abuse flying around the club when they sold Grady Diangana to West Brom for £12m up to £18m with add-ons. Diangana had 6 PL starts for West Ham and 11 sub appearances, contributing 0 goals and 1 assist.

It would take an insane offer for West Ham to even consider selling Rice, until he gets to one year left on his contract. Even if they sold for £75m or £80m, the fans would be unhappy to say the least.

Jesse's value will have increased since going on loan to West Ham but he is still a 28 year old with one year left on his contract in the summer, that is surplus to requirements at United. So £10m, perhaps £15m.

And Moyes isn't the type of manager who wants a large transfer budget. He is a careful, deliberate, spender who needs ages to scout players before he is prepared to make a decision. He won't want to sell.

I'm not even convinced that Rice himself would desperately want to join United at this stage, when he could wait until he has one year left, then look at his options.

Who at West Ham would be in favour of selling, even for say Lingard + £65m ?

Would expect to get a severe discount based on his awful dance moves during Lingards celebration yesterday.

Just got a lot of fans who want him as our DM.

Interestingly the briefs so far suggest the positions of priority are CB / ST / RW. A central midfielder hasn’t been mentioned, and there’s not many links at all.

*Edit* It looks like Kundalini said it much better than I did. I should have kept reading.

Sure they would! But the cash part would be around 75 to 80M.

They know that we are looking to get rid of Lingard, so why would they help us out? I imagine Hammers fans would riot if they sold their young captain for anything less than stupid money.

Declan Rice's West Ham contract ends summer 2024.
Fair point. That being said, remember when he renewed that contract? He was a very attractive player at the time with six months left. 31st of december or something like that. It was speculation that there was some sort of gentlemens agreement made.

I think he will leave this summer or the next. And it will not be for £80 mill. My guess would be below £60 mill.

And dont forget, West Ham could do quite a bit for £50 mill this summer. Imagine what will happen in Ligue 1 where they often invest.

Maybe there are other/better/cheaper options out there, I don’t know.
However, a player like him would make such a difference.
If Lingard keeps producing 40 - 50 Mio + him might be realistic.
Also try to get a few others like Mata off the wage bill and maybe try to convince Alaba, as the financial packages is distributed over a few years and we would not need to pay such a huge one time fee.

Add Sancho as well and we are sorted.

He's doing/done an AMA on reddit and it's going exactly as you'd expect...

Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized Michail Antonio's, or 1 horse-sized Mark Noble?

I see that 90 min (dodgy source) is reporting that we have offered Matic/Jones/Lingard in order to sweeten a deal for Declan but pretty sure there is only one of them that would be remotely interesting

Matic could do a job for West Ham if they’ve got legs around him which is where struggle as we seem to usually play Matic with Pogba (McTominay with Fred) which means Matic has a lot more to do than we’d like with Pogba having a natural tendency to play further forward, West Ham have Soucek and Noble as well as Fornals.

Also a fit (yes I know what I’ve said there) Jones is better than any of their current centre backs, I don’t know his current status as he’s not in any of our registrated squad lists but he could be fit right now for all I know and it’s a case of he has no future for us so Ole not playing him.

Obviously there’s serious interest in Lingard especially with 3 goals and an assist in 3 games so he’s the key for sure, with Matic being almost a like for like and them definitely wanting Lingard I could maybe see West Ham accepting £45-£50 million plus those two and Jones for Rice which I’d be very happy with.

 In what reality is he better than Ogbonna,Diop or Dawson?

When properly fit ? Every single one of them but the problem is he’s rarely fit and can’t string more than a couple of games together without breaking down again.
So he isn’t because he’s not fit enough and seeing that fitness is part of it, Jones isn’t better.
If you’re going on talent, I’d dispute that too. He had one decent season when some labelled him the next Duncan Edwards but he has failed to live up to any hype. I’d like to see him fit then feck off out of the club

I’d also love to see him leave the club as he isn’t good enough or anywhere near reliable enough to stay with us BUT that doesn’t take away his ability WHEN he IS completely fit and COMPLETELY fit he’s good enough to start for any mid table club and better than most of the centre backs at those clubs.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one
