Maybe I'm mistaken, but I never got the impression that Milan were prestigious club before the late 80's, apart from some time under Nereo Rocco in the 60's. The arrival of Berlo and subsequently Arrigo Sacchi, and their golden generation is what led to the impression of a European great Milan in the minds of modern fans over the next 2 decades IMO.
So like Barcelona ? Or even United ?

Loved watching AC Milan in the lates 80s early 90s. Such a wealth of world class players

the actual Italian league I found a bit boring but there were some amazing individual players at other clubs too like baggio and Batigol

Been really impressed with them over the two games, ignore how bad we've been they press well, they're aggressive, they pass the ball well, you can see why Zlatan has been scoring for them

They're definitely on the right track. I think performance wise they should be pleased, but there's severe lack of quality and depth in their squad and they'll need few more signings before they assemble a team that can win something.

Their best lineup: donnarumma-calabria-kjaer-romagnoli-theo-bennacer-kessie-chalanoglu-sal...shoemaker-rebic-zlatan

On the pitch tonight: calabria, romagnoli, bennacer, rebic, zlatan only for 30 minutes or so, chala just got back from injury, theo just got back from injury...

They lack depth, yeah, but also it's the sheer number of injuries that's killing them. Not only the starters but even some of their best backups have been injured of late

Hope they get some players back soon. Would love to see them back in the CL.

Theo Hernandez looks very impressive. Kessie is also a decent player. But most of their other players who played against us wouldn’t start for a mid-table PL clubs, the likes of Kalulu, Saelemakers, Meite, Castillejo, Krunic. Clearly missed the likes of Romagnoli, Rebic and Bennacer badly.

One of my favourite teams from my childhood, whoever there coach is has them playing well, they just lack depth with the injuries they have.

They need a proper striker. As good as Zlatan is his lack of pace killed them.
He is still a threatening presence up front but deary me, he got caught offside ALOT. Felt like he spent the majority of the game offside.

He learned from his friend Pippo Inzaghi, the man who was born offside.

They have some player that I would sign:
Kjaer
Kessie
Cahlanoglu
No. No way we should be anywhere near Kjaer he's a liability. Fikayo Tomori is their good center back, he'd do well at United.

Cahlanoglu isn't up for it either by the way.

Kessie though, fantastic player. Would be ideal for our Midfield.

AC Milan need a sugar daddy to revive.
They already got one/or was it two? Past few years they've spent crazy amounts of money

2018-19 193mil €
2017-18 194mil €
2016-17 30mil €

Yeah was very impressed with Theo. If we didn't have Luke Shaw I'd want us to be all over him.

Collapsed a bit in the second half and never really felt they had the belief to go on and score but that's also because United got way better with Pogba's introduction. They pretty much bossed the first half though.

Have to say they moved the ball well at times but they just looked a bit light in attacking options. I hope they have a revival as it's kinda sad where they've been when this is a giant club we're talking about.

Theo isn't nearly as good of a defender as Shaw though, basically just another Alex Telles. The tactic the first half was exploiting the massive amount of space behind him with James and it nearly worked a few times around.

Honestly Rebic and Romagnoli have been heavily critiqued for their performances and rightly so and I don't think their involvement would've had an impact to the same extent as having a fit Ibrahimovic for both ties and Bennacer.

Well that's it, if he was 10 yrs younger we'd have been in trouble but there was no way old man Zlatan was going to get in behind and not be called off side.

I've never seen Telles drive with the ball the way Theo has. Making light work of James and Wan-Bissaka who are primarily defensive-minded when it comes to their key attributes is no easy task.

There was so much space in behind him though, had James been a better crosser or able to dribble we could've been devastating on that side.

He's still a good LB mind.

Not being snide, because I did rate Hernandez in this game, but does he normally play like that or was this a one-off as per Lindelöf who was also making runs? A case of exploiting tiredness, desperate get through to QFs, or/and an attempt to show his attack out of desire/frustration how to penetrate, etc.?

I think they've got a few too many non-descript players in forward areas but they seemed on the right path. I didn't think Saelemaekers, Diaz or Krunic offered anywhere near enough incisiveness and I don't think Calhanolgu added much tonight either. Zlatan is clearly the big threat, so they need a lot more than that.

They had an intensity to them I did not necessarily expect from an Italian team that isn't Juventus and for the most part they defended and passed the ball well. Definitely seemed well drilled by the manager because I got the sense they were primarily well organised rather than brimming with quality.

I thought Kessie was really good in the first leg especially, he seemed to have more time than anybody else on the pitch, we never seemed to get near him with our press which is the sign of a good player. Not sure if he's just a fairly ordinary player that had some especially good games against us or whether he's somehow been hiding his whole career.

That’s his game. He was Milan’s most dangerous offensive weapon for vast periods of last season. Some of his runs reminds me of 2010-11 Bale. His penetrating runs from deep is one of his key attributes.

He does and his goal/assist record is pretty strong too. It's just the only sample we have is Serie A and this game against us.

I think a scout would be looking at some of Hernandez's defensive work, that wasn't particularly fantastic tonight. James seemed to get an inordinate amount of opportunities to deliver something of note. It never materialised but not because Hernandez did a great job in shutting him down. The foul at the end was not very clever but understandable in the situation, but the way James seemed to constantly be at the byline delivering crosses and generally getting into pockets of space was notable.

His bursts were very good, though. Probably a very good player there but based on tonight I think that side of his game would take some examination.

Nice. Those Hernandez brothers are talented guys. I mean, not quite Neville level, but decent all the same.

I'm not sure I'd single out Theo for praise tonight. He runs 70 yards up the pitch and does feck all, defensively James had the beating of him all night long.
Kessie, Donnaruma, Tomori looked tidy.

Meite MOTM - thanks for the assist

was the same when he was here, he done fantastic but if the ball was not played exactly to him then basically you lost possession, alwasy felt he missed big chances in the big games when he was here as well.

It was a fairly poor performance by his standards, which is understandable given he's just come back from injury and wasn't 100%

To answer your question: he's milan's second best attacker after Ibra. I also have strong suspicions he might be the love child of a man and a fighter jet. How the man got the fighter jet pregnant i don't know, but theo's the result

They played above their normal level in both games, partly due to some of our naive tactics, but they're on the right track. It would be good to get both our names back to the top.

My Milan friends think Kessie is inconsistent but every time I see him play I think he's brilliant

well his age would dictate that anyway. He is still a smart striker so he'll still pick up goals. As soon as he came on he lined himself up against Lindelof knowing he had a better chance with him physically and in the air, in fact he won the first header they went for. The way he also peeled onto the back post v Shaw with that header he had, was good movement. But to play him his service needs to be top notch, which it wasn't. He looked sluggish, although he's just back from an injury.
