I put this in the Haaland thread but probably better here.

If you have a budget of approx 80 million as mentioned above, I think you could have a great summer and completely turn the squad around.

Sell:
Martial - 40 million
Pogba - 60 million
DDG - 20 million

That gives you 200 million to play with, plus may 10million for Dalot another 10 for Jesse, 5 for Chong and 5 for Pereira gives 230 million

Sancho 70-75 million
Haaland 100 million
Rice 50-55 million

Henderson
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw

Rice Bruno McT

Sancho Haaland Rashford
With a back up:
Pereira
Williams Tuanzebe Bailly Telles

Matic Fred DvB

Amad Greenwood James
You'll still have Cavani, Jones, Mengi, Shoretire, Pellistri and Garner

Ben White is another option instead of Rice, as much as I'd hate to lose him from Brighton, he plays very comfortably as DM or CB in a two or a three, so could work as extra CB cover as well.

This probably an FM approach to things but what a trio that would be to sign!

I know we are just estimating here and we can't say for certain what the market will be like this summer, but I really hope we could get more than 20M for one of our keepers. How much have Chelsea paid for their two recent keeper purchases? Looks like Mendy was 26.40, and Kepa was 88M!

In my mind that all means we shouldn't sell either DDG or Henderson for less than 30M.

The Milan game got me thinking on something we could use:
A left-footed player that can take set pieces.

Telles was on set piece duty and I was not impressed. We have at least two good right footers in Bruno and Pogba and only one leftie in Shaw.

It's not something we should put on top of the list, but it would be a huge plus if one of our big buys this summer has a wand of a left foot.
Almost all of the midfielders and forwards we're looking at are right footed.

Lingard £15M
Mata £5M
Matic £5M
Pereira £5M
Dalot £10M
Henderson £25M
That's a bit optimistic, not the prices, mind, but if we're letting all of those go.

Mata is out of contract, so scrap him.

Henderson might be our new no 1 and I'm not sure we can sell De Gea for a similar amount. With his wages, I think the club will be happy to settle for closer to 15 million.

We need a backup RB, Williams makes me uncomfortable. That could be Dalot. Let's hope Laird steps up, but I wouldn't count on him just yet.

I can imagine Matic not wanting to leave and I think he's very useful in a position that's very difficult for a young academy player to fill when we get the inevitable injury crisis. We are gonna get hit hard next year with this congested season + the upcoming euros. I'd keep Matic, unless we buy a DM. He does okay, especially when we're playing compact defensively (which granted is almost never).

Worst case we're looking at (just) 35 million, barely enough to pay Raiola's signing fee on Haaland :(

Would like to believe there is some truth in that rumoured budget the other day provided that we could sell a couple of assets but our previous record suggests that we are unlikely to manage more than one big deal in a summer. Despite his lack of pace would still take Ramos on a free if we could do the unthinkable and sign Haaland, otherwise would prefer to go for Varane and get a proper RW instead.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

The problem is that DDG is on stupidly high wages. He's the highest paid player in England and the highest paid keeper in the world.

Our best case scenario is Henderson proves himself to be worthy of being our long-term keeper this season and United politely inform De Gea he no longer would be our no 1 going forward which hopefully would make De Gea much more amenable to move at reasonable wages ideally we get some transfer fees but even if we don't it shouldn't matter .

At worst he would definitely move on season after next if he doesn't play much next season assuming his additional year extension can only be triggered by us and not the player as well.

Yeah definitely feels like a noose around the neck of the club and makes it so impossible for us to move him on

Yeah thats a good point I failed to consider. Another damper on my enthusiasm is that Arsenal sold their back-up to Vila for a cut-rate price.

Anyone notice that with Henderson goal commanding the backline it suddenly looks like we need a CDM and an attacker a whole lot more than we need a CB?

Given the choice I'm going for a starting CDM and starting striker this summer

Please, no more squad players. Even if we sign only one or two, let it be someone with bottle and actual impact.

If Pogba stays we can only sign two players and have a fantastic window imo.

Starting CDM and a world class attacker and we have our best team since Ferguson left.

My picks would be Halaand and Rice.

Haaland alone would be something. Still torn between CDM and RW... Could be another rough window.

DM ahead of CB for me now. Watching Fred constantly give the ball away is going to cause me a hospital admission if it continues much longer.
Would be very surprised if the club switched towards a DM instead of a CB this summer

Would happily give Amad a proper chance at RW and try to find a CDM gem on the continent somewhere IF we could manage to pull off that miracle which is what it looks this summer

Would be madness not to imo. Get Rice and he'll help sure up everything back there.

Rice Pogba Bruno sounds very good imo
Totally agree but it will take something significantly positive happening with our current CB's that could change their mind

We should sell Donny and get both. And if you bring in Rice you can sell Axel/Bailly as he can be an emergency 5th choice CB.
I still hope we explore some cheaper options on the continent for a DM but you do make a very good point about Rice having that ability to play CB if it's required by the team

Surely then playing better than our midfield pivot of MCFred is that something no?

With Henderson in goal our CBs honestly seem way better. Atleast for now they do.

I'd be disappointed and I think we would regret ignoring CDM.

The McFred pivot is not good enough when your trying to Play with the ball

The thing with Haaland is he needs service and we don't provide enough, we need more creativity from midfield and wide.

Would say that this squad needs five players if Pogba stays and six if he leaves which knowing this board will take at least another three windows and quite frankly that's a disgrace

We need a manager who is a good tactician and plays attacking football.

There's not enough quality in this squad. Leicester won't be winning the league any time soon. How many of our players would get into the team they played United with tonight, nevermind when the likes of Barnes and Maddison are available. So many of our fans have mistaken price tags for being good. We've spent a lot on our squad and a lot of it has been spent terribly.

If those Leicester players were playing for us, they would be playing terribly as well.
Don't we see a pattern.
The club has no style, no ethos no nothing. Just get a bunch of players and a coach, wherever you get the coach from and play.

I'm pretty sure Ndidi and Tielemans would play levels above what our midfield did today. Matic, McTominay, Fred are all levels below what Leicester have and Leicester aint the only team you can say that about. The laughable thing is we spent £80m on two of that trio. £80m on players who you could argue aren't even as good a pair as Rice and Soucek. Jesus wept.

Every club, bar City, are skint. City should be skint technically, but that hasn’t stopped them before. We won‘t get Haaland or Sancho especially if they saw that crap tonight at Leicester. Ole has had his chance and if we don’t win the Muppet Cup, he’ll be gone. The players today were knackered and it showed. Leicester were all over the place at pace and the high press that we can never deal with. Still passing the ball across the area is criminal. Two weeks off to regroup.
