Feel sorry for Kelly there, clearly has the talent but perhaps a bit too clumsy allowing the body shots. One bonus is that I feel he might be more reluctant to showboat when he goes back to fighting journeymen.

Went pretty much as I thought. Thought beforehand that Avenesyan’s plan would be to take the sting out of him in the opening 1-4 rounds and end up melting him late. Turns out he didn’t even need to take him late. Sadly for Kelly, I don’t think that was a particularly hard night at the office for Avenesyan.

I don't think he has to talent really to be honest.

He has decent movement but lacks everything else, his punches clearly aren't that powerful and he misses a lot. He thinks he is peak Roy Jones with his over the top movement and slipping of punches but he still gets hit. He was ignoring his corner instructions as well abd whilst I thought it was early to throw the towel in it was only going to get worse.

What about this for a knock out from Oscar Valdez going backwards on the back foot!

The all New Zealand Heavyweight collision between ex WBO Champ Joseph Parker and unbeaten Junior Fa just ended.
Sounds like a cracking fight.
Parker got the unanimous decision but the margins varied wildly.

Judging by the "highlights" it doesn't look cracking fight!

Ha ha. I was following the text commentary on NZ Herald website whose reporter called it a draw.
Maybe he was being a bit kind to his fellow countrymen?

Can’t wait to see Tommy Fury fight tonight!

Only joking
Think they only announced the opponent a couple of days before the show and if that’s the best they could find the matchmaker is in the wrong job.
Just seen white type :D but point stands.

Geez had no business being in the ring with Canelo this morning. Looks like BJS is confirmed. That’s 3 fights in 5 months — Canelo’s a beast.

I agree with the sentiment but I wouldn't even count that last night. Just sparring with a crowd

Did you stay up to watch it. Props to you if you did....no bloody way I was killing myself to watch Canelo hit a heavy bag with legs

What do you think of this? Obviously BJS will put up more of a contest but I think Canelo runs through him relatively comfortably too.

Also in a way does Canelo's current achievements serve to cement GGG's ability? Considering that Golovkin arguably won the first and the second was very close too, especially at the age he was, when so many others look like they can't hang with Canelo at all.

Yeah, I don’t think BJS offers much resilience. I think it was probably an interesting fight about 3-4 years ago — Canelo runs through him, pretty much. Happy news too — seeing as the guy is basically pond scum.

On the Golovkin stuff - I’d say GGG probably won the first fight, and I say it goes some ways to cement his legacy. His CV might not *quite* stack up, and he never did push up weight, but he’s certainly one of the exceptional middleweights we’ve seen in the past however many years.

Yeah that is how I see it too. Although I do think that GGG was unfortunate in that he wasn't given the fights he deserved in his prime because he was high risk, low reward. How I wish boxing was able to force these fights more!!

For example if I had it my way AJ and Fury would have already fought, and AJ would have fought Wilder too. Basically the top fighters 'have' to fight the other top ones. Like how Spence vs Crawford should be now. I think GGG suffered from the politics when he was in his prime. Canelo is incredible though, and like you said the BJS fight should have happened 3-4 years ago but alas boxing politics!

The flip side is though, as an MMA fan firstly, is that boxers get the pay they deserve while the public lose out on fights whereas MMA fighters fight the best but get screwed on money. A slippery slope. All I know is that as a fan for example I wish Pac vs Floyd happened 3-4 years earlier but all we got was each side blaming the other when neither fighter was scared of the other at all at any point for me.

Canelo beats BJS easily IMO. Everytime Canelo faces a brit, there's always the same pundits (mainly Nelson) who offer a characteristic as to why it will be a difficult fight for Canelo and the Brit has a good chance of winning before subsequently getting dominated. BJS is overrated, his career defining win is against Lemeuix who is lower world level fighter. Eubank Jr was a relative novice on the big stage when he fought BJS and won the last 5/6 rounds for me. Not to take anything away from BJS, but it was hardly a fight that cemented BJS at the top of the division.

In terms of GGG, I'd say yes it does cement his legacy even more for boxing fans. We all knew how good and powerful he was, and he took on Canelo and beat him (!). If they fought now, I'd no doubt Canelo would win.

As someone who waves the Canelo flag on here, I will defend him for fighting Yildirim. It is a tick-over fight for BJS in May and Plant in September. And he will be fighting 4 times in 12 months assuming everything goes to plan.. whereas most others are fighting once a year at the moment.

I think the only slim chance Saunders had was a few years back when he beat Lemieux and seemed to be stripped a bit fitter. His performances have been flat since then whereas Canelo seems to have found another level. Coupled with the fact Saunders can't punch, it's difficult to make a case for BJS.

So happy to see Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez get made. I don't think there's a fight this year I'd be more excited about with the possible exception of a certain heavyweight fight. Taylor a clear-cut favorite, but the styles figure to blend well and I think Ramirez will bring out the best in him. The winner will be a deserving pound-for-pound entrant (I mean Taylor surely already is), and if Taylor wins, he'll be Britain's first four belt undisputed champ, and Scotland's first undisputed champion period since Ken Buchanan in 1971. Ramirez would the the first four-belt undisputed boxer of Mexican origin too. So, some nice little history there.

Winner would also be a fantastic opponent for Teofimio Lopez if he moves up and decides he wants to have some fights away from social media, or even the winner could go up and challenge Crawford since Crawford can't get a decent opponent at welterweight.

I reckon I hear more from him than I do my parents. Every bloody day running his mouth about something. He’s rapidly becoming the most annoying boxer out there

I don’t like him at all either, not sure what it is but there’s a certain arrogance to him.

Here is an interview I did with Yahoo Sports! Brasil about my upcoming book. Should be easy to translate on deepl or if you are on a desktop and it automatically translated pages for you.

On March 9th, an interview I did with The Japan Times will be featured too, and then once the book is released, a review in Japan's "Boxing Magazine" and "The Ring" also.

Just booked to go to Dallas next weekend for Estrada vs. Chocolatito II. As some of you in here know, I've been a big fan of both these guys for a long, long time. Dating back to before they first fought each other in 2012. Expecting another thriller here, but make Estrada a clear-cut favorite.

That’s brilliant man, should be a great fight. Chocolatito is a wonderful fighter to watch great combinations I hope he wins.

Just got back from Dallas and wow what a fight that was last night. One of the absolute finest I’ve ever witnessed. I think a draw or even a Chocolatito win would have been more fair but I guess they’ll go again.

Apparently a very poor atmosphere and attendance.
Hopefully they'll get a better venue next time but superb fight nevertheless.

great fight, was very hard to score, I had Cocolatito just about edging it, although I can see why others would disagree. The earlier fight was shaping up also, the 4 ft 10 fella v the Japanese fighter, bad hand break for him
