I doubt it's even an advantage so I wouldn't even waste time worrying about it. What about all the other players we need? Shall we bring in their past coaches too when we're ready to sign them?
Why wouldn't it be? They have worked together before, they have a close personal relationship and Haaland himself has gone on record numerous times and praised Ole for how he helped him develop.

An advantage over other clubs that have the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Zidane etc? Come on now. He was his coach as a young player back in Norway, that doesn't mean much now apart from he knows Ole will give him a chance. But the other coaches could make him better, could help him achieve titles. Haaland isn't going to come here just because we have Ole, who could end up gone within a year or two if things don't go well.

Well, having Ole around surely doesn't count as a negative in regards to Haaland at least.

Not a negative, no. I don't know or have any insight into the type of guy that Haaland is, but if he's looking for another stepping stone in his career and wants a 'safe' move where he'll get more exposure and guaranteed gametime, then Ole may just be his man.

But this original 'debate', if you could call it that, came because @Bobcat implied we need to keep Ole to make sure we get Haaland. I was just questioning that logic. His dad played for City...I feel like that would hold more clout right now, especially with Guardiola and the trophies they compete for. And the money, of course.

Being honest I think Haaland knows he can get into pretty much any team in the world, he'll be looking at thropies, money and system.

We can offer the second one only, I doubt Ole has any specific weight over him. If given the chance to play under let's say Pep or Ole who would you choose? One of the greatest managers in history or your pal Ole who managed you in the Norwegian league?

I mean I'm not saying it doesnt hold weight at all, Im saying it doesnt hold much weight. It wont be a determining factor, if anything is like a youngster having appreciation for their academy coach. Sure you have certain love and respect for him but thats not going to determine your move at all.

Pep, Klopp and Zidane being elsewhere is very much out of our control. Sacking Ole wont make them any less attractive for Haaland

I'm not sure what point you are now making? First it was that we must keep Ole to try to tempt Haaland, now you're saying sacking Ole won't stop Haaland going to City, Liverpool or Real? You just seem to be moving the goalposts around. I just wanted to point out that it would be daft to keep Ole just to get Haaland, that is all. Not that I think it would have any impact for Ole's future or Haaland's next move either way.

Ok, ill make it real simple

United with Ole = Slightly better chance of landing Haaland
United without Ole = Slightly less chance of landing Haaland

You were the one who bloody brought up Pep and Klopp, but in this case its utterly irrelevant to the matter because there is about 0,1% chance they will be managing us. If we sacked Ole and hired Allegri instead, Pep would still be at City, Klopp would still be at Pool and Zidane would still be at Real.

And is it worth sticking with a manager for a little while longer if it increases your chances of landing a once in a generation talent? Of course it fecking is. With the amount of attention hes getting, Haaland will probably move this summer and will 100% move next summer when the release clause activates.

Besides, whats the absolute worst that is going to happen if we stick with Ole another season? He fails to meet that seasons goals and he gets sacked. Thats it. Its not like hes going to get us relegated

Simply not true. If we had any other manager like Tuchel, Pochettino we’d be more likely then with Ole.

You're the one missing the point, or just forgetting your original point.

You said "we need Ole as leverage" and that having Ole is our "biggest (only?) advantage over other big clubs". This implies Ole is an advantage over Pep etc, so naturally I am going to mention their names. I thought the argument was simple to begin with, it is you that is taking me on your weird and wonderful trip around the houses to try to make some sort of point as to why we should keep Ole to tempt Haaland. Even though you've sort of conceded that point.

Not that I want to get into the debate on keeping Ole. I just merely wanted to say he isn't an "advantage" or "leverage" when other teams have better managers.

Christ.

Can you back up that claim with anything substantial?
You claim having Ole is an advantage just because once upon a time he played under him as a teenager. I don’t see how that makes a difference in us getting him whether his our manager or not. I’m simply stating having a better manager would be more of an advantage.

What you’re saying is not true either. It’s opinion. Two different things.

I believe we have a better chance of signing Haaland with Ole in charge, than we have of signing Haaland with Poch, Allegri, Tuchel or Nagelsmann. You might believe otherwise, but I think there are good arguments to be made to why Ole might put us in a better position to persuade Haaland to choose us, than if we have a brand new manager after giving up on yet another project.

Is it “true”? No. It’s opinion. Is it “false”? No. Still opinion.

I think you’re underestimating their relationship. Ole is a close family friend of the Haalands, and Erling has known him since he was born. It’s not just a couple of years in the Molde academy, ffs.

This is before even mentioning Ole scoring probably the second most famous goal in Norwegian football history, basically becoming folklore. And playing in the NT with his dad for a decade. And tonnes of other factors, far extending the usual “coach - player” relationship for a couple of years at Molde.

Edit: They only played together in the NT for half a decade. Sorry. My point still stands.

Are you wumming me right now?
,
Pep has nothing to do with this. We could sack Ole tomorrow and he'd still be managing City. Agreed? I never said Ole was an advantage over Pep, i said United with Ole had a higher chance than United without Ole.

Lets be real here. For most players i'd imagine City right now is a more attractive destination than us. Unless they have some moral obligation against playing for a soulless oil club, but other than that there are none.

And as @Skåre Willoch said here. Their connection goes well beyond just a player/coach relationship. Thats a unique advantage we have.....as long as Ole is manager

We've spent £130m on defenders and £120m on attackers (not counting Diallo yet) and we've gone from 81 points (José's final season) to 66 points (José/Ole) to 66 points in the league (Ole), while doing worse in the cups. Is that really two steps forward and one step back?
He didn't take over after we finished on 81 points playing crap football. He took over 6 months later when it had all come crashing down and had to be rebuilt.

When will people stop waffling on about 81 points?

We've scored 56 goals this season which is less than 2 goals a game - thats a decent scoring record. 15 of those goals came in 2 games though. Outside of those 2 games, we've 41 goals in 27 games - 1.5 per game, thats very average.

Like I said, we're more unadventurous than not.
It's hard to be adventurous against teams that play 11 men in their own half. We're just missing a really gifted dribbler I think.

Haaland was sold the same year Ole took the manager job in United, it's not 10 years agoe
Haaland is going where he gets the highest salary and surly where there is a lot more sun. He's gonna end up in Italy or Spain even if we get Zidane as a manager with Tuchel, Klopp and Poch in the team.
He won't choose his next club because a specific manager is there. Haaland wants to have things in his contract that's not allowed in England. That was the main reason he went to Dortmund, they get just about nothing back when he goes to his next club.

I thought the Premier League was his favourite? I don't doubt he will want to dominate other leagues at some point but would have thought his first choice to spend his peak England.

Just read an article on ESPN of Tuchel. Fantastic article, did ESPN do a piece on Ole? Beside bringing happiness back to the squad, what did he do tactically? I was watching a show the other day and they ask if Utd is the second best team in England. Basically, nobody thinks we are. Everyone say Liverpool is still the 2nd best team. After 2.5 years, they insists that they don’t know what is Utd style. It is so weird that a club in the top 4 has no style of play. Frankly speaking, I doubt Utd can win anything with Ole.

The Haaland point is moot. He also has one of the most difficult agents around. They play for money. Haaland knows that he can get whatever kind of contract he wants at any big club that has better chances of winning the CL. He is not going to come around to play for Ole because he is a friend. This is purely business.

ESPN didn’t write a piece on Ole?!! But they did one for Tuchel?? That’s it! Get him sacked! We’re second, 6 points clear of Chelsea but it’s gone too far now, disgraceful from Ole for ESPN not to write an article about his style of play.

Please say this is a parody post. Reminds me of the criticism SAF used to get actually - that he is tactically a dinosaur and he is simply good at 'motivating' his players. I wouldn't mind if Ole similarly becomes the world's best manager by just bringing 'happiness' to squad! (Not that it will happen, but still less ridiculous than the post).

Let’s be honest. If you are Haaland, would you play under Ole or any other managers in other top clubs ? You guys are talking like Ole is Haaland missus ffs

Well, since you ask.
If I am Haaland, I would disqualify PSG, Chelsea and Man City for being made of slavery, corruption and/or petroleum.
I would disqualify Barcelona for their holier than thou "Mes que un club" bullshite and constant drama. Also they're virtually bankrupt, which is no bueno for stability.
I would probably also steer clear of Bayern, as I would want to ply my trade in a better league and not become an understudy to Lewandowski at this stage of my career. I also think I can fetch more money with literally all of the other options.

That leaves Manchester United and Real Madrid. And then I honestly think it's about 50/50. Again, if I am Haaland, I'm choosing Manchester United. The biggest club in my home country, managed by a man I trust and have learnt a lot from. A chance to be the biggest star, and bring the club back to where it belongs. Be the man to resurrect our domination of world football. Become a proper legend, not just another galactico.

How about you? If you are Haaland, what do you do, and what are your reasons?

If I’m Haaland I supported Man City when I was younger and as attractive as United look it’s currently managed by the worst coach I’ve had of my career to date. So I’m good.

Probably how Rooney felt at Moyes’s appointment as our manager.

Fair. One club had a player once who broke my dad's knee. I'll choose a club owned by people killing literally thousands of people every year instead.

I know this is just your usual trolling, but do you honestly think Haaland feels that way about Ole? Have you read his interviews both before, during and after his years at Molde? He literally chose Molde over all other Norwegian clubs at the time because of Ole. He's full of praise for what he learnt, how Ole managed him, and how Ole made him a better player.

These are direct quotes from Haaland himself:

How important is Solskjær for your development?
He's very important in all aspects. He's played in the Premier League and won the Champions League. You have to learn from the best, and I'm learning every day.

What are you learning?
How to become a proper striker.

What is the most important thing he has tought you?
How to score goals.

Source
I mean, he's learnt how to score goals. That much is obvious. So Ole can't really have been that bad for his development.

Yeah I was messing. But honestly the best interviews come from players that retire that’s when they tend to give you the juicy information.

That seems like a well media trained article. He’s hardly going to come here now and be looking forward to Ole teaching him how to score goals. He’s better than Ole was.

He was 17 at the time, and as untrained with the media as you and I. Have you seen his interviews at Dortmund years later? It's not until very recently he seems to have paid any attention during media class.

If there is one player who isn't media trained, it's Haaland. His interviews are so blunt and sort of disrespectful to the guy asking questions.

Saying that, Haaland's interview means nothing. He was young player at Molde, now he is a superstar almost every big club trying to sign him. So he will have plenty of options, Ole might be the player who helped him initially but dont think that would count for much now.

Great damn sub putting Pogba this early and subbing Rashford off. Won us the game.

And we managed the last few minutes exceptionally well. Didn't feel threatened at well.

Great great second half tactically wise.

Poor start to the game, but we did start the second half very well. At least he can get energy into the team which is a positive trait.

Our ability to break teams down need to improve overall, but I think if Bruno and Pogba both play we should be fine.

We look solid at defending now so I think Ole deserves credit for that. One reason can be Henderson as well helping the defenders more than De Gea.

Milan did absolutely nothing after our goal. Even in last minutes when they should be pressing they didn't manage to build an attack against our defense.

For one time I'm really fecking pleased by how we saw this game through.

He’d be a great manager in the 80’s. You only needed 13 players per match.
