Good feature in The Athletic this week on the Haaland / Keane tackle.

Although this quote got me;

“I’ve never forgotten it,” Bernstein says. “From a personal point of view, that was the worst individual thing I’ve been directly involved in, and the worst I’ve ever seen on the pitch. As a human being, it was an awful thing to see.”
Apparently, he missed Ben Thatcher assaulting Pedro Mendes while he was playing for City or perhaps Michael Brown stamping on Ronaldo as he lay on the floor. What a ridiculous, hyperbole comment.

it was awful but Bernstein is being a right drama queen about it

I get the point being made, they were all terrible but the other 2 did a player in the moment where with Keane it almost felt planned in advance given their history.

Timing of this considering all the Haaland summer rumours.

In his opinion. Nothing hyperbolic about that at all.

It was a horrible assault and done with the sole intention of causing as much lasting damage as possible.

Not true. He didn’t want to end his career. He wanted to hurt him.
I didn't say end his career. I said cause as much lasting damage as possible.

Your conflating the misinformation that Halaand's career was ended by that injury, which it wasn't, with what I said.

I've always had a feeling the connection his dad has to our club will prevent him ever wearing red.
Our lack of recent success and his agent are much likely to prevent that from happening.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Right. So he wanted to cause as much lasting damage as possible but didn’t want to end his career...how does that work then? I’m conflating your own words with what you said.

Thatcher ran 50 yards with one sole intention. He made no effort for the ball and elbowed Mendez in the jaw at full tilt.
If that's not premeditated I don't know what is.

the worst thing about the whole thing for me is Keane doesn't even regret doing it

I can want to cause significant damage without wanting to end someone's career. Surely not that difficult to grasp.

Again, that's an opinion. I agree I think Thatchers "challenge" was much worse but someone saying they thought Keane on Halaand was worse isn't hyperbole, even if you disagree.
You're talking out of your arse as I say, you cannot watch this and tell me ANYONE can think Keane's challenge was the worst he's seen, it's hyperbolic nonsense.

It is when it's clearly Bernstein shitstirring in the media the weekend of the derby, and when both clubs might be in for a player.

I'd love to see a showdown between Erling Haaland and Roy Keane.

I'd frame it like an old Japanese Samurai movie where Erling avengers his father against Shogun Keane-Sama

From the horses mouth

However, Keane also goes on to say in his new book, The Second Half, that he has never regretted slamming his studs into the knee of the Manchester City player. Haaland, he says, “pissed me off, shooting his mouth off. He was an absolute prick to play against. Niggling, sneaky. I did want to nail him and let him know what was happening. I wanted to hurt him and stand over him and go: ‘Take that, you cnut.’ I don’t regret that. But I had no wish to injure him.
“It was action; it was football. It was dog eats dog. I’ve kicked lots of players and I know the difference between hurting somebody and injuring somebody. I didn’t go to injure Haaland. When you play sport, you know how to injure somebody.

Of course I can and I'm sure there are plenty of people that can show other challenges they feel are worse than the ones you're posting. Doesn’t make your opinion hyperbolic, the same way Bernstein saying, in his opinion, its the worse challenge he's seen.

A few players have collapsed and died on the pitch so that's pretty bad to have seen.

But his point is fair.

I remember being in the stadium for the game... Funny thing was at the time I remember us being all a bit shocked that the Red Card came out (and I was in the Stretford End, so that side of the ground)... felt like it was just a late challenge for the ball (which like Keane himself says was "there") and Keane caught him.

It was only afterwards when you saw it on MOTD I realised what a dreadful challenge it was.
