Few comments from a Forest forum after today's game
Getting him on a season long loan will be one of the best pieces of business we could do this summer. Quality player who I hope is here next season.
Has the Gerrard's about him in terms of style, thankfully he's not a scouser.
Premiership class today.

Best player on the pitch by some distance.
Very composed performance and rightly MOTM. Hope we can get him on another loan next year.
We need to resign him next year. If the powers that be at our club aren't hounding Man Utd to allow us to get him next year questions need asking.
I think Garner is good enough for a lower prem side loan, if that's on the table then forest don't stand a chance.

That’s amazing. Although I’m worried that Harry’s date of birth is in his username. So the “in my lifetime” claim is a little less impressive.
Might be his age, in which case it's very high praise.

The problem with loaning to prem sides is it's usually the poorer or relegation threatened sides, and they may just opt for a steady pair of hands rather than somebody developing and then game time could be limited. Even Hughton has come out saying there's a lot the lad needs to work on. 19 is very young for a premiership midfielder even in the worse sides, it's not like a winger where you can hide them out there. So unless we are convinced he'd play and a prem side makes a good case for him it's better going somewhere where he's a step ahead and they need him badly.

It might be that another championship loan is better, maybe Forest again, it would be good if they improved and he could stay there.

Didn't do Mount any harm being at Derby. I am inclined to agree about PL loans at his age.

It's pretty logical to keep him where he is if we opt for a loan. I would agree, we've seen teams and players make a transition from the Championship without much fuss so there is quality in the division. It's really team and player dependent.

It would be a massive risk taking him from a club where the manager values him, the fans value him, he has regular football, he is capable of playing well there even if it's not perfect every week.

It's hard to know what the other club's intentions are with loans, they're always going to sweet talk us into them being the right destination because for them it's risk free and they may get someone of quality. But they're very disposable for the other club so we have to protect ourselves and the player by doing our due diligence a little better I think. Albeit it is quite unpredictable. But it's nice to see that Garner and Laird seem to have fairly productive ones.

Dont't forget Mount also had a year at Vitesse in Holland.
Would also love James a year at a good club in Holland, as AZ or Vitesse or Herenveen or even PSV and Feyenoord. So much finesse in Dutch football with emphasis on ability rathen then strength

Didn't do Dean Henderson too much harm either. A season in the Championship, promotion and then a great season in the PL. I was glad we let him stay there.

I forgot he went there. Think it helps them mature as well.

Not sure how he got MOTM today to be honest didn't really see anything that screamed Premier League quality to me, he was fairly solid but that's about it.

Forrest have 8 games to ensure Championship status for next season, if they do the Garner should stay another season and get more experience. He seems to be at a club that will utilize him and give him plenty of game time

I am not sure he should stay at Forrest next season. If he is as good as described, i would either loan him out to a lower PL side (a bit risky), but at least to a side fighting promotion in the Championship next season or some good Eredivisie side. Midtable Championship would be a waste if he is already above that. Give him something more challenging if he really wants to have a serious crack at starting for United in 2 years.

People are far too paranoid about our loans, just because some haven't worked out in the past. If the player is good, he will do fine if we chose well. We can always recall him midseason and loan him out to another side, see Watford.

If he's really progressing and Brighton stay up I wouldn't mind seeing him on loan there next season under Potter, providing Bisouma moves.

Another Championship loan would be perfect for Garner. No need to rush, he’s 19, playing 46 games in the Championship next year would be far more beneficial than 10/15 in the PL

Strange, the Forest fans are raving about him and his performance..
I mean they have seen him more than me obviously and maybe I am a bit grumpy about letting the game slip again but for me he gets nowhere near United's midfield anytime soon.

I'd absolutely agree he needs to be in a more successful championship team that is pushing at the top of the league as doubt he is going to be the CDM for any struggling Premier League teams just yet.

They’ve already got Moises Caicedo in to replace Bissouma.

Agreed. I’d be fine with him to carry on under Chris Hughton who is a very good manager at that level. Garner needs a bit more experience and to get physically stronger.

Correct. Loan moves to shitty Premier League clubs seldom work out well. As you suggest, a manager hanging on for dear life would rather stick with somebody like James McCarthur or Jack Cork than bed in a United youngster throughout a relegation battle. There’s also less inclination to oversee that development when it’s obvious the player (if successful) will just waltz off back to United come the end of the season.

Clubs like Forest want to be promoted. Lads like Garner and, formerly, Mason Mount get so much more from a Championship title tilt than they do playing reserve for a team like Palace.

I’d trust Forest to compete next season with a manager like Hughton and some money in the transfer market. Keep him there, I say.

I can see it as well to be honest. Matic is bit part for us now, and I don't think Ole will want to dislodge McTominay and Fred as much as us fans would like.

Granted this is talking as if Pogba is staying. If he goes we'll need ready to go players. If not then there is only 1 spot up for grabs next to him most weeks.

I expect him to be part of our first team squad next season in place of Matic.
Awesome. He can join Tuanzebe and Williams in getting around 500 minutes of football within 9 months.

If we fast forward to the start of the 2022 season, we have Garner as our deep-lying playmaker, with Van de Beek and Mejbri fighting it out for the box to box role.
Then McTominay and Fred will fight for a starting spot too. Good CM options to have on the horizon.

It would be pointless loaning him back to them if they get relegated. He could possibly play a part for us, but it might be better to get him another loan at a higher team. Possibly a lower Premier League side?

Thats a different issue and/or debate, but wouldnt surprise me to see him in the first team squad.

I expect Matic to exit and VdB to get more minutes, with Garner stepping in periodically. If pogba leaves, i expect both to play more and dont expect any additions in CM. Not saying whether that's right or wrong, just what i expect to happen.

He needs to play as many games as possible and Championship is a decent league now with a lot of almost Premier league sides which can test him and a lot of sides which will be of a lower quality but still hard fighting men so he can build confidence. All in all a lot of games to play in and build his frame stamina and confidence. I think he might be ready for a squad role around 22, it's not easy to play in his position as early as now.

His composure is so good, when pressed he held the possession so well.

Looks like is high on confidence now, taking on players, spreading the play.

Great loan deal for him. Hopefully we make good decision this summer.

He's going to need a year to acclimatise to the first team, either its this year or hypothetically the season after next after a year with forest. Id rather we bring that forward a year.

Is it true he was a big Liverpool fan as a kid?
Who was your idol growing up? (Corey)

“I get asked this a lot of times. Because of where I grew up, all my family are Liverpool supporters, which is ironic considering I’m at Manchester United, so my idol was probably Steven Gerrard. I used to watch all the games with my Dad and he was the main player who I used to watch and I wanted to be like him. I used to wear the Predators, just like him, and I still do today.”
