How good is Harry Kane?

He’d be devastating at City and £100 million for them would be a bargain to acquire him. They would also be able to rest him far more than Spurs and probably avoid the injuries he’s suffered from time to time. If he were to go there, they’ve basically got the league sewn up for the next 5 years.

He won't be available for 100 million.

Surely he's going to overtake Alan Shearer as the top goalscorer in the Premier League. Assuming he'll stay in the league, of course.

Kane already has the 14th best output of anybody who's played in the PL with another 4 or 5 seasons left in his career to improve on that total.

But even more flattering for him is this table of end product per appearance:

Kane has the 5th best end product per appearance in Premier League history. And that's considering it's only this season he's only learned how to assist consistently. There's every chance he could jump a place or two up the list by the time he retires.

So the answer to the OP is 'world class'.

By the way... Henry was unreal. Easily the best player I've ever seen in the PL. Should have ended his career with several Ballon D'Ors. Even better than Ronaldo when he was here, imo.

I think he is an excellent player, but I have lost any sympathy towards him watching his behaviour on the pitch. He is literally going into every game trying to injure other players, he should be called for that and hopefully someone does that to him which will put him down from doing it again before he injures someone more seriously.

I actually discount his England goals due to the weak opposition England play. Lithuania & Montenegro for example. If Rooney or Charlton played against the same quality of International opposition they would have doubled their totals.
Many of Rooney's goals are in Euro and WC qualifiers against the likes of San Marino, etc.

That table just shows how underrated Andy Cole was. Barely ever gets talked about.

His combination of goals and assists this season has been really impressive. Could very easily finish top on both counts in the league this season while playing in a fairly shite Mourinho side.

True. It's kind of weird really. I still have his, Solskjærs and Beckhams autograph hidden away at home from the 99 season. I was pissed off though because I mainly wanted Giggs autograph. These 3 were absolute gentlemen though.

I admire his loyalty to Spurs, but I think he really has to move to one of the biggest clubs to get some trophies before he retires. Shearer's legacy suffered for similar reasons.

Should be at a bigger club. If not us, then a City, a Chelsea, even Arsenal. But don’t let a player of this ability spend his whole career at Spurs.

No team in particular.
As of right at this moment on form? Definitely in the conversation for best in the world.

Over his career? Behind Lewa, and of course Messi, Ronaldo if you think they are strikers. Shades Benzema for me, but it is close. Hard to know where to put Mbappe given he plays for PSG in a league that they should walk given their attacking talent, feel he needs to be doing it in a much more competitive league before he will be in the conversation. Haaland too early to tell, but both could be potential Ballon d'Or winners later in their careers.

I guess you can argue the same with Lewa about playing in the best team in the league because of how dominant Bayern are, Bayern have won the Bundesliga since the 12-13 season, Lewa joined the start of the 14-15 season, 6 titles at Bayern. But his stats at Dortmund were also impressive.
Mbappé shined with Monaco and PSG in Champions League, a thing that Kane hasn't done yet.
When Tottenham reached the semifinal, their best player was Lucas Moura not Harry Kane.

He's absolutely class until he turns up at Anfield (like 99% of footballers who turn into donkeys who can't hit a barn door once they rock up there)
Wrong. He's actually one of the better strikers who has a decent record of scoring there. Scored there 4 times in 4 separate games. Better than Aguero who could never score there during his time with City and his Atletico Madrid days.

I think bale has influenced kane's decision to seek greener pastures. Kane is at the same level as bale when he left spurs and he's gone onto win a tonne of silverware and isn't hated by the spurs fans. Kane wants to replicate that.

He’s absolutely world class, unbelievable footballer. He will go down as an all time PL great.

Seems a likeable bloke, hope he signs with United but looking like it’s going to be City..

He's very good, clearly. I remember saying last summer, after Martial had a decent season, that I would swap Kane for Martial in a heartbeat and got slated for it on here.

I still don't think he is worth £130m though. Considering his age, he will have very little resale value towards the end of his 5 year contract.

A lot of big clubs in the last decade have been smart and bought YOUNG top quality players, who even after years of being with their clubs, are now worth more and if sold, the money can be reinvested. We should be thinking like that.

If the club want to spend that money then it HAS to be for Haaland. No one else.

He/his agent have unleashed their PR machinery now to try and have the fans on ‘their side’. The whole “I want to be the best version of myself” line that he kept repeating in his interview with Gary was straight out of some PR book.
They know that this one is going to be a long drawn out saga if Levy wants it to be, and they want to control the narrative here.
At the end of the day, I don’t think he’s worth the 120mil plus price tag, given his age, injury history and the general climate given Covid.

Off topic so apologies, but Beckham's standing surprised me. Hypothetically if he carried his career at United he could very easily have finished as the highest scoring midfielder.

Henry looking as stellar as ever. In response to the OP he is easily world class with the potential (time) to reach Shearer's record which would speak for itself.

Harry Kane for me is a great, world class player.

However, I believe he slows down a team, gives a team a pivot that may not necessary need a pivot and gives his team an obvious team shape that can be easier to defend to - leaving the team most likely only as good as Kane maybe on the day.

It’s a hard thing to describe without sounding like I don’t rate him - because I do.

The best way to explain it is by watching Cavani - he is kind of not involved in the build up much at all and focusing on the positions to get for a simple finish; leaving the rest of the team having the ability to play to their speed, tricks and level to set him up. This is what I see in also in a striker like Haaland or maybe even Lewandowski - less involved in the team build up than Kane but more focused on the pure striker role whilst the rest of team focus on setting them up.

Kane is the opposite, is usually part of the build up whilst may usually be part of the finish. It gives the team the shape of Kane’s gameplay which can have some slight negative consequences hidden behind the positive ones.

Sounds like you'd prefer playing like Pep's City: Attacking without a clear striker, while every other midfielder can score the goals needed.

He plays for Spurs where he's the best striker and the best creator at the same time. The only other good attacker they have is Son who's at his best running behind the line. Is it any surprise then that he drops deep and does what's needed for Spurs to do well? There's no way he's dropping that deep and playing the creator all the time in a team that has a Bruno, Pogba, KDB etc. Yes, he'll still be involved in the build up, it'd be poor to not mix it up and use his skills but it certainly won't be like at Spurs, where he's in the center circle half the game.

Even when I watch Kane for Spurs and England he can play like the main and only man, the team is only as good as he is on the day. (Kane’s CL final injury return performance is maybe unfair to bring up but still; it’s just an example I remember).

When I see Kane for Spurs and his great performances with Son they tend to be nice assists and goals on the counter after Kane makes some nice passes. I’m not really sure if his ST style fits the possession football that city end up having to play against lower block teams.

Whilst people are scared of Kane at city if it does happen - I don’t necessarily think it will work out as much as it might meet the eye.

Kane would suit City's current style. He could easily play that false 8 role KDB has been all season. Allowing KDB go back to bossing center midfield instead of operating as a false striker. And with City's glut of scoring flankers. Kane would have 'a whole bunch of Son's' to link up with.

Infact I think he'd even suit us and pool for similar reasons. It's for a Chelsea where I just don't see the fit.

Comes across as really likeable, the leader by example type.

I think he'll stay at Spurs though. He'll become the highest PL goalscorer and at some stage Tottenham will win an FA Cup or Carabao and everyone will rejoice for him.

Like how good he is with his build up play and creating chances for others as well as being a top scorer. Could probably fit into a lot of teams.

It's concerning how good he'll be under Pep. The Abi Dhabi project now has a stranglehold on the league with 3/4 league wins and 5/9.

I don't watch England play so can't comment on that but what you're saying for Spurs is true but I've explained why he has to do it in my post. He's not going to drop in midfield and hog the ball from KDB, Pogba and Bruno to orchestrate play.

He is a quality player no doubt, however, I fear if anyone lays out huge cash for him they maybe disappointed as I feel you will see him more and more on the treatment table over the next few years as he’s had several bad ankle injuries and they may well start to take a significant toll on him.

He should have left Spurs a season or 2 ago instead of signing that new contract.

Realistically there are only 3 teams that could afford what Levy will demand and that’s City, Chelsea and PSG.

Smalling had him in his pocket everytime they faced each other :smirk:

Kane is a world class striker who leads the line well and links up play really well.

Should be playing in the champions league.
Lots of players play in the champions and first three losers league. Kane should have actual medals.
If you boys do the bizzi today, ours even stand a chance of doing so, even if they have hearts of pudding sometimes

Below Big Body Benz and Lewandowski. Lacks their CV in the big leagues. Probably best of the next bracket. Current Ronaldo level, slightly above likes of Haaland, Suarez, Lukaku, etc.
