He won’t be backed regardless of the contract situation. I highly doubt we’ll spend more than £50 million this summer. My concern is more that no new contract probably means no backing this summer while they 'wait and see '

Signing better players is paramount to this happening so as long as that does happen then we should expect that. If it doesn't then we shouldn't expect that. It's a pretty clear and simple science that some really like to over complicate. So next season is it fair to expect much better football and process again? With good performance in the CL, along with a cup win at least.
Because the football lately has been an absolute bore and I don't see how Ole can take us above where we are, but that's expecting too much. I just want to know what other fans expect from Ole going forward.
It actually would be.There should be absolutely no reason to rush a contract just yet. If we finish the season scraping into top 4 with another year of no trophies, does that constitute progress? I wouldn't think so. We need to stop embracing Glazer mediocrity and be progressive and dare I say - a little ruthless for once.
What's this based on? Despite United saying they want three big signings this summer and year on year?He won’t be backed regardless of the contract situation. I highly doubt we’ll spend more than £50 million this summer.
It’s my own opinion mate. Ole has already tried to temper supporter expectations with his recent comments about spending. What's this based on? Despite United saying they want three big signings this summer and year on year?
Who has left the club in the last two years who you think Ole was instrumental in getting out the door? Fred Flinstone could have been made manager instead and it wouldn't have made one bit of difference to, for example, the career paths of Sanchez, Darmian, Pereira, TFM, CBJ or Rojo. The only player I'd give Ole credit to for moving on, which benefited the club in the long run, was Lukaku. Because that is the only player we sold who other managers might have rather kept and built a team around. The rest were earmarked for departure long before Ole came.Managers have very little to do with moving on players? Are you joking?
Who told you this?
Just vibes I am getting when reading articles from people like Whitwell & Ducker who are pretty well connected, also didn't feel very good when Cooper described these appointments as a evolution rather than revolutionWhat's this based on? Despite United saying they want three big signings this summer and year on year?
You said managers have little to do with moving on players they don’t want, A completely false statement that you made up to bash Ole, Ole has cleared out the majority of the dead wood that Mourinho failed to do. Mourinho didn’t sell them because he knew their experience would bring him short term success (Bad for the future).Who has left the club in the last two years who you think Ole was instrumental in getting out the door? And then there are other players like Herrera, Young, Smalling and Lingard who all moved on despite Ole's apparent preference at the time being for them to stay.
You completely fail to comprehend the difference between a manager making obvious squad decisions and the immensely difficult job (partly because of our catastrophic approach to player contracts) of actually moving the players on. We were trying to get rid of the likes of Rojo and Darmian long before Ole turned up. Sanchez was on his way regardless of who was made permanent manager. You think Ole deserves some sort of special credit for them leaving? Or for clearly not-Prem standard youth products like Pereira, CBJ or TFM getting moved on after their opportunities for loan moves dried up? Absolutely not.You said managers have little to do with moving on players they don’t want, A completely false statement that you made up to bash Ole, Ole has cleared out the majority of the dead wood that Mourinho failed to do. Ole told Smalling he wasn’t going to be first choice and if he wanted to leave he could, that’s apparently nothing to do with Ole though? Lingard hadn’t hardly been picked to play in months before we loaned him out.
Managers have everything to do with players who are moved on, I wonder why we got rid of Schweinsteiger, was it because Mourinho was making him train on his own or what was it in your opinion?
If a Manager who has the trust of his board tells them that a player isn’t in their plans and they aren’t going to use them, most of the time they’ll be loaned or sold if a move is beneficial to the player and club.
Can’t believe I’m even arguing about this “Managers have little to do with moving players on” what a daft statement.
No no mate Ole is totally different he shipped out Smalling, TFM, Rojo, Alexis, Lukaku, Darmian, Valencia, Young, Fellaini and Herrera. Clearly getting rid of deadwood. You completely fail to comprehend the difference between a manager making obvious squad decisions and the immensely difficult job (partly because of our catastrophic approach to player contracts) of actually moving the players on. "Cleared out the deadwood" is a vacuous catchphrase used way too often around here. A club is never free of deadwood, there's always a handful of players that fall under that category, there was before Ole turned up and there still is today. And the next manager will no doubt be looking at James, Donny and AWB, and let's face it probably Maguire too, as deadwood, in the same way that Ole looked at Smalling, Matic and Lukaku.
At the start of the season you said you couldn’t see us qualifying for top four based on our squad and manager.Klopp won 2 leagues during that run. And at the end won the most important cup in club's football.
With Ole it is just blind faith that he will do it one day. But in reality, he will not.
Maguire and AWB as deadwood for our next manager? You completely fail to comprehend the difference between a manager making obvious squad decisions and the immensely difficult job (partly because of our catastrophic approach to player contracts) of actually moving the players on. You can literally see from the list of players there the difference in what Ole has done. I have no idea how you think this list supports your point. For a start two of Mourinho’s “dead wood” were signed by him.No no mate Ole is totally different he shipped out Smalling, TFM, Rojo, Alexis, Lukaku, Darmian, Valencia, Young, Fellaini and Herrera. Clearly getting rid of deadwood.
I mean Mourinho shipped out Blind, Johnstone, Januzaj, Mhikitaryan, Rooney, Ibrahimovic, Varela, Schneiderlin, Depay, McNair, Blackett, Victor Valdes and Varela.
LVG sold Di Maria, Chicharito, Evans, RVP, Nani, Rafael, Angelo Henriquez, Cleverley, Welbeck, Kawaga, Buttner, Bebe, Evra, Macheda, Vidic and Ferdinand.
But that's totally different, they just shipped out players nothing like the wonderful job Ole is doing shipping out deadwood. Impressive by Ole, amazing he's done it really.
You think it's inconceivable that our next manager might look at AWB and Maguire in the same vein that Ole looked at Smalling and Lukaku when he took the job? Deadwood isn't the right word, obviously doesn't apply to any of the four, but "not in the managers plans" certainly does. I think it's very likely the next manager will see their signings as mistakes to be corrected. Much like how I thought Mourinho's signings of Matic and Lukaku would turn into mistakes to be corrected sooner rather than later. Luckily for Maguire he's going to prove too costly a mistake for anyone to correct any time soon.Maguire and AWB as deadwood for our next manager?
Do you lot actually believe some of the things you write?
There's no difference beyond the quick turnaround of Di Maria and Mkhitaryan. This forum was raving about LVG moving on Welbeck, Cleverley, Buttner, Bebe, Macheda, and even Nani, at the time. And about him phasing out the older players. Exactly the same fallacy then as we're seeing now. Because almost exactly the same outgoings would have happened regardless of who was managing. You can literally see from the list of players there the difference in what Ole has done. I have no idea how you think this list supports your point. For a start two of Mourinho’s “dead wood” were signed by him.
Maguire could be a look in for team of the season and AWB is a young full back who has a very promising future. You think it's inconceivable that our next manager might look at AWB and Maguire in the same vein that Ole looked at Smalling and Lukaku when he took the job? Smalling had a couple of periods of excellent form under LVG and Mourinho, where he was talked about as being a shout for tots. Lukaku scored 27 goals in his first season with us. Ole still deemed them surplus to requirements.Maguire could be a look in for team of the season and AWB is a young full back who has a very promising future.
Despite what people think, Solskjaer's first summer wasn't that bad. We got Maguire, James, Wan-Bissaka, and Bruno (January). Then last summer we didn't do that much business due to COVID, and we weren't the only one's being careful with our spending. Every club that isn't backed by someone who's oil rich was in the same position.Just vibes I am getting when reading articles from people like Whitwell & Ducker who are pretty well connected, also didn't feel very good when Cooper described these appointments as a evolution rather than revolution
What's he supposed to say? It’s my own opinion mate. Ole has already tried to temper supporter expectations with his recent comments about spending.
I appreciate where you're coming from and agree that there are definite signs of progress in some areas. Still, we should be playing CL football right now and that monumental balls up falls on the manager's shoulders. After that clusterfeck, we need to progress as far as is possible in the Europa League to make amends. He's taken us to 4 (?) semi-finals now and we've crapped out of every time. He needs to show he's able to elevate the team and himself to that next level by actually getting to a final and ideally winning something. He's been here for nearly 3 years now. I also have fairly big concerns regarding some of our transfers. The integration of Van de Beek, in particular, has been quite peculiar and speaks to our continued misfiring in the transfer market. This summer and next season are absolutely make or break and I really hope he can do it (assuming we finish strong this season). In fairness I have totally lost the plot in this thread a little
I’m extremely doubtful Ole is the man to win us titles but the disrespect he receives for the job he’s done so far is ludicrous and it is starting to seriously piss me off. Finishing 3rd last year with Pogba and Rashford out for most of the season and Bruno only there for half of it was actually overachieving. Andreas Pereira was first choice for christ sake. There was a thread on here saying we could be relegated!!! Same with finishing 2nd this year, after the clusterfeck of the summer we’d have snapped that up at the start of the season. Instead people are trying to rewrite history and insist we should be challenging city for the title. It’s bollocks. He is getting what he should out of the squad whilst slowly integrating young talent and improving it. We’re in a far better place than when he arrived and as long as there are signs of progress he deserves to stay.
Tin foil hats on. C*cks out. Thats some quality transfer mupperty right thereBeen doing a bit of thinking and this whole thing seemed odd. There is no pressure from the fans to give Ole a new contract just like when he became a permanent manager.
So why now?
I think the answer is Halaand. Someone leaked the news yesterday that he is our main priority this summer and that we're going all out for him. Now when you couple that with the fact that Ole is getting a new contract, it all makes sense.
Something tells me that our club has been in touch with Halaand's representatives and one of the the assurances was that Ole should be our manager for the long haul. Ole was one of Halaand's original mentors plus that would 100% guarantee him that he'd be a key player for us.
If you think about it this way it makes more sense why our club decided to renew Ole's contract mid season with so many competitions in balance and Top4 not yet secured. Though I'm fairly certain that we won't announce the new deal until we have Top4 all wrapped up. That and I imagine Halaand would require that we're playing in the CL next season if he decides to come.
What evidence do you have on that? Just an opinion? As long as he gets top 4 he can play shit defensive football and will have his contract renewed. If he wins the league cup and FA cup, playing expansive fast flowing attacking football but finishes 5th he will be gone. Simple as that.
To make it clear, we are extending his contract to convince Haaland? What if he does not sign for us? Alternatively, he signs, we turn shite and sack Ole. What happens next?Been doing a bit of thinking and this whole thing seemed odd. There is no pressure from the fans to give Ole a new contract just like when he became a permanent manager.

ffs! He’s doing a good job so far and deserves another summer minimum.Good thing we tied him down now, all the European Giants were circling im sure!
That’s a cracking and original joke! Did you come up with this yourself?! Amazing!Good thing we tied him down now, all the European Giants were circling im sure!
Haha exactly this. Some fans need to chill on trying to find things Ole’s ‘done’. Judge him on coaching, what we see on the pitch and trophies. No no mate Ole is totally different he shipped out Smalling, TFM, Rojo, Alexis, Lukaku, Darmian, Valencia, Young, Fellaini and Herrera. Clearly getting rid of deadwood.

He’s not the coach. He’s the manager of Manchester United. If people can’t acknowledge the progress we have made in every dept since he arrived and have optimism for the future for further development then I have to wonder if these people are paying enough attention. We are a force to be reckoned with again. We’ve got our pride back, we are doing the right things on and off the pitch. We can’t play like the Harlem globe trotters every game.Haha exactly this. Some fans need to chill on trying to find things Ole’s ‘done’. Judge him on coaching, what we see on the pitch and trophies.
AWB and Maguire are both excellent, would be madness to get rid of them.Smalling had a couple of periods of excellent form under LVG and Mourinho, where he was talked about as being a shout for tots. Lukaku scored 27 goals in his first season with us. Ole still deemed them surplus to requirements.
If a new manager came in and wanted to revitalise the back four, pretending money was no object for a second, would anyone be tearing their hair out at AWB and Maguire being replaced? Nope, not a chance. Probably not even as much of a fuss as when LVG sold Evans and Welbeck.
You would even argue that Lukaku, Smalling and Herrera would still make our team stronger were they here. The real deadwood is still here on the medical couch.Haha exactly this. Some fans need to chill on trying to find things Ole’s ‘done’. Judge him on coaching, what we see on the pitch and trophies.
How does Herrera make the team stronger when you essentially have two facsimiles to him in Fred and McTominay, who are more reliable to stay fit?You would even argue that Lukaku, Smalling and Herrera would still make our team stronger were they here. The real deadwood is still here on the medical couch.
What is the source that leaked that little gem of information?Been doing a bit of thinking and this whole thing seemed odd. There is no pressure from the fans to give Ole a new contract just like when he became a permanent manager.

No I don’t think they would at all. Lukaku is a machine for Inter but was not doing it for us and still wrong fit. The other two, plain “no”.You would even argue that Lukaku, Smalling and Herrera would still make our team stronger were they here. The real deadwood is still here on the medical couch.
Specifically on transfers, which is what the poster was talking about, I don’t understand why people praise managers (in general not just Ole) for players leaving who are already on their way out/the club is trying to sell. He’s not the coach. He’s the manager of Manchester United. If people can’t acknowledge the progress we have made in every dept since he arrived and have optimism for the future for further development then I have to wonder if these people are paying enough attention. The players clearly like Ole, so it might not be anything more than simply providing them with a bit of reassurance and stability. Unless you've lost the dressing room, not knowing whether your manager is sticking around can be rather unsettling. There might well be contract negotiations hanging on it as well.Been doing a bit of thinking and this whole thing seemed odd. This bit really annoys me he is here much closer to 2 years than 3. Less than 2 years and 3 months total, less than 2 as permanent managerI appreciate where you're coming from and agree that there are definite signs of progress in some areas. The idea is that Ole is going to get a contract extension at the end of the season. But instead we're giving it to him now before we begin the negotiations for Halaand.
Christ. Of all the interesting points of debate to be had about Ole and the club and that's what you contribute! This is his third season in charge. People will say this is Tuchel's first season in charge. Big expectations in less than generous timeframes are unavoidable at big clubs. He's been here long enough now that we need to see results. I don't know how I'd make it through the day (or bother reading/posting on a forum) if small things like that annoyed me to be honest. This bit really annoys me he is here much closer to 2 years than 3. I don't know why it annoys me but it does.
